This country is doomed

While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

Never read such utter nonsense OP. It's a by-election fought by an unpopular government.

The only reason you have to be worried is if you are a right-wing member of the Labour Party. That self-deluding sector of society apart, I can see no reason to think the country is "doomed".

Given that the Green party believe trans women are women and are led by a man who gives me the absolute creeps I'm surprised they get any votes at all.

But given lots of people marching for Gaza would be executed or imprisoned if they were actually in Gaza, it’s clear there’s a lot of very stupid people out there, lots of people seem happy to be turkeys voting for Christmas because they seem incapable of independent thought. The Green Party are clearly the most easily manipulated look at the Paul McKenna wannabe leader, he’ll do anything for power.

he’ll do anything for power.

Isn't that an entry level requirement for leadership of a serious political party?

I've voted Green for years and would be delighted if they were successful at the next election. Obviously a Reform win would be highly problematic though. What's your issue with the Green party exactly?

The fact that they’ve hounded out all their gender realist members and are currently in several court cases for illegal discrimination against their ex deputy among others.

Wellthisisdifficult · 27/02/2026 09:07

This is very concerning and needs to be investigated and then maybe a re run

We need the laugh emoji back precisely because all tripe like this deserves is derision and mockery.

Yes, Vote Green to live in an Islamist Theocracy led by an openly gay Jewish man.

Doomed because Tommy Robinson's preferred candidate didn't win?

Not at all. The Greens and Reform are populist parties and two sides of the same coin.

I would like to see Corbyn in the running again. He is officially the leader of Your Party now. The hatchet job done on him by the press has proven to be exactly what it was, so time to move on and vote for a leader with the majority of the population in mind.

It’s bollocks. The returning officer has dismissed it. You can’t rerun elections just because you don’t like the result.

EasternStandard · 27/02/2026 09:09

Labour are just not liked. Labour supporters and Starmer might be worried but don’t overdo that. It’s just self preservation from them.

I expect Green policies will be subject to a lot more scrutiny during a general election

I would be concerned about some voters critical thinking skills as they often get their understanding from short clips on SM. I have had this discussion with Uni students and unless they are studying politics they tend to prefer sound bites. On that basis the Green appears appealing.

Swiftie1878 · 27/02/2026 09:10

Having to vote for a lunatic party to avoid having to vote for a different lunatic party, to lodge a protest vote against the country’s ruling party clearly shows we are in deep, deep trouble in this country.

randomchap · 27/02/2026 09:10

All countries are doomed.

Short to medium term

Environmental breakdown including soil degradation, loss of habitat, climate change, and pollution means that food will become scarce.

Resources such as oil and gas are rapidly being depleted

Population growth is unsustainable globally

AI will destabilise countries as bad actors will generate AI videos that are indistinguishable from reality in order to push their political aims

AI will destroy jobs

Happy Friday everyone

Boxthree · 27/02/2026 09:11

It's really interesting. Whilst most of the country has moved right, the Greens have succeeded by going very very left.

I'd like to think it's a protest against the Right Wing movement as much as against the government.

MaturingCheeseball · 27/02/2026 08:36

I must admit I am depressed. Have people not looked at the Greens’ policies?

And the win yesterday - it was on Gaza. I can’t imagine any Muslim voter being in favour of any Green policy except one.

It’s all bizarre.

Seriously, this Islamophobia needs to stop.

This race baiting of Muslims as robots who only think of Gaza is idiotic and damaging.

They don’t believe it. Nobody does. They just want to diminish actual women and this is the perfect ‘hate in plain sight’ way to do it.

MaturingCheeseball · 27/02/2026 09:13

In Iran the progressives (including many activist women) teamed up with the fundamentalists to topple the Shah. And then look what happened…

The Greens are useful idiots.

It's absolutely hilarious how terrified the gammons are of a young working class woman and a vaguely progressive party.

If you feel threatened by the Greens, consider that maybe it's you with the issue and not them..?

I wish we could move beyond "right" and "left" as they are no longer fit for any real analytical purpose and damage our ability to seek consensus and work together

Ablondiebutagoody · 27/02/2026 08:57

It shows that people are desperate. The Labour/Conservative duopoly have shafted us. Working and making an honest living no longer buys you a decent lifestyle because they confiscate it all in tax to fund God knows what.

They confiscate it all in tax to pay the bill on the interest on the loans they took out to do the things that bought the votes in the previous 30 years elections.

MaturingCheeseball · 27/02/2026 09:16

But the woman is a “gammon”, right? Do you think she would have won if Gaza had not been front and centre of her campaign?
