While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

If that’s true (I actually doubt it) a choice between losing their right to buy discounts and being kicked out of the country is a bit of a no brainer.

The Right to Buy scheme is popular among many British Muslims as it enables homeownership. but it requires using Sharia-compliant, interest-free financing rather than traditional mortgages to remain compliant with Islamic law. Popular options include Diminishing Musharaka (partnership) or Ijara (leasing) Says Apercu

No I don't buy it. Someone said they think the green policy of abolishing private landlords is a good idea and you respond with 'well actually some people need to rent'

Did you seriously think the Greens haven't thought of that? You responded showing your complete ignorance of their actual policy (which is very quick to google) because you don't care. Don't speak against things if you're not even going to bother to find out what it is you're speaking against

We bring it back into circulation by taxing it. That's what taxes are.

Taxing the population to the nth degree won't win them enough voters.

Yes, but what I am saying is why do you even have to do that? Thats just something we invented to deal with something else we invented. You want to think radical then think radical.

It’s like if someone has 10 hats, I have one. Someone steals mine. I say well you have 10. I have none now so I want yours. I could steal their hat. They dont use that hat. But it does sit on a shelf sentimentaly and they like that hat. Or I could just avoid that whole palaver and knit a new one. Modern money is not finite. It’s literally a number on a computer screen.

Regardless of the mechanism… what would actually happen if we did do that? Just took or printed 800 billion. On a national level thats just a drop in the ocean so would it actually make a difference? Not much but I hope it would do some good if we invested/spent it right.

If on an individual level we redistribute it.. that would c. 13k each. That could also work out great. I think it’s enough but not too much. Or it could all go tits up and be inflated away in 5 seconds anyway.

So really the question I am asking is how much money is too much to take or magic out of thin air. Thats the question that needs to be answered first and foremost.

Then once you know the answer just do it. Print it and distribute it.

But they have not said how they will finance that.

Open borders will mean a shitload of housing will be needed.

I've said this so many times on this thread

open borders is NOT a green policy

Has anyone anti green on this thread ACTUALLY READ their policies?

We're talking about taxing billionaires!

BIossomtoes · 27/02/2026 20:31

We would introduce a land value tax to shift tax from tenants to landlords; increase taxes on empty properties to incentivise bringing them back into use; and introduce national insurance on rental income so landlords pay the same tax on their earnings as everyone else.

There’s also the proposed wealth tax. Open borders are a pipe dream.

I thought she meant house plus pension? Even a few Labour supporters probably have that.

She definitely said pension pot.

even so, ignore trying to make it party political £13,500 when you are sat on a million, let me get my tiny violin and sib for the entitled hardship.

the biggest problem is wealth disparity in this country. Having a million quid and crying about 13500!is just wrong and immoral.

and then to demonise vulnerable people so you can horde your filthy lucre speaks spades about values.

It wouldn’t even be £13.5k because the first £1 million doesn’t count. It would be £3.5k.

Their policies need to be paid for and all you Green supporters can come up with is tax, and more tax. That is not a vote winner.
In the meantime this country is billions of £ in the red thanks to prolific borrowing by successive governments, that needs to be paid back. At this rate we'll be going cap in hand to the IMF as we had to do in the 1970s
Meanwhile you Greens just carry on carrying on. That's the last I'll say tonight.

How many billionaires do you think live in the UK? Last count was 156 and decreasing. By the time we get to the next GE there will be even fewer! So no, don't expect the coffers to be rolling with £ from billionaires!

Migration Policy
Our updated migration policy complements the rewritten Refugee and Asylum policy and details how migrants who are not refugees or asylum-seekers are to be treated.
The current hostile environment is designed to ensure migrants are discouraged from staying in the UK. After years of repeated applications and large fees, many who do finally reach settled or citizenship status will have developed an understandable distrust and dislike of the Home Office.
Instead we propose a fair and humane alternative which treats all new migrants as potential citizens and ensures that they feel at home here.
The Green Party in government will:
Implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration
Treat all migrants as if they are citizens
Give all residents the right to vote
Help families to be together
Dismantle the Home Office
Abolish the No Recourse to Public Funds condition
Abolish the ten year route to settlement
Stop the profiteering from application fees
Stop putting people in prison because of their immigration status
Accept our responsibility for the climate emergency and support the people forced to move

Yeah....

BIossomtoes · 27/02/2026 20:36

Taxing the most wealthy is absolutely a vote winner among the demographic flocking to join the Green Party.

How else do you think governments raise money??

Plus i already said a long time ago upthread that I like their policy about redistributing public money so more is given to local councils, as this is a more effective way to spend money as they have a better knowledge of what their local area needs. So getting more bang for your buck, a better outcome from the same amount of money.

But the problem with you non-green supporters (to use your same rude language) is that you don't actually know what you're arguing against because you haven't bothered to actually read any of green's policies!

Because their understanding of economics and and politics peaked when they blue tacked their Che Guevara poster to the wall of their childhood bedroom in their mum's home.

Are billionaires going to save us all? We can live the high life and they’ll stay and pay. If they do it’s better than a jobs tax. If they don’t good luck to everyone left pretty much.

'MG100. The Green Party wants to see a world without borders, until this happens the Green Party will implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration where people can move if they wish to do so.'

This states a world without borders is their ideology. But their actual practical policy is managed immigration.

As I posted governments don't rely on taxation. If they did they would be voted out of office. That is why they have to borrow money. Crazy I know.
As of end of 2025 we were in hock to over
£11 Billion but fortunately it was a decrease in previously. Google a BBC report if you don't believe me.
