This country is doomed

While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

Do you think the results would be the same if Andy Burnham had been the Labour candidate?

He'd have won.

LoveItaly · 27/02/2026 09:24

If people took the time to read up on how Islamists gained power in Iran through left wing parties during the 1979 revolution, they may be a bit more concerned about this result. It seems to me that the Green Party is being used as a Trojan Horse, worrying times.

This. Copy, paste.

When people show you who they are, believe them.

They literally repeatedly tell us their plans and yet leftist idiots fall over themselves to disbelieve it. This country cannot be helped!

Minds so open their brains fell out.

Why?

Can you? If you can think of any, now would be a great time to educate me

LancashireButterPie · 27/02/2026 09:29

I'm actually disgusted with Starmer over this. He kept Andy Burnham out of the running to save his own arse as Burnham would have initiated a leadership challenge against him at some point.

He sacrificed Gorton and Denton.

I have a lot of concerns about the Greens policies, but actually legalising drugs isn't one of them. Drug pushers and gangs would be a thing of the past. When you could buy drugs at a shop (like with the arguably equally dangerous alcohol) at least you don't have county lines lads with knives on the streets. The drug barons would be gutted though.

DrMorbius · 27/02/2026 09:29

The Greens under Polanski are just vote chasing, snake oil salesmen. They are unashamedly trawling for any disenfranchised votes. If the next by-election was on Epstein Island, the Greens would chase the paedophile and child sex voters.
Producing a British election video, in a foreign language is obscene.

AmberDreams · 27/02/2026 09:29

The problem we have now is there are 2 groups of voters. The first vote on religious grounds and appear more concerned with issues that are nothing to do with the UK. Everyone else votes against the parties they don’t like rather than in favour of any specific party.

I’d love to see a party with candidates who I felt genuinely represented me and my view of the world but that pretty much never happens so I end up having to vote to keep out the worst alternative. It’s not a healthy state of affairs for any democracy.

Wordsmithery · 27/02/2026 08:36

I've voted Green for years and would be delighted if they were successful at the next election. Obviously a Reform win would be highly problematic though. What's your issue with the Green party exactly?

Their policies are beyond crazy, legalising all drugs,( or maybe decriminalization would be the better word to use), open borders, thinking men can become women, just to name a few.

HappyFace2025 · 27/02/2026 09:30

peanutbuttertoasty · 27/02/2026 09:26

It’s not the first time, it’s been happening for a while. See as an example the MP for Harehills who won in the GE.

As many as five MPs in the last GE won their seats by their Gaza stance. Five. I have never heard of the MP for Harehills.

I'm not here to educate you. Not on this blessed Friday, and certainly not when my post had nothing to do with what you're asking. Peace out ✌🏾.

I know, it’s the refusal to face reality, and read up on where this has already happened, that is baffling and depressing. It won’t be too long before we are too late to change the trajectory.

It’s been too late for many years.

So according to your post it’s tactical voting largely driven by ethnicity?

Nope … you don’t have to be an Ethnic Minority to vote against Racist rhetoric.

You are less likely to garner support, if you tell the voter that they are “lesser” due to the colour of their skin

Sadly I agree, was trying to be positive about it.

A set of policies deliberately designed to appeal to idealistic students with limited life experience in other words. I expect Green policies will be subject to a lot more scrutiny during a general election. I am much more worried about Reform.

I'm sorry, you can't do that. The Greens' policies are their policies. You don't get to rewrite them when faced with a few inconvenient truths. If a Labour Party supporter did that you would be, quite rightly, up in arms. As it is, the Greens are extremely dangerous and should be seen for what they are - radical populists and no less dangerous than Reform.

They're mad. And basically Communists. And antisemitic.

Sartre · 27/02/2026 09:35

No idea why everyone is so afraid of a multi party state, I think it’s exciting and important for democracy. It’s a sign people are looking for alternatives for once and thinking beyond what their parents voted for, and their parents before them. Historically those on the left would just vote Labour their whole lives through good and bad times and right wingers tories. I’m happy the tides are changing.

Sartre · 27/02/2026 09:36

Yes, a classic antisemitic party with a Jewish leader.
