While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

They're mad. And basically Communists. And antisemitic.

Their leader is Jewish and they're antisemitic?

HappyFace2025 · 27/02/2026 09:37

Sa11yCinnamon · 27/02/2026 09:33

Oh god 🤦🏻‍♀️ I apologise!

No need to apologise! I should have been clearer but it made me smile on this grim Friday. 😀

The Green party candidates have clearly been taking too many of the drugs that they want to legalise. Ridiculous student politics. Free housing and open borders to any immigrant who wants to come in? Who’s paying for that? Where are all these houses coming from? I wish stupid people would stop becoming politicians. It’s a shame because I used to vote Greens occasionally if none of the others appealed.

Too late for what exactly? Struggling to parse exactly what you’re getting at.

Apparently the G&D by-election result is a portend of the UK hurtling toward becoming an Islamist Theocracy. 🤔

the80sweregreat · 27/02/2026 09:37

Amber dreams sums it up for me. I am politically homeless too.

I know, it’s the refusal to face reality, and read up on where this has already happened, that is baffling and depressing. It won’t be too long before we are too late to change the trajectory.

6% of the population is Muslim.

They are not a homogeneous blob, they don’t all follow the same rules, same beliefs, same politics. You have Muslims that support Reform.

Some Muslims have strong religious beliefs, some don’t, some are very secular.

I think we are some distance away from any sort of Islamic takeover.

FiveMetresUp · 27/02/2026 09:38

The Greens… aren’t they just about trans people and Muslims these days?

PhaedraWas · 27/02/2026 09:39

BlueJuniper94 · 27/02/2026 09:21

It's not really communism though is it

It is.

How exactly? Let me guess, because he spoke out against genocide.

My Grandma is a devout Jew and she also hates Zionism. I best go tell her she’s a ‘self hating Jew’.

narkyspirit · 27/02/2026 09:39

It should be a wake up call to the Labour Party, they would have most likely won that seat had Burnham stood.

Keir starter is clinging on by his finger nails currently to his 'leadership' I hope he is ousted sooner rather than later.

He's in favour of a policy that would make his own mother a criminal. The motion being that Zionism is racism. He's a self hating Jew.

Nobody has said that. But the fact that a vote (even if a protest one) means these populist parties gain seats in Parliament is a worrying trend that we saw in the last GE.

I'm relieved to see that some people appreciate that the Greens and Reform are two cheeks of the same arse. They represent less compromising versions of the current two party system.

I can't be the only left leaning person who feels utterly alienated by the state of what is supposed to be left wing politics. Its concerning that people who claim to be on the left can easily see how right wing populism could slide into something more sinister but assume that everyone on the left is benevolent and never power hungry or self serving.

Reform and the Greens represent the fringe ends of the mainstream political spectrum and at the moment the wide centre is occupied almost exclusively with neoliberals. Our options are to vote for borderline extremists or continue to watch the transfer of wealth to the billionaire class.

Dweetfidilove · 27/02/2026 09:41

BlueJuniper94 · 27/02/2026 09:34

Didn't think so. Shame. It would have done me good to be proven wrong.

WTH are you on about? You said nothing to be proven wrong or right.

The poster mentioned Britain becoming a militant Islamic regime under Green, which I find laughable.

You then @ me to ask which Islamist regime cares about minority rights. Well, given Britain is not about to become amd Islamic regime and I'm not here advocating for any regime of any kind; I'm under no obligation to educate you on anything.

And for that reason, I do not need to prove you wrong or right. I didn't even engage with anything you posted, so your wrong or right is exactly your prerogative- not mine!

I don't think you've been keeping up. Polanksi might be Jewish, doesn't stop the Greens being antisemitic.

The Greens are as dangerous as Reform.

ahem...

If you want to live under a militant Islamic regime, knock yourselves out and vote Green

DrMorbius · 27/02/2026 09:43

nomas · 27/02/2026 09:12

Seriously, this Islamophobia needs to stop.

This race baiting of Muslims as robots who only think of Gaza is idiotic and damaging.

This is true, but not all Muslims are the same. I worked in the Middle East for 20 years and they cannot believe what we are allowing in the UK. Hence the UAE no longer allowing students to attend UK universities. A serious state sanctioned action that seems largely ignored by the media.

Its true that not all Muslims think the same way. But there are certain groups largely non ME culture that think certain ways, Gaza etc. Ignoring this fact is why the UK is doomed. Stopping people discussing this is definitely a tactic.

Except I think it kind of does though… I don’t think the Nazis would have selected Polanski as leader somehow.

You can be Jewish and anti Zionist. Personally I don't understand how any Jewish person can be anti Zionist, more now than ever when anti semitism is more rife especially here in Britain where Jews are assimilated.
Jews need Israel. The events in Germany 100 years ago prove that. But I am digressing so back to the thread now.

Ohfuckrucksack · 27/02/2026 09:46

Political leaders can certainly lead a party that works against their own background, -many historical leaders come from wealthy families and worked for the benefit of the poor.

Polanski is populist so will pretzel to fit popular causes and issues.

Ohyeahitsme · 27/02/2026 09:46

It was a vote to keep reform out. And it worked, thank God.
