he has apologised to those that were offended by his choice of language. He hasn’t apologised for the principle of what he was saying.

StarlightLady · 12/02/2026 19:10

That was not an apology.

Furthermore he is not a UK resident anyway. He campaigned for Brexit and moved to Monaco.

Bruisername · 12/02/2026 19:13

He meant what he said so why expect an apology tbh.

instead of being outraged at his language it would be better if politicians countered the point and explained why what he said was wrong

Or the fact he flat out lied about the numbers…

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2026 19:16

He is a racist

And lied about the numbers

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 12/02/2026 19:16

He's a disgrace. What does he think he is when he's at his residences in Switzerland and Monaco? He's an immigrant!

And he got his facts wrong and hasn't mentioned that in his 'apology'. He's another bloody Farage wannabe.

Figures being over 9 million out for starters. That’s a lot of people.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2026 19:17

But I find it insulting. Better to say "I stand by my words" than to issue this flim flam. Its obvious he doesnt mean it so why say it just because the PM told him to. I would have more respect for him standing by his beliefs (even if I disagree with them) than I do for him pretending to play nice.

As has been pointed out, he doesnt even live here anyway! He is an immigrant himself, to avoid paying tax!

You know he lied about the numbers? That’s why he’s wrong. It’s pretty simple. I don’t buy that he thought he was right. Google exists.

It is - and he’s a bullshit merchant - but the whole Brexit and reform farce has been fed by politicians shouting people down as stupid and racist rather than addressing their concerns (I’m not talking about JR but the people he was talking to)

same has happened in Germany

AmberDreams · 12/02/2026 19:19

He never said he was apologising. He simply stated he could have used different terminology but his points remain the same.

What he said is demonstrably correct. It is an indisputable fact that immigration has totally changed some areas of the UK. Whether you see that as a problem or not is a matter of personal opinion.

He also stated that having 9m people on benefits is not sustainable. I’d argue that is also true.

I think it’s a good thing that an influential businessmen feels able to speak up. The notion that everything is OK and that we have an unlimited capacity to absorb more people is ridiculous.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2026 19:19

And YY, there should have been an apology about the lies.

It all sounds very Trump in the way he invented "facts" and then bullshits around the issue when confronted.

Completely agree

But his concerns are bullshit lies. Why do they need addressing?

Huckleberries · 12/02/2026 19:21

He had to say something because of the club is all.

is it 9 million or 6 million on benefits? He obviously got his other figures wrong so I don't know.

he really should have said something about his wildly inaccurate figure though.

Allseeingallknowing · 12/02/2026 19:21

Tortephant · 12/02/2026 19:06

Why should he? He said what he believes to be right.

What he said is demonstrably incorrect. His figures were out by about 10 million. Immigration has always changed places. Ask Wales. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Edit: a lot of people are on benefits because twats like him don't pay high enough wages. We are subsidising him. Like with the massive loan we gave him for some reasons I can’t quite understand.

So a non-apology.

Allseeingallknowing · 12/02/2026 19:21

Why should he? He said what he believes to be right.

And not to mention his huge tax avoidance and that he is not a UK resident.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2026 19:22

Don't call a racist a racist, call them concerned, right? Hmm

Bruisername · 12/02/2026 19:23

cardibach · 12/02/2026 19:20

But his concerns are bullshit lies. Why do they need addressing?

Why address at all then? Why not just say he’s a private citizen with a terrible grasp of numbers and you’re not going to comment. But shouting about an apology for the language he used will have people who agree with him feel like they’re not listened to.

addressing the untruths opens a conversation with those people and that’s how you start to change opinions

we need proper debate on this topic - not just shutting people down

Allseeingallknowing · 12/02/2026 19:23

StarlightLady · 12/02/2026 19:22

I thought the same thing. In the same way that Brexit gave xenophobic Little Englanders the confidence to voice opinions they would previously have swallowed out of shame, Trump has emboldened every racist, paranoid gobshite in the English speaking world to say exactly what comes into their heads. It’s going to be very tiresome for some time to come.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2026 19:24

Allseeingallknowing · 12/02/2026 19:23

No but its a bit fucking rich to moan about immigrants changing the UK when he lives in a tax haven with a load of other immigrants!

But he’s wrong. His figures were wildly wrong. He’s entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.
