While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

I've voted Green for years and would be delighted if they were successful at the next election. Obviously a Reform win would be highly problematic though. What's your issue with the Green party exactly?

Where to start? 🤔

Psychosislotus · 27/02/2026 18:14

I dont get what you mean by that.

To me they are the same - like PP two sides of the same coin. Both utterly insane.

How is the greens got anything to do with the left?

'How is the Greens got anything to do with the left?'

Sorry? Are you asking what left wing politics is? And also saying the greens are insane?

David Peckham, I so agree with your post!
The Greens have elected a leader who resonates with the younger voters by being personable ( Hannah Spencer seems like this too)
If it’s real or not , I don’t know , but it seems to have worked. I don’t agree with their policies, but for some politicians to have the gift of appearing to be your friend seems to work. For all his many faults , Boris Johnson had that gift ( as does Andy burnham)
Unfortunately it’s passed Sir Keir starmer by!

I agree with you too. Looking at the social media Labour are so bad at it they are just ridiculed.

Are you having trouble thinking of something?

glitterpaperchain · 27/02/2026 17:57

The fact that you think the Greens are extremist shows that the left has been absolutely destroyed, Labour is just centrist now

The demonisation of the left has been happening for decades. Remember when Ed Miliband, about as milquetoast a moderate-left social democrat as you could imagine, was labelled RED ED by the tabloids? Laughable. They should have interviewed his mother to find out what being proper left was about.

Calling current Labour centrist would be generous indeed given their flirtations with (and sometimes embrace of) far-right rhetoric.

I have hardly posted in the last month, but if I am commenting it’s because of the laughable things you are writing that stick out like a sore thumb among other posts.

What sticks out though? Name one thing.

Yes as real as you.

Look at the SM feeds and comments. Labour get destroyed on there. Greens are liked, and Kemi.

Yes was asking what left is to you.

PP and I are obviously recognising something in reform and greens which we dont like - I am going to assume populist extremism, authoritarianism, absolutism. I think they both sound quite dangerous.

PP was trying to talk about that and all it came back with was a comment about left and centre. So I was asking what parts of green make that a leftist party to you. I am not trying to argue with you. It’s subjective anyway so there is no right or wrong. I was just interested.

If you read Hannah Spencer’s acceptance speech all will become clear.

The Greens are basically Communists. The Scottish Greens are even more hard left.

Yes I have listened to it. That’s really not far off what Nigel says with the underlying message ‘work doesn’t pay’

It’s a million miles from Farage. Wealth tax, more housing, improved public services, cohesive communities. It couldn’t be more different.

I haven't heard it yet.
Did she mention legalising all drugs, self ID, and declaring zionism racist? Or is the extreme stuff being saved for another day?

The Scottish Greens are pushing for a wealth tax on everyone who has assets over £1 million. That sum includes pension pots and houses. I have roughly £1.35m so they want £13,500 per annum on top of the roughly £48,000 income tax I'm already paying. As I'm Scotland my headline rate of tax is 67.5 %.

What incentive is there to build up a pension pot if it is going to be attacked like that? Or to even try to earn a wage that puts you in the higher bands.

I was saying that it shows how centrist labour has become, that by comparison the Greens look extreme left. Because if you actually look at their policies, like rent controls, building more social housing, renationalising water, investing in SEND education and support services...it's all pretty typical left stuff

The Scottish Greens are very slightly left of centre - as are the SNP. Nothing like the communist party.

The England and Wales Green Party wants a wealth tax of 1% for assets over £10 million and 2% for billionaires. I think it’s entirely reasonable.

Have you ever lived under a communist regime?

It might be typical left stuff in one sense, but the UK hasn't had a fully left wing govt since pre Thatcher the 1970s, so it would be quite a radical departure in many ways.

You choose to ignore the Scottish Greens policy - Do you think it's "entirely reasonable" they should help themselves to roughly £13,500 per annum out of my pension pot until it drops below £1 million?

The Scottish Greens are way to the left of the SNP. Did you miss the bit about the wealth tax on assets over £1 million? And they include pension pots in that.

I don’t live in Scotland so it’s a matter of indifference to me what parties north of the border choose to do. In any event it’s a tax on assets over £1 million, so £3.5k in your particular case.
