AIBU to expect people to use less foul language on here. I’m put off by people using c , f.
Im not a prude and believe me there is many a time I’ve used the F word in conversations but wouldn’t dream of using it on here and never the c word.
Edited as deleted the asterisks - obviously doesn’t like them.

Sometimes though, it is the only word that will do.

but what about the public that voted for him ?

Giraffehaver · 17/03/2026 01:19

Studies have shown that intelligent people swear more so fuck off!

Every single poster who has gleefully said "off you go to Netmums, off you fuck!" is a bully.

There you go - I said it.

You lot revel in saying "fuck" and cunt" on here to intimidate posters who aren't comfortable with that language.

You belittle them into thinking they're not "cool" somehow by adopting the language of the in club on here.

How much more interesting it would have been to read an analysis of why middle-class women on Mumsnet seem to find the need to let it out by swearing in a "tinkly-laugh" kind of way, all knowing and asides etc

Instead, we just get page after page of posters trying to out-swear each other in what they think are creative ways, which instead reads like a long thread of people trying to ingratiate with each other.

YANBU @Lemondrizzle4A , it's tiresome and I actually agree with you.

I think this is a bit disturbing to be honest. You think someone cursing is a bully but NOT the person coming to the place where swearing is acceptable and complaining about everyone doing it? I also enjoyed the poster who pointed out what would happen to children in school. Um, yes, that’s part of growing up - you learn that it is inappropriate to swear in professional situations. If you think Mumsnet is a professional situation… I have bad news for you…

But yes, most of us grew up and reached a point where nothing^ makes us uncomfortable. And it’s interesting - I mean, no one is EVER going to go on Reddit or some male-oriented talk space and ask other males to stop swearing because it’s “uncomfortable” and “intimidating” (intimating??? Really?!? Uh, it’s a WORD, used by a stranger, with absolutely no effect on your life, so this is a weird take, in my opinion).

Are people who are “intimidated” by these words the same people who “shake and cry” when someone unexpectedly knocks on their front door? I bet there’s a Venn diagram showing a lot of overlap.

^ I mean words, but I obviously don’t include any racist, sexist, or homophobic terms in this assessment - of course those can be intimidating.

JohnTheRevelator · 17/03/2026 01:51

I agree. It fucking well pisses me right off. Fucking bastards, the lot of them!

JohnTheRevelator · 17/03/2026 02:00

Whenever I see a thread title with c*t or f*k in it I think oh no not another pompous twat.

@CactusSwoonedEnding How unpleasant. Cannot see how behaving like a man makes you free from anything. Certainly not men!

Unless it entails using one’s cock to type out the words letter-by-letter on a keyboard, swearing isn’t a men-only pursuit.

nomas · 17/03/2026 04:50

Im not a prude and believe me there is many a time I’ve used the F word in conversations but wouldn’t dream of using it on here and never the c word.

So you can swear but we can’t, @Lemondrizzle4A ?

Hypocrisy much.

Netmums is thataway —————->

So you’re fine with men swearing, but not women?

What does your husband get when he swears, a giggle and a pat on the head?

I haven’t read this gave I, it’s 2026 and women swearing is acting like men?

Do you also think the same about farting?

CactusSwoonedEnding · 17/03/2026 05:19

YourShyLion · 17/03/2026 00:44

Not unreasonable at all. Unfortunately it's indicitive of the type of people on this site.

You know there's no.obligation to be here, right? If you don't enjoy the company of women who don't feel obliged to behaveaccording to your restrictions you are allowed to go elsewhere.

Vivienne1000 · 17/03/2026 05:27

mazedasamarchhare · 17/03/2026 00:40

right given this some more thought. If you use database as a verb ‘to database an incident’ since database is now the action where are you going to database the incident? It’s a bit like saying ‘I’ll report the incident’ which is a meaningless statement if you don’t use a qualifier. So would you say ‘I’ll database the incident on the database?’ I mean that’s just gibberish.
Please make it make sense.

Exactly that
We get asked ‘ can you database that?’
literally everyone says it. Then we database onto CPoms, which is our private database platform.
Quite simple for us to get it. Same as ‘Can you book that in the book?’

Vivienne1000 · 17/03/2026 05:28

mazedasamarchhare · 16/03/2026 23:56

Well I’m not American, and therefore database acting as a verb can fuck right off!

I am as English as it comes.

Vivienne1000 · 17/03/2026 05:30

Llttledrummergirls · 17/03/2026 00:05

I'm British and database as a verb can fuck right off. It sounds ridiculous.

I am English and never swear in public. I have respect for myself.

CactusSwoonedEnding · 17/03/2026 05:31

FoxRedPuppy · 16/03/2026 21:51

CUNT is my favourite word.

It's not mine - just because I think it's fundamentally misogynistic that we culturally perceive calling someone a cunt as so much worse than calling them a dick or a cock - women's naked bodies and genitalia are not more shameful than men's. But nevertheless there is a definite scale of insult between saying "Reform are a bunch of dicks" or "Reform are a bunch of arseholes" or "Reform are a bunch of cunts" so sometimes only cunt will do, but I would rather this wasn't the case.

Rayqueen2026 · 17/03/2026 05:40

If that's the only way people can think of how to vent then there aren't many marbles in there.

What makes you think that a choice that a free person makes is the "only thing they can think of"? Someone might be able to percieve and choose 15 different options and if they choose the one you don't like, you have no power or relevance in the matter.

FoxRedPuppy · 17/03/2026 07:15

Reform lack the warmth and depth to be cunts 😁.

I appreciate the potential misogyny and I hate that is seen as the worst swear word. Which is partly why I use it with abandon! I just really like the way it sounds. It’s literally my favourite sounding word.

Im trying to bring it back as a term of affection.

Forthesteps · 17/03/2026 00:14

"The poison that has infected [her] soul"? Talk about overreaction! You sound ridiculous

Edited

You think it isn't poisonous to believe that women are inferior to men, cannot have freedoms that are reserved for men and should only be out in public if they remain quiet and don't take up too much physical or mental space? Personally that's an attitude that makes me feel physically sick, and I wouldn't want a person holding such views anywhere near my children, as that could cause far more damage than just hearing thr word Fuck.

You reckon?

Now I think that’s a demeaning cunty thing to say, by someone who doesn’t realise you’re not above me, because you choose not to swear?

MagpiePi · 17/03/2026 12:20

A well placed ‘fuck’ or ‘cunt’ can demonstrate eloquence and wit

…unlike incorrectly used homonyms which are now more common than not, and IMO, just make you look like a dunce.

Genuinely not bothered by people swearing and I fully understand that swearing is sometimes the ultimate way of showing the depth of feeling you have. My point is that some people seem to resort to swearing in their post almost every other word. I also absolutely abhor the C word. Perhaps that is an age thing.

I swear a lot. A fuck of a lot. There's no point in being a grown-up if you can't swear and get cabs.

But it has been pointed out to me that when I'm really upset, I swear much less. So, for me at least, it's not about showing depth of feeling.
