While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

It makes me cringe when people say, “Hannah” as if they know her. As if she’s their friend. As if she’s the popular girl they want to hang out with.

Presumably you feel the same about all the posts about Kemi, Ange and Rachel from Accounts?

alright let’s just get a Trump in? I’m sure that will help the country. knock it off will you. Reformat a hateful divisive party

Psychosislotus · 27/02/2026 17:33

Well it is quite concerning. The greens are fucking crazy. And so are reform.

So…. 🫣

WHERE ARE THE NORMAL PEOPLE

JustSawJohnny · 27/02/2026 17:23

I genuinely think this is a societal issue.

It's too much of a sweeping generalisation to make the claim that 'young people don't want to get their hands dirty' - something that was said to me this week by a garage owner who can't find mechanics or trainees - and that all they want is to be influencers or famous BUT there is a down trend in young people going into trades .

They are also shunning roles in which they are expected to work long hours for trial periods or low wages and when in work they are sticking to working hours and taking days off for reasons such as 'mental health days'.

The question is - are they right? Is it actually OK that older generations have run themselves into the ground and suffered mentally due to the stresses of the workplace? Have we had the balance wrong and they have a point?

I'm honestly torn on this one.

Either way, what we know for sure is that Farage is an absolute boot licker for big business and OBVIOUSLY would clap his trotters together at the notion of reducing minimum wage for ANYONE.

Again - NOT on the side of the workers!

There is a middle ground that most of us manage to find though.

I like Greens. They are a new and improved Labour.

Well I do. I never refer to politicians that way on here. I would either use only the surname or the first name and surname.

DavidPeckham · 27/02/2026 17:37

The basics as I see it are that both labour and conservative have failed their core voters. Neither have delivered what the centre right or centre left want and have become a jumbled mess of who knows what. Neither party has any soul. I’m very much a god king and country type but the conservatives are no longer that. Equally if you are a traditional labour voter all you’ve seen is rich Islington elites pushing trans rights and free Palestine at the expense of what matters to you trying to make ends meet day to day. Both parties have completely lost their core values and voting base, and this is why there is the huge political shift happening in this country.

So, in steps reform and the Green Party. Reform’s tactics are pretty easy to understand - sell the Britain first message and restore national pride. This will appeal to huge numbers of voters who are tired of being called racist or nazi for being concerned about large scale unchecked immigration that has seen public services and traditional communities ripped apart. They were promised that Brexit would deliver control of our borders but in reality it has achieved nothing of the sort.

And then the Green’s. I can see the strategic playbook a mile off. Align yourself with Palestine and trans rights and attract vast swathes of voters to your cause. A home for the guardianista academic types who would have traditionally voted labour married uncomfortably to at the very least conservative Islam, if not radical, and of course the woke elements of the current culture wars. Clever really. Does this voting base care about deforestation or the plight of polar bears? Some might but who really cares, the greens are tired of having no seats in parliament and this is their opportunity given the void left by the traditional Labour Party. They are debating shortly on whether Zionism should be equated with racism, and in essence supporting a single Palestinian state which will eradicate Israel and align the Green Party with the stated goals of Hamas. This motion is being tabled by Lubna Speitan a member of various pro-Palestinian groups. This is the same Hamas lest we forget who raped and slaughtered women and babies amongst others on October 7th 2023. Make no mistake that this is antisemitism dressed up with blonde hair and a green jacket.

Support who you want but do it with your eyes open.

Who would have thought that Racist Rhetoric, and the demonisation of anyone none-white wouid be a vote loser with ethic minority groups?

Tactical voting to kept those racists out seems like a great idea.

I’m a Labour voter, but would have voted Green yesterday … send the Reform candidate back to London.

It’s not “sectarian voting” (nasty words from Reform), it’s “tactical voting”

Yep - Reform seem really bitter at tactical voting but they just need to accept it and take the L on this.

Same but it’s an odd point to make when the use of first names is so common and widespread. Some people wouldn’t even know who you meant if you said Johnson, so ubiquitous has Boris become.

ParmaVioletTea · 27/02/2026 15:12

The Greens don't know what a woman is.

And the local by-election campaign was won on their anti-Semitic policies.

And which “anti-semitic policies” is Polanski shooting himself in the head with?

I have hardly posted in the last month, but if I am commenting it’s because of the laughable things you are writing that stick out like a sore thumb among other posts.

the80sweregreat · 27/02/2026 17:45

David Peckham, I so agree with your post!
The Greens have elected a leader who resonates with the younger voters by being personable ( Hannah Spencer seems like this too)
If it’s real or not , I don’t know , but it seems to have worked. I don’t agree with their policies, but for some politicians to have the gift of appearing to be your friend seems to work. For all his many faults , Boris Johnson had that gift ( as does Andy burnham)
Unfortunately it’s passed Sir Keir starmer by!

There is a middle ground that most of us manage to find though.

There is, but younger generations seem to be rejecting it.

There is a growing tendency to prioritise health, both physical and mental.

I guess I'm just left wondering if they have it at least partly right?

How is the greens got anything to do with the left?

Maybe you need to do some research and look at what progressive politics actually means.
