You do realise that Iran have bombed multiple different countries in the last 48 hours?

And that Cyprus is one of those countries that has been fired on???

Hardly ridiculous when missiles can reach much further than that and Iran have just fired 2 in the direction of Cyprus. I'd personally be staying away from the whole region at the moment.

WhatsitWiggle · 01/03/2026 12:48

No. I travelled to Cyprus last year when it was kicking off and no flights to Tel Aviv. You could see the rockets over Israel, but in Cyprus it was life as usual. Apart from a lot of Israelis who couldn't get home.

Granted, the US wasn't involved that time but I would still base decisions on FCDO advice.

MrsImtheProbleM · 01/03/2026 12:54

2 missiles were indeed fired towards Cyprus I know 100 percent - what I want to know is why are the Cyprus government and Keir trying so hard to deny it ? What’s their game 🧐 any one got any theories …

But AFAIK Gov isn't denying two missiles were fired in the direction of Cyprus...

And TBH unless there's been a very recent announcement I've missed anyone claiming for certain at this stage that the missles were fired at a specific target or targets must have access to some very interesting sources who shouldn't be blabbing.

MrsImtheProbleM · 01/03/2026 13:28

It has been blabbed and of course to the media to this morning - and The Cypriot government have denied it "In relation to statements and publications referring to the launch of missiles in the direction of Cyprus, it is clarified that this is not the case” -
so they are saying they weren’t fired in that direction at all. Which just isn’t true and now the statements in quick succession - I just find it interesting. I’m sure they have a good reason though.

Any sympathy for the people in Iran? Or is it all good as long as you get your ☀️ ?

I get that people are naturally concerned about their flights and money but you seem a bit too blasé.

Any sympathy for the people in Israel and the Gulf states who are currently being bombed by Iran intentionally sending missiles to civilian targets?

DiscoBeat · 01/03/2026 14:03

I wouldn't be going anywhere near a US base.

It’s probably good good job you’re not in charge of anything…….

Ihangthemoon · 01/03/2026 14:15

I would absolutely not go to Cyprus now. It’s a very fast changing situation, but I understand your worry OP and think you are being sensible.

It would be helpful to post the link to the whole article as in the text of the image you posted specifically mentions flights to/from Israel and the Middle East are cancelled, not to/from the UK.

Charalam · 01/03/2026 15:02

I live in Cyprus and I’m 8 miles from Akrotiri RAF base and a similar distance from Episkopi Army Garrison.
I can say categorically that no missiles have hit here.

RedRiverShore6 · 01/03/2026 15:27

If it's a package could you change it to somewhere else, you mentioned Majorca

Yes we will most likely do this, don’t mind paying an admin charge.

Don’t cancel unless the FCO issues a do not travel statement. If they deem it safe then you’ll be fine.

The headline, like most click bait headlines, is misleading. The only flights cancelled are the ones to the affected regions in the Middle East.

Military bases in Cyprus have been hit.

Your analogies are wide off the mark.

I don’t see any credible (or even non-credible) news stating this.

FCDO website states……

Cyprus Regional risks
There is a heightened risk of regional tension. Escalation could lead to travel disruption and other unanticipated impacts.
British nationals should take sensible precautions, considering their own individual circumstances.

OP if you’re with a travel agency that will let you change to an alternative location then go ahead and do so. Nobody knows what will happen in the coming weeks and months…….

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/02/2026 16:28

It's the best part of 1200 miles from Cyprus to Tehran. Do you expect somebody to avoid travelling to Leicester from Newcastle because there's a volcano erupting outside Reykjavik or problems with rush hour traffic in Moscow?

It's about 240 to Israel (please try and use autocorrect if you aren't able to spell the country's name). Best cancel that Leicester visit if Plymouth Argyle are playing at home and getting a bit rowdy next week, too.

Pathetic post. It is completely different to be traveling to an area beween two Countries at war using misiles as their main agression than to another city in a peaceful Country. Nobody needs to be alarmist but this is just wrong.

Talk about pot and kettle… Flights from
Cyprus to Israel and certain Middle-East destinations have been cancelled… That applies to flights to/from EVERYWHERE to Israel and the ME. Please stop posting alarmist misinformation.

Thanks for this. We’re going with jet2 who’ve always been great in the past so I’m confident all will be okay to change location. We may even just go on a caravan holiday instead, need to have a think.

The OP has until 20 March to cancel… at least she should wait until mid-March.

Otherwise it’s a bit like those people who cancel their afternoon plans in the morning because it’s raining, hours before having to leave, only for it to brighten up into a beautiful day!

RedRiverShore6 · 01/03/2026 17:05

I suppose the sooner you change it, the more choice you will have especially if it is half term, depends really what the penalties are for changing, if not much then it will give you peace of mind. You should be looking forward to your holiday, not worrying about it.
