Across the member states of the EU since 2000 the population has risen by 4.9% - mainly due to immigration, not natural population increase.
In the UK the population has gone up by 18.1% since 2000.
This is mainly due to immigration - and it’s not sustainable.

Foreign born people claim between 38-43% of all benefits (so not just UC). Some of these are from Ireland and have dual nationality which is why it’s difficult to give an accurate %age.

In Many London boroughs, and boroughs in our major cities( Birmingham and Manchester) the social housing is occupied by more than 50% people not born in the UK. Some are 80%.

Since 2020 reported rapes have gone up by 54%.
That figure alone should be enough to scare the hell out of us.

I would rather people made a sincere effort to be truthful. But facts alone are not enough to inform opinions. I think he just said a number off the top of his head. I don't think he's particularly wedded to that particular figure and I don't think he cares and I don't think anyone else cares other than people who disagree and hope that this will discredit him enough to persuade one or two people to reject his premise.

It's interesting that the media seem to be emphasising problems with his choice of language over highlighting his factual inaccuracies.

Bollocks was it ‘off the top of his head’. He knew what he was doing.
The alternative is that he’s totally fucking stupid and I don’t think I’m allowed to say that abput Reform supporters.

IcebergRightAhead · 12/02/2026 20:33

This silly old fool is sucking up to Reform UK and Farage because he thinks there’ll soon be an election and he wants to get them onside so that they’ll give him some more of our tax payer money to build himself a new billion pound stadium.

He did the same with Starmer before Labour was elected.

He’s very recently sacked over 500 low-paid local workers and yet he’s complaining about “too many people on benefits”, just days after he’s been handed £120 million of our taxes.

He threatened to sack people for not coming into the office when there wasn’t even space for them in the office!

Not to mention his behaviour around Brexit, his tax affairs and moving his workforce abroad.

And frankly he looks like he sleeps in a skip.

I agree that the welfare state is out of control and I do think immigration has had a huge impact on communities. But he is the last person to be talking about this.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2026 20:34

Yellowshirt · 12/02/2026 20:29

You don't think the welfare and immigration bill need to be cut? They are absolutely destroying this country. Wake up. It's not sustainable. The country will go bankrupt

Nonsense.

unless you can back these feelz with facts?

Araminta1003 · 12/02/2026 20:34

So another billionaire who supported Leave, then left the country to avoid paying any tax here, and now thinks anyone cares about what he has to say, about anything? I mean if you harm the country to the tune of many billions why should anyone listen to him at all?

Muffsies · 12/02/2026 20:37

He's got no intention of apologising. But he should be MADE to admit what he said about the increase in population was UTTER LIES.

5MinuteArgument · 12/02/2026 20:37

He got his stats wrong. The population of the UK hasn't gone up by 12 million since 2020.

It's gone up by 2.7 million since 2020, according to the BBC today. So we've added the equivalent of 8 Newcastle-upon-Tynes to our population. Or 2.25 Briminghams.

What could possibly go wrong?

Yellowshirt · 12/02/2026 20:38

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2026 20:18

No "they" couldnt.

Sadly it really isnt as simple as you seem to believe, we all wish it was!

We have the highest energy prices in Europe. The government could step in tomorrow to cut prices.
How much tax do we pay on a litre of petrol?
Yes the government could step in tomorrow and help working people.
How can they can afford 7 million pounds for hotels for immigrants if its not that easy.

Net immigration is down

What he said is demonstrably incorrect. His figures were out by about 10 million. Immigration has always changed places. Ask Wales. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Edit: a lot of people are on benefits because twats like him don't pay high enough wages. We are subsidising him. Like with the massive loan we gave him for some reasons I can’t quite understand.

Yes, very well said, exactly this.

All I want to say is, I silently give thanks every day , that the cardiac unit of my local hospital has been “colonised” if that is the word favoured by Ratcliffe, by fiercely bright, able, hard-working, and modest to a fault, surgeons from the Indian sub-continent, because a good chunk of my family wouldn’t be alive now without their expertise.

And they are all paying tax in the UK too, unlike Ratcliffe who is an immigrant himself, in Monaco.

I don't think it was a deliberate lie. Nobody who didnt already agree would have been persuaded.

Goatsarebest · 12/02/2026 20:43

Well UK borrows 150 billion a year to sustain the State it has created and plenty think the State should spend more, so he is correct. It's not sustainable to have the number of economically inactive people we currently have. What policies and priorities need to change are another debate. But the reaction was that what he said was offensive, not that we can not afford to run the Country how we currently are doing. So now the real truth that our society is bancrupt but spends other people's money to sustain it and we need to decide how to deal with this, has been lost in a debate of what is offensive and if an apology is an apology. A very familiar pattern.

How is it nonsense? Look at the uk debt and interest we pay.
You can't just keep ignoring it whilst having open borders and out of control welfare bills

Well for starters, the 'we have open borders' is nonsense

But I am sure you can back up your feels with facts....

But I find it insulting. Better to say "I stand by my words" than to issue this flim flam. Its obvious he doesnt mean it so why say it just because the PM told him to. I would have more respect for him standing by his beliefs (even if I disagree with them) than I do for him pretending to play nice.

As has been pointed out, he doesnt even live here anyway! He is an immigrant himself, to avoid paying tax!

He's not an immigrant.
He's a British citizen living abroad.

If we're going to get upset about people spouting things not borne out by facts we should not come back with other falsehoods.

Welfare bills which have increased by an amount owing to the number of people such as catering staff who have been sacked at Manchester United.

Both the surgeon who removed my breast tumour and my oncologist were immigrants, working in an NHS he doesn’t pay a penny towards. Go fuck yourself Jim.

I imagine it’s the illegal immigrants Ratcliffe is speaking about, not people who have applied come here by a legal route, with skills that we need and welcome.

How does Ratcliff know how many illegal immigrants live in the UK?

Unless he employes them 🤔

climbintheback · 12/02/2026 20:56

Are we a country of strangers being colonised by immigrants with 9 million on benefits depends where you live there is a top ten of no go areas in London for tourists online for anyone to see a million people who can’t speak English and stats say 9 million on benefits so maybe it’s not about him getting his figures wrong it’s about free speech and the Government sorting some of it out or there will definitely be a Reform Government in a couple of years.

Perhaps he watches the news and reads newspapers! He’s obviously referring to illegal immigrants!

Goatsarebest · 12/02/2026 20:58

100 billion a year, every year, of our tax goes on servicing our debt. Debt taken on to create a society we want but could never afford. We could provide plenty of services and housing for that 500 billion since covid. Every year we borrow more so more tax has to pay for it and services don't receive it. Every western country apart from Estonia run this model. We spend more than ever but it's disappearing in debt repayment and societal supports. By any definition, this is not sustainable.
This year it will be 125 billion tax money providing nothing just paying debt.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2026 20:59

Again how does he know the number of illegal immigrants?

Or are you talking about asylum seekers? In that case his numbers are even more out.
