The OP has until 20 March to cancel… at least she should wait until mid-March.

Otherwise it’s a bit like those people who cancel their afternoon plans in the morning because it’s raining, hours before having to leave, only for it to brighten up into a beautiful day!

If she’s uncomfortable Able and it’s gonna take up a lot of headspace as she watches the news every day whilst this situation escalates who are you to tell her to sit tight?

If she changes her least the likelihood is she will have lots of choice and be able to do some research into what she wants as an alternative holiday.

notabingthing · 01/03/2026 17:15

I have a question if anyone knows - would I be able to choose a different holiday for say the end of the year and obviously pay towards that one instead whatever the difference is ? Would they want another deposit or use the one I’ve already put down ? I’m guessing I’d lose that deposit now wouldn’t it ?

Don’t guess OP go and look at the T&Cs on your booking. Unless someone on here works for TUI we are unlikely to be able to factually help…….

I was referring to this comment:-

“The OP has until 20 March to cancel… at least she should wait until mid-March.”

why should she? And talking about what She SHOULD do in the third person rather than addressing the OP directly.

Anyway I don’t want to continue to derail the thread so.…….

You can change to any date any location yes. That is what I did as we were going early to Cyprus but knew turkey would not be hot enough so booked for months later

Which company have you booked with? Some companies allow you to change your holiday up to 28 days before departure.

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2026 22:57

Reports that there have now been explosions at the Cyprus military base and UK personnel told to take cover.

OP hang fire. You probably are going to be able to change your holiday with no cost as I suspect there will be updated travel advice very soon

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2026 22:58

Headline on Daily Mail on this btw.

Ridiculous

It’s really not, Cyprus has Western airbases, one of which has now been struck by an Iranian drone. My nephew in the RAF is posted in Akrotiri, it’s worrying times 😞

MyTrivia · 02/03/2026 06:38

Cyprus wasn’t an intended target. Yes it is worrying times. As ever, war pushed all the time by people who should know better. I mean, this is as bad as / worse than Iraq invasion.

It seems it happened after Starmer allowed the us to use our bases

I thought about you last night when I heard this! Hope you get things sorted!

A lot can happen in a short space of time. The government will advise if it’s unwise to travel to Cyprus - you can sign up to alerts about it.

You think they hit Cyprus by accident? Do you know how far from Iran, Cyprus is? And you think the Iranians fired a rocket over 1200 kilometers by accident and by some odd happenstance, it hit a military base?

FWIW it seems from recent news that what hit Akrotiri last night wasn't a missile fired from Iran, it was a (or several) shorter range drones, possibly fired from Lebanon.

Ihangthemoon · 02/03/2026 07:34

They are very much intentionally hitting these targets I agree.

Ihangthemoon · 02/03/2026 07:35

Lebanon is involving themselves too of course. It was expected. This is what people predicted.
