Withdrew from mum frenemy and she turned up today!

I met someone who I thought was a mum friend around 2yrs ago but she started showing her true colours criticising other friends children’s behaviour enabling her own children especially one being a nasty bully.

i tried to give constructive feedback but there was always an excuse. I found the final straw when a few others from the group wanted a no drama day trip with the kids to the beach, we were open that we were going as we saw her the same morning before we left and she went mental and threw a fit ~ this is not my type of person. I don’t do cliques and feel everyone is free to do as they wish. When my children don’t get invited to parties I say well that’s life etc. there was a party she was not invited to and she turned up and I just paid as I felt awkward.

anyway today she turns up at my house I saw her on the camera, I had to shut the blinds and hide - this has really freaked me out. She messaged me last about 6 months ago and haven’t seen her since (not at same school). I didn’t reply to last message and ones before I just gave very short replies. Not sure how to not feel on edge now in my own home !

For god’s sake, OP, just open the door and tell her you’re busy. What do you think she’s going to do — shove past you and trash the house because you once went to the beach without her?

Hahahaaaaaa

OP still hasn't answered this!

Also crazy how invested some posters are in defending her.

No she was waking up and down looking didn’t ring it

That’s quite the security camera you have if it picks up people driving past on the road with such clarity that you can identify not only the car but the driver! As an aside, you also need to change the orientation because you are filming people on the public highway without their consent.

Apart from that however, how much time do you spend staring at the footage from your security camera?! And do you run around pulling blinds every time someone you don’t like goes past in their car in case they come back to your door?!

It’s not a public highway it’s set back from the main road

People are mostly suggesting that closing the blinds and hiding is not a normal response to someone you used to know driving past your house.

And several others are suggesting the OP should just invite her in, she probably just wants to chat, why be so mean… anything they can come up with to make it the OP’s problem.

I wouldn’t be drawing the blinds or actively hiding - but I wouldn’t be answering the door to anyone I didn’t want to see either.

So hold on…….she didn’t actually ring your door bell or walk towards your door!!

Just walked on your street a public street.

MyrrAgain · 21/02/2026 10:50

Not read the whole thread but in reply to your OP - so you told her you were all going to the beach and she was NOT invited and think meh that’s fine?! Just because you think alls fair in parties and war? Pretty unkind. Not surprised she was upset. No wonder she inserts herself into parties or tries to connect with people. You paying for her at the party was your own choice as well. Let her deal with it if she wants to be there. HTH

Your OP is very misleading.

You said “anyway today she turns up at my house I saw her on the camera”. but she didn’t did she, she was on your street.

Please can you confirm this?

Crazy how invested some posters are in getting OP to spend time with a woman she doesn’t like and hasn’t been in contact with in six months.

She only had to answer the door like a fully grown adult woman.

"Not today Susan, I'm busy".

ETA: Just read the woman didn't even ring the bell! 😬

Except it would seem the lady didn’t actually knock on her door, the OP has made it seem like she did but it turns out she didn’t.

Her crime was walking down the road

Well, if the former friend ever came to the door and rang her doorbell. The OP hasn’t said. It’s possible her sin was driving past.

You've had your fun OP.

And to be fair, you've taken us all in with it 🤣

It’s not a public highway it’s set back from the main road

Are you saying that you live on a private road and she drove down that?

AlohaRose · 21/02/2026 11:12

So more than 100 posts into the thread, we finally learn that “turning up at your house” is defined by you as driving past, parking somewhere and then walking back down your road?! So no ringing your doorbell, standing on your driveway, looking at your house even ??

I think you need find another hobby, staring at your security camera footage in case someone drives by on the road is not it!

GottaCatchSomeOfEm · 21/02/2026 11:17

No she was waking up and down looking didn’t ring it

So she didn't turn up at your house? She walked on your street? Has it occurred to you that her being there had nothing at all to do with you?

AnnieLummox · 21/02/2026 11:18

She only had to answer the door like a fully grown adult woman.

People keep saying this. Why? Why did she have to answer the door? Why do any of us - particularly to someone we actively don’t want to see?

I think this thread is a joke or something.🙄

No she was waking up and down looking didn’t ring it

So, she didn’t ’come to your house’ at all, far less knock on your door and expect you to answer? She drove past, reappeared on foot, and never approached your door? And could, in fact, have been trying to find an entirely different address to pick up something from one of your neighbours?

Catza · 21/02/2026 11:22

Ineedtoseetobelieve32 · 21/02/2026 10:04

I think OP is getting an unnecessarily hard time here. In the same way that mumsnet says that you don’t need a “valid” reason to break up with someone - you can just not want to be with them anymore, the same must be true of a friendship, and the other woman is at best oblivious to boundaries. OP doesn’t like confrontation so I understand her wanting to distance herself and avoid her.

Edited

Correct. But when you want to break up with someone, the etiquette is to inform them of the fact in a kind and respectful way. It's not to stop replying to their messages for six months and hide under the table should they happen to drive past your house.

AnnieLummox · 21/02/2026 11:24

We have found out she didn’t actually turn up at her door though.

But the point is, when we were all working on the assumption she had, several people were saying OP should have opened it. Again - why?

Autumngirl5 · 21/02/2026 11:28

Anotherwine · 21/02/2026 09:36

She probably is wondering why I don’t want to be friends with her as she imposes on others.

You sound very hard work.

So, your whole post is about you not answering the door to someone who didn't ring your bell??

NorthXNorthWest · 21/02/2026 11:43

Anotherwine · 21/02/2026 08:38

You get an alert where there’s movement on the camera, she has dropped another mums child off to me before.

she hasn’t been in my house before this is a step too far.

NorthXNorthWest · 21/02/2026 11:45

SeashellHouse · 21/02/2026 11:45

Anotherwine · 21/02/2026 11:40

So what on earth is all the fuss about? She didn’t knock on your door, talk to you, try to make you interact with her etc. If she’d wanted to talk to you, she clearly changed her mind.
