Whatever anyone thinks of handguns, 5 year olds died due to gun shot injuries and some respect should be shown by all MPs whatever side they represent

as he sat during the talk smirking

@Berriesandcucumbers1 "How many mass shootings do they have in America, if these people only had access to knives, far less people would die."

So you'd prefer that people were stabbed not shot ? 😮Really?

I'd prefer that they didn't get injured/killed at all.

Well obviously even would prefer no one was killed at all, are you being deliberately obtuse

you can kill a lot of people at once with a gun, from far away, so as a weapon they are far more dangerous than a knife. This isn’t rocket science

Biggermommabear · 14/03/2026 14:55

So yet another "Farage bashing thread". Yawn.😴

I could show you dozens of clips of MPs "behaving badly", I'm not sure what this thread is trying to prove.?

Nevertriedcaviar · 14/03/2026 14:49

Exactly this. Innocent children lost their lives, families were totally devastated, and somehow a ban on handguns is 'a knee jerk reaction?'

Who are these people who can think like this?

the people who support Farage think like this unfortunately.

I think he is an unpleasant person and a potential danger to UK if ppl vote for him.. I can promise you, if this country gets him as PM, the whole bloody place will come down quicker than a tower of cards. Come back to me on here in a few years if that happens so's I can say I told you so.

So, in their opinion it better they be stabbed rather than shot?
I'm not being obtuse, I'm using logic. You should try it sometime 🙄

I’m not sure if you’re being deliberately obtuse but saying far fewer people would die is clearly and obviously not the same as saying it’s better to be stabbed than shot. My Y5s could understand that 🤷‍♀️

Yep. He is a repulsive stain on the UK's political landscape. So damn right another thread bashing 🙄.

Given the damage he has caused the United Kingdom, there aren't nearly enough Farage bashing threads.

You can always post your own fangirl post, you know.

So you're OK with people dying but not the method?

Riiight .

So your Yr 5 knows about gun culture and knives do they? Hmmmm ?

What on earth is the purpose of hand guns? Why would anyone in this country need or expect one? Totally different to shot guns for shooting game, for example.

And hand guns in safe hands would very quickly end up in unsafe hands.

As do knives. but we need knives for various applications.

What we don't need are zombie knives - and these should be banned alongside handguns.

FYI, Farage Defenders, there is a mother on MN who lost her 5 year old at Dunblane. She posted this week.

Zombie knives have been banned

Deliberate goading now.

If you want to champion the piece of shit that is Farage, of course you can. Just accept that others regard him and his behaviour as utterly reprehensible.

Only a few enthusiasts made a fuss, they were very much in the minority. When the ban on semi automatic weapons came in, everyone really agreed it was a good idea.

My uncle used to shoot and had numerous semi automatic pistols, which he surrendered without complaint.

Same with my parents.
They were nice normal people that shot for a hobby and not because they had weird power fantasies about being able to take people down. Hence they were horrified by the tragedy and understood the need for new legislation.

Id obviously hope no-one got shot or stabbed but in the real world, there will always be some violent people, but I'd rather they didn't have access to more dangerous weapons. I think the point I was making was fairly obvious. I'm happy to live in a country you can't pop to a local grocery store and pick up an ak-47. Knives have normal uses and you can't ban every sharp object in reality but you can ban the sale of guns and grenades to the general public

Goes without saying.

But as the other poster said fewer would have died. More people can be killed, quicker with a gun. Plus there is a school of thought where guns somewhat detach a killer from their actions, whereas a knife is upclose and harder to do.

I would hate the UK to have lax gun laws.

It’s not trying to ‘prove’ anything. It’s a discussion, on a chat forum, about the public behaviour of a public figure. If you have any issues with the public behaviour of other public figures you are of course free to start a discussion about them, too.

Exactly what I was trying to say.
If I had to go against someone who had a knife or a gun, I would rather the person with a knife. That does not mean I would like to go get stabbed, it means I would be more likely to be able to defend my self, run or fight the person with a knife, the person with a gun, can shoot me from a distance and there would be little defence. I think 'biggermommabear' is just being deliberately goady trying to twist words to get a reaction

He's right that the ban on hand guns was a knee jerk reaction and excessive - just politicians gesturing, as they do. But what's done is done, we are where we are and I don't see any point in going back now. I think current gun laws in the UK are about right, although the firearms licencing is getting ever more stringent, and now a bit OTT.

Edited

He absolutely isn’t. There is ZERO need for anyone in this country to own a privately held hand gun. I’m amazed anyone on here can think this ban was excessive. I also think the term knee jerk is very patronising to all those involved in the Snowdrop campaign who are my heroes . No school shootings since tells you all you need to know.I don’t think that the criteria for firearms licences can ever be too stringent either. Farage is an absolute prick of the highest order and immensely disrespectful. Those parents are worth a billion of him.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion on any politician and any post.

You opened this can of worms by saying that your yr 5 child understood about gun and knife culture and the (not so subtle) differences between people getting stabbed or shot.
I wonder how he got that knowledge aged 9/11?

LakieLady · 14/03/2026 15:24

mumofoneAloneandwell · 14/03/2026 13:47

Isn't there a movement to ban pointy knives? That's a good idea.

There are sound reasons to own "pointy knives" though. I have a fine collection in the knife block in my kitchen, all regularly used for perfectly legal purposes.
There's already a ban on carrying them in public unless you have a legitimate reason though, eg a chef going from one place of work to another.

Handguns have very few legitimate uses in the UK if you're an ordinary civilian. Off the top of my head, I can only think of vets and people who compete in pistol shooting as a sport. Farmers might also have grounds to keep a handgun, I guess.

Gcol · 14/03/2026 15:25

He was smirking when Jess Phillips read the list of the 100+ women killed by men.

People don’t understand that Reform wants the guns and Equality laws to be revoked

Yet brainwashed people are voting for them

Agree with this
my DH has a shotgun license (rural worker)
the police check in regularly
he has to show them a secure gun cupboard with ammunition stored elsewhere.
Despite strict licensing and MH checks, he knows of farmers who have sadly taken their own life with their own guns. They are a rural necessity but agree that controls can’t be strict enough. I think it’s testament to good gun control that Dunblane hasn’t had a repeat in this country
