To think the Green Party and esp its Deputy Leader is a real worry for women

CraftyTaupeBee · 06/03/2026 18:37

Over the last few months I have watched with incredulity the rise of the Green Party in the polls and wondered if I am alone in this. Mothin Ali their Deputy publicly celebrated Oct 7th (which he then apologised for) and has been seen this week at an event mourning the death of the Ayatollah. I am not anti any religion but his wife is fully covered in a niqab and I feel despite what others say to have a woman's face fully covered is a tool of oppression and not something I would want in a leader as a value set. I realise others may not feel this way and it is not meant to be offensive but the facts are there. And recently a female spin doctor for the Greens alleged that rape had not taken place on Oct 7th. To me the Green Party is reminiscent of what happened in 1979 and something that ultimately affected women's rights drastically (as well as any other rights of the gay community and others). The soft left (much like the Greens) allowed the strict islamic vote to take hold and look where they ended up. This really worries me for the country. Am I the only one? And why does the Green Party seem to be so anti west and anti white. I realise Zack Polanksi is gay and jewish and they are strange bedfellows but it feels like a trojan horse mindset and not something I want for my western liberal feminist girls. In fact it feels anti feminist?

All the women( and men) in my family young and old will be voting green as we actually want a planet to live on.

Their policies don’t make sense though. Labour are pursuing net zero without the other nutty policies.
open borders would mean loads of our green spaces and woodland would have to be cut down to make way for all the housing we would need to build.
our country would become more and more urbanised, to accommodate the increased immigration.
this is just one example of a nonsense policy of theirs

This.

Reform as I see it threaten the rights and very existence of women and will do untold harm especially with any barriers to abortion.

The greens, well, I don’t agree fully with them on some issues but I feel if they think men can become women and are supportive of that they’ll be more likely to increase women’s rights as it’s what they believe anyone identifying as a woman has a right to.

What? That is so incoherent.....make it make sense

So you are happy with a 16 stone rugby player deciding he's a woman and trying to change in the ladies? Or want to join a female rugby club? That is not protecting women's rights, that's reducing them.

SapphOhNo · 11/03/2026 08:34

I'll vote as tactically as I can to keep Reform out. They scare me more than the Greens.

And you don’t care about the far more damming Reform erosion of women’s rights?🤣OKaaay!

Don’t make me laugh. The Greens don’t even know what a woman is and exclude anyone who tries to explain it to them!

The Greens are so stupid and lack awareness of foreign culture they can’t even understand those they’re defending on one hand would kill most of the others they’re defending!

The Greens who lack morals to such an extent they’re willing to subject to defend the actions of an anti woman, anti LGBTQ+ , anti democracy group,

Dont make me laugh, are you really suggesting them at the Greens are pro women when they are supporting groups who think they shouldn’t be allowed to mix with men, who think flogging a woman for being raped is ok? Who tell women to cover their bodies to not tempt men. How the hell are people thinking like this in this country in this day and age?

That’s quite a different scenario. Also my knickers don’t get in a twist about anything. My rational thoughts highlight that someone shouting ‘God is greater’ could be someone not to trust with big decisions

It's only a different scenario because you've grown up hearing people thank god and so it doesn't sound out of the ordinary to you. But allahu akbar is weird and scary and foreign and you've watched enough right-wing social media to now see it as sinister.

Can you explain what Reform policies are more damaging to women’s rights than not being able to accurately define what a woman is?

Yes hes a self hating jew, you should watch the interview of him when hes asked about zionism and his mother and sister its a real eye opener.
The greens have a real problem with women having rights unless they are transwomen ie men.
He wants fully open borders with no checks or safeguards.

In Iran the radical left helped bring in the ayatollahs and the first thing they did was kill all of the radical left. The greens really should learn the lessons of the past before they find themselves on the wrong side of history

There have always been pro zionists and anti Zionist’s in the Jewish community. Zionism is just one political ideology. It’s anti semitic (and a really bad faith debate tactic) to declare that Jews who aren’t pro Zionist are self hating. Jewish people should be allowed to decide whether or not to support the political project of Zionism without being subject to racism and abuse.

@moros. I’m sure you’re a lovely person and I respectfully disagree with you. I do not consume right wing social media.
I will continue voting for centre parties, and trying to protect our hard fought freedoms from religious zealots of all persuasions.

How the hell are people actually thinking Reform are fit to run anything in this day and age, ditto the Tories after the last 14 years. Are you just sticking your fingers in your ears and going la la as regards Trump which is basically Reform’s idea of heaven and model of choice.

Far more worried about Reform tbh

I’m sorry, but your post isn’t saying anything. It’s just parroting social media waffle which has no substance other than hate. Can you actually discuss policies and their consequences? Otherwise I suggest you comment on a thread asking about whether someone should wear white to a wedding or something- it might prove more useful

the80sweregreat · 11/03/2026 08:50

The Green Party ideas are nonsense and some seem to be made up on the back of an envelope. I can see why they appeal to a younger demographic, but open borders and more building and their ideas around women’s rights do seem to be skewed and not costed out.
I agree that the big corporations should pay more, but again , that won’t happen or the companies will move abroad. Taxing the rich is easy to say and harder to achieve ( again, they move away ) it’s only my opinion though.
I don’t like any of the main political parties much, politically homeless!

Greens that I know are hard working, pleasant and friendly people who do small things that make the local communities better. When a lot of people do a little bit each, a difference can be made. Positivity for the future spreads slowly to others. The world is in a desperate state - doing something for the Greens should surely be interpreted as a good thing in my opinion.

I think your views are somewhat out of date. The Green Party today is NOT what it was even three years ago!

Pacificsunshine · 11/03/2026 09:09

Moros · 11/03/2026 08:31

They're both exclamations used by people in times of excitement, fear and gratitude.

It's indicative of what kind of social media someone is consuming if they see allahu akbar as automatically sinister.

”Thank god for that” is more akin to someone muttering “inshallah”. Cultural idiom, not notable.

“Allahu Akbar!” is more like “Praise Jesus!” I don’t want any politicians ostentatiously saying either. It’s too personal, too parochial and too much.

MsGreying · 11/03/2026 09:10

Solocatmum · 06/03/2026 21:50

Our local Green Party people are good sorts who care about green issues.

But the national party is something else. It’s gone both trans activist and (oddly) Islamist in its attitude.

Given the bedfellows, i don’t think it has any female interests at heart.

But remaining part of the lunacy means the people at the top continue their nonsense.

If they're not actively arguing about the problems and seeking resolution they are part of the problem.
