While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

Who’s going to buy a tax liability?

Who will invest in a country where their home is a tax liability and impossible to sell?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/02/2026 21:07

Pretty words.

How do you manage migration without a Home office, and with every single financial and political incentive for everybody and their cousin to come here, get the right to vote, benefits and housing?

You missed the 'managed immigration' part when you posted it didn't you?

Livelovebehappy · 27/02/2026 21:12

notmuchtoit · 27/02/2026 21:10

This country is fucked because I watched a news item about children being homeless and sleeping on the streets. Children ffs.

So the billionaires and their luxury flats and tax dodges can get fucked.

And why do you think more people than ever are sleeping on our streets? Because too many people live here already. It’s not rocket science.

Allegations with zero proof. No reports to the police. No reports to the returning officer. No corroboration, in fact denial, from the polling clerks. It’s amazing what the gullible will swallow whole.

Of course it is.

Because their understanding of economics and and politics peaked when they blue tacked their Che Guevara poster to the wall of their childhood bedroom in their mum's home.

Just having taxes as they were at the height of Thatcherism- say 1987- would make a massive difference. Nobody said she was a communist, yet there was a top rate of 60% for income tax and corporation tax was 10% higher than it is now

And you seem to be missing the part that the words "managed immigration" mean shit when the policies are the way they are.

Leftieinthewild · 27/02/2026 21:15

This thread is gold.
Left of centre wins a solitary seat, meaning absolutely no difference is made to parliament, and the facists lose their minds.

Despite all the campaigning, the far right party, full of failed tories failed because Britain is not a fascist country.

Can't possibly be that though- it must be allowed those mean Muslim men forcing their wives to vote for the gay jew party instead. Hmm Wtaf.

Yes and there are taxes on that sale and then we tax whoever buys it!!! I'm going mad reading this thread of people acting as if they know it all when they're talking nonsense I'm off to bang my head against a wall

We all know there are taxes on buying and CGT in some cases. That is peanuts in the grand scheme of taxing billionaires!
Hope your head doesn't hurt too much from banging it against a brick wall.

No, it's because greedy fucking landlords charge extortionate rents and there's very little affordable housing. Since the Torys sold it all off.

Please don't call people nutters. It's a horrible nasty mental health slur and it's completely unnecessary. Just don't. The forced voting has been completely de bunked

I'm pro Palestine. I'm not a nutter. I used to visit asylum seekers in Dungavel and one friend from Palestine was so terrified of being sent back he fled to Ireland and we never saw him again

But the main reason I hate people being called nutters is that I had a relative with schizophrenia who took their own life

You can say what you like about people who don't have the same views as you - but the minute you start saying all Green voters are nutters - you lose the point you were trying to make

That's rubbish. I worked in homeless units in 1995 - and street sleeping was actually almost eradicated in the UK -until UC came in. Also - please don't bother calling people who are pro Palestine Zionists if that's your next comment . You can support Palestine without being anti Jewish

Hannah Spencer is I believe a property flipper and buy-to-letter. Thoughts?

It's fine to have Billionaires as long as everyone else is doing okay, because without the 'little poor people' they wouldn't be billionaires. It's only right they pay their dues. Like that's going to happen though.

My point was that that they don't want open borders.

Their policies need a lot of scrutinising and might well be pie in the sky but they don't say open borders.

Livelovebehappy · 27/02/2026 21:20

I honestly had faith that the majority of the UK would shy away from Zak Polanski. Because he shows us who he is. He really is mad as a box of frogs, and doesn’t hide it. But allegations of cheating in the by election in Manchester need to be robustly investigated. Why does a certain demographic think the rules of law don’t apply to them? Making us an extension of the Middle East and open borders is not going to help this country. Our infrastructure is collapsing in plain sight, yet people think it’s a good idea to fling open our doors to invite others to climb on to this sinking ship.

Don’t be shy. If you are going to make the claim you should name the ‘certain demographic’ rather than hiding behind euphemisms.

Or are you worried you may be deleted for racism for such a sweeping generalisation?

And you’ve just proved my point. Population in 1995 = 58 million. Population in 2026 = 70 million. And yes, support Palestine all you want, but stop trying to make the UK an extension of the Middle East. Let them sort out their own problems, which go far deeper than what’s been happening in Gaza and Israel. Stop making the Middle East’s problems our problems. Most of us don’t want it.

Not at all. It’s all over the newsfeeds detailing who exactly have been voting for the Greens. It’s no secret.

notmuchtoit · 27/02/2026 21:30

I'd have voted for Greens.

notmuchtoit · 27/02/2026 21:31

Read their policies, maybe it is in there.

You were wrong on open borders, that is what I am trying to explain
