This country is doomed

While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

This is true, but not all Muslims are the same. I worked in the Middle East for 20 years and they cannot believe what we are allowing in the UK. Hence the UAE no longer allowing students to attend UK universities. A serious state sanctioned action that seems largely ignored by the media.

Its true that not all Muslims think the same way. But there are certain groups largely non ME culture that think certain ways, Gaza etc. Ignoring this fact is why the UK is doomed. Stopping people discussing this is definitely a tactic.

Yep.

He who doesn’t listen shall feel, as they say. I wonder how this will all play out.

HappyFace2025 · 27/02/2026 09:30

As many as five MPs in the last GE won their seats by their Gaza stance. Five. I have never heard of the MP for Harehills.

And yet - as an example - I can't imagine anyone winning a seat by standing on a platform and making their campaign all about standing up for persecuted Christians in a far off land. And that being more important to voters than the cost of living crisis or the dire state of the NHS.

nomas · 27/02/2026 09:12

Seriously, this Islamophobia needs to stop.

This race baiting of Muslims as robots who only think of Gaza is idiotic and damaging.

And you need to wake up @nomas and open you eyes to what’s going on

@HappyFace2025

Nobody has said that

ahem...

If you want to live under a militant Islamic regime, knock yourselves out and vote Green

Must have missed that post. I don't agree with it but perhaps I am being naive.
And there was no need for you to shout!

I have never read such a load of crap. Polanski is a self-hating Jew? WTF Did you run out of insults to throw at him or are you just living your life in a Daily Mail echo chamber. If you have a valid reason to dislike him, fair enough but that’s desperate.

Mangelwurzelfortea · 27/02/2026 09:49

Can this not turn into yet another thread where everyone gets accused of antisemitism?

Clubbiscuit · 27/02/2026 09:49

I’m from that area. Everyone I know (lefties) was prevaricating between Labour and Green up until the last minute to keep Reform out. It was all about Reform really. And I’m so, so glad that we kept Mr Eugenics out. It’s a good day for us here (and I’m in the LP).

BunfightBetty · 27/02/2026 09:49

Sartre · 27/02/2026 09:36

Yes, a classic antisemitic party with a Jewish leader.

You think that means they can't be anti-semitic?!

Open your eyes and ears.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 27/02/2026 09:50

I’m excited. We need change. Zack is honest and refreshing and not scared of debate. Breath of fresh air.

JonesTown · 27/02/2026 09:50

Interesting that so many on the left are dismissing these family voting allegations as unimportant.

Is it a good thing to move towards a position where women are instructed how to vote by their husbands?

Stick0rTwist · 27/02/2026 09:47

What is going on? Are Muslims taking over the country or did they eat your hamster?

randomchap · 27/02/2026 09:40

That's a very loaded phrase

I stand by my comment about Polanski.

That's because Islam is at a different stage in its evolution than Christianity. It's a younger religion. We were still fighting religious wars 500 years ago and if we'd been a democracy then (we weren't) then probably it would have helped win or lose some votes.

I'm old enough to remember the days during New Labour where everyone complained that all the parties were the same, everyone sitting just left or right of centre, and so what was the point of voting.
Now we have the opposite, radical differences between parties, and it's seen as the end of the UK!

BunfightBetty · 27/02/2026 09:53

FOJN · 27/02/2026 09:41

I'm relieved to see that some people appreciate that the Greens and Reform are two cheeks of the same arse. They represent less compromising versions of the current two party system.

I can't be the only left leaning person who feels utterly alienated by the state of what is supposed to be left wing politics. Its concerning that people who claim to be on the left can easily see how right wing populism could slide into something more sinister but assume that everyone on the left is benevolent and never power hungry or self serving.

Reform and the Greens represent the fringe ends of the mainstream political spectrum and at the moment the wide centre is occupied almost exclusively with neoliberals. Our options are to vote for borderline extremists or continue to watch the transfer of wealth to the billionaire class.

Spot on.

RoastBanana · 27/02/2026 09:53

Don’t be so silly. It’s good that ordinary people are waking up to the fact that the Labour Party, Reform & the Tories are all differently packaged wings of the same uni party - a uni party that has been bought by the super-rich and corporate interests.

Ordinary people want jobs, and apprenticeships, and a decent healthcare system, and decent schools, and pensions, and clean water, and free speech, and an end to corruption in politics. If we keep on voting for Labour, or Reform , or the Tories, all we will get is continuing impoverishment and exploitation. The super rich will carry on getting richer and richer, while our children face a dismal future of poverty and uncertainty, purposefully distracted by shallow culture war issues while their country burns.

There are certain Green policies with which I personally disagree strongly (amongst them women’s single sex spaces, and immigration). But notwithstanding this they are the last hope for our country to remain a actual sovereign country, led by real politicians who represent ordinary people, not their corporate masters - rather than a miserable, suffering failed state run for the benefit of faceless financial and corporate interests.

They do happen - they happen in my town - but it's been the Conservatives who've principally benefitted so the right wingers have stayed oddly quiet about it.

The British press and social media have done their damage... we are in for a hard time of it next election. The UK is going to hell in a handbasket.

glitterpaperchain · 27/02/2026 09:55

What a weird, patronising post to say voting green is just a protest vote

I know many people who are planning to vote green in full seriousness because they support the party and their policies

But radicals of any kind (green and reform) are by definition, radical. I don’t want a radical government. I want a kind of centre party that judges each issue on its merits rather than some stupid fucking unthinking party line.

From the Left's point of view, the 'wrong kind of Jew' is a Jewish person who is Zionist. Which, as far as I know, is the majority of British Jews.
