While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

As I posted governments don't rely on taxation. If they did they would be voted out of office. That is why they have to borrow money. Crazy I know.
As of end of 2025 we were in hock to over
£11 Billion but fortunately it was a decrease in previously. Google a BBC report if you don't believe me.

Governments do rely on taxation, ffs. Where do you think the money for all the repayment and interest on borrowing comes from?

Do you understand 'open borders'?

Managed migration it is not.

Managed how?

By abolishing the Home Office?

You could have clicked on the link upthread and found this but let me encourage your laziness.

We would start by ending the right-to-buy scam. We would also end the financial incentives and tax-breaks that were set up to encourage private landlords. We would end buy-to-let mortgages and bring back rent controls to stop landlords exploiting renters. We would introduce a land value tax to shift tax from tenants to landlords; increase taxes on empty properties to incentivise bringing them back into use; and introduce national insurance on rental income so landlords pay the same tax on their earnings as everyone else.

When it comes to housing supply, instead of just building more and more houses, the sensible thing is to start by making better use of the properties we already have. A Green Government would finance the purchase of empty properties; properties being sold by landlords; and those properties that aren’t being maintained properly by landlords. All of this would increase the supply of healthy, affordable homes without having to build so many more.

When we do build new housing, the Green Party wouldn’t follow the Labour and Conservative model of just letting private developers do whatever they want. We don’t want more of the luxury investment properties that make the biggest profits for developers. We should be building the types of properties we really need in the places where they are really needed. We would not only tighten up planning regulations, we would also create a Government run national housebuilding programme. Brick-By-Brick is a perfect example of what can go wrong when individual Councils try to build properties themselves, so we will bring in a properly regulated, innovative, and trustworthy Government building company that Councils can then apply to.

😂 lunatics.

There is a limit to how much a government can tax its constituents! There would be riots if they taxed enough to pay back all their borrowings.

Help families be together?

Give every resident the right to vote?

Abolish No Recourse to Public Funding?

Open Borders here we come!

That’s why tax income has to be high enough to pay the interest and decrease the debt.

But it isn't enough!! And won't ever be unless public spending is cut to smithereens.

Your c&p doesn't specify that.

But other departments can manage immigration as they did before 2013.

Implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration

That’s why George Osborne’s master plan failed - he slashed and burned public services and still the debt went up. That’s why more tax is needed from the most wealthy.

WaryCrow · 27/02/2026 20:55

It’s such a shame, I’ve got ‘Green Alternatives to Globalism’ by Caroline Lucas and Michael Woodin on my shelves. They used to think once. Open borders would have been a horror for the old greens, and the attitude that biological women with a brain should just fuck off quietly please would have been beyond abhorrent.

Sadly many institutions have been turned into their own anathema. We badly need an ecological organisation but the ‘Greens’ mock us all with their continuation of that name.

Well, it says "Dismantle the Home Office", so I'll say that's pretty much the same thing.

Absolutely. It doesn't work to do it even though it should make sense to do so. But there aren't enough billionaires here to cover the taxes needed. They are leaving the Titanic before it sinks.

Edited

They can leave. Their assets are still here to be taxed, they can’t take luxury flats with them.

Yes and there are taxes on that sale and then we tax whoever buys it!!! I'm going mad reading this thread of people acting as if they know it all when they're talking nonsense I'm off to bang my head against a wall

Fuck the luxury flats. Your thinking is so small if that's all you can think of.

They can take their investments and and their business and let us with soaring unemployment rates.

Pretty words.

How do you manage migration without a Home office, and with every single financial and political incentive for everybody and their cousin to come here, get the right to vote, benefits and housing?

If they stay and pay great. If they don’t, this. What are the odds? Which is more likely.

notmuchtoit · 27/02/2026 21:10

This country is fucked because I watched a news item about children being homeless and sleeping on the streets. Children ffs.

So the billionaires and their luxury flats and tax dodges can get fucked.
