You think they hit Cyprus by accident? Do you know how far from Iran, Cyprus is? And you think the Iranians fired a rocket over 1200 kilometers by accident and by some odd happenstance, it hit a military base?

It hasn’t been confirmed yet where the drone came from and luckily, nobody was harmed.

It’s best not to assume anything at this point.

Iran bombed Cyprus last night. You need to look at Foreign Office advice and speak to your travel company.

Lebanon is involving themselves too of course. It was expected. This is what people predicted.

I'd be thinking of Hezzbolah as the origin, the Iranian proxy terrorist group still just about operating in part of Lebanon, rather than Lebanon as an entire country getting involved..

Yes Hezzbolah. Sorry should have been more specific.

They didn't bomb Cyprus. A drone was intercepted as it targeted a UK base in Cyprus that the US is using.

Either way, I'd definitely be nervous if I'd booked a holiday in Cyprus (as we were going to do!) But equally, until there's advice not to travel then OP will need to wait and see.

AFAIK the drone last night that hit RAF Akrotiri wasn't intercepted.

OTOH two ballistic missiles travelling in the direction of Cyprus earlier in the day were intercepted.

That would be because you are not due to go until May. No one knows the situation by then

Seems they've only cancelled up till Thursday so 3 days away

WhatsitWiggle · 02/03/2026 15:35

With the situation escalating, I'm going to change my earlier opinion! If I were travelling in the next two weeks, I'd amend to somewhere else. Anything further out, I'd adopt a wait and see.

Cyprus wasn’t an intended target. Yes it is worrying times. As ever, war pushed all the time by people who should know better. I mean, this is as bad as / worse than Iraq invasion.

The UK government have said it was intended to damage the runway, which would make perfect sense in the circumstances. Of course Cyprus is a potential target, and wouldn"t it be an evacuation point when the UK government inevitably starts evacuating people? Who would want to be caught up in all that on holiday?

l was reporting what was said at the time. Narratives about things like this change.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 02/03/2026 19:43

I believe Lufthansa also cancelled to Cyprus today, but Aegean Airlines are still flying. But the Cyprus authorities have cancelled an EU Ministerial meeting today/tomorrow and postponed a meeting of EU officials on Wednesday/Thursday this week. But meetings next week have not changed as yet.

MyTrivia · 02/03/2026 20:59

By May everything could be completely different but if it’s not, you’re likely to get your money back and go somewhere else.

StephensLass1977 · 02/03/2026 21:09

My childhood friend is due here (UK) from Greek Cyprus this week. She's still planning to come until she hears otherwise.

NewAgeNewMe · 03/03/2026 10:37

My family in Cyprus (I’m in English/greek Cypriot) are quite concerned, as not to far from Limassol where Akrotiri is. Friends in Nicosia also concerned. Worrying times in that region. If I didn’t have to go I probably wouldn’t.

Bunny2607 · 03/03/2026 13:59

Do people think the airlines will stop flying there? We are due to fly to Paphos on 25th March and i’m quite scared now and don’t want to go, but if we cancel we will lose all of the money. I have two young children so even more worrying.

gototogo · 03/03/2026 14:16

They are flying today. Assuming you are flying with a British airline, they will not fly you if it escalates but for now it’s fine, my friend flew an hour or so ago

SunWorshipper82 · 03/03/2026 14:18

We also have a holiday booked for Cyprus on 5th April - have been to Ayia Napa for the past two Easter hols. The recent attacks on the RAF base on the island and direct threats on Cyprus made by Iran given the strategic significance of the island have freaked me out and I have changed our holiday to Lanzarote instead - as it is 30+ days until we go (JUST making it within the window for amendments with Jet2), we have paid £50pp admin fee and any difference in the price of the holiday. As much as I love Cyprus, the situation is too unstable and I would not enjoy the holiday so I feel happier to change it. We have Cyprus holidays booked for October 2026 and April 2027 which we will keep for now, depending on what happens in the coming weeks and months.

It can escalate In a minute, that’s the problem being stuck there in a warzone

This is what worries me. I don’t feel i’d relax whilst there to be honest and if missiles started flying overhead I’d absolutely panic.

bittertwisted · 03/03/2026 15:16

I’m going to Thailand in 4 weeks with a one night layover in Dubai
not changing anything unless cancelled
then I will look at other routes
