Very well put, fully agree, wish I’d written that 👍.

Do you think he applies that to the immigrants playing for Man U?

Pedallleur · 12/02/2026 20:09

cardibach · 12/02/2026 19:49

Don’t see him as an immigrant? It’s not a matter of opinion. He’s an immigrant.

When money is involved the terms/labels change. So the billionaire is welcomed as a resident to the reassuringly expensive Monaco. Just like those non-doms are welcomed over here with their house buying and unexplained income. Scruffy Jim's income comes from his business but he would not describe himself as an immigrant like Frederick Trump (grandfather of Donald). Jim can move around to whichever tax haven seems favourable

but we aren’t allowed to say they are ill informed or a bit thick? When they base their opinion on falsehoods? Or feels?

I never said you weren't? I'm just saying that everyone's opinions are based on falsehoods and feels.

Allseeingallknowing · 12/02/2026 19:23

That wasn’t what he was talking about!

But this has everything to do with it, he is commenting about how the UK is run but not contributing tax.

Yet he is sacking staff from a rich club and reducing terms and conditions.

Not to mention overseas players that the club has brought in.

Yellowshirt · 12/02/2026 20:13

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2026 20:00

Ok this is getting silly now!

£12 an hour is a shit wage when the rent on a one bedroom flat can be £2000 a month depending on where you live! Where I am, East Mids market town, a 2 bed terrace will cost 140k + Try getting a mortgage on that on NMW, not going to happen. So you rent, except that rent is too high on NMW so it is topped up by housing benefit. So what happens is that tax payers are putting money into the pockets of those who have more than enough, and punching down on NMW earners for not working hard enough to earn more instead of getting angry with people like Ratcliffe and other big businesses for not paying a living wage.

What do you think the living wage should be then? Don't moan about the cost of living when they put food prices up again to cover another wage rise.
The government could easily change taxes tomorrow to make life more comfortable for working people . They could also slash energy bills and petrol/diesel prices.

He’s an immigrant. He can see himself how he likes I guess.

The fact that I would not describe myself as a middle aged woman doesnt mean that I am not one.

He is an immigrant, that is a fact. Opinion is of no consequence.

Slashing energy bills when energy companies are privately owned with shareholders earning dividends is not so simple.

lt is akin to asking the government to reduce prices in Tescos.

No "they" couldnt.

Sadly it really isnt as simple as you seem to believe, we all wish it was!

So companies must be allowed to cash in with massive profits underwritten by tax payer money enabling their employees to actually survive, and the better answer would be to cut services and the welfare state (the result of cutting taxes)? The government can’t slash energy bills because Tories sold the companies to their mates, so that’s out.
At some point we have to challenge this nonsense.

Maybe he should fill his Man United squad with British Born player only ?

Maybe he should not be asking taxpayers to contribute money to the new stadium he wants to build, if he’s concerned about how much he a payers are forking out.

Man Utd players are hired on meritocracy. Does any football club use DEI when buying players?

hellohullo · 12/02/2026 20:20

he can eff off back to Monaco, he has no right to state such things whilst being made rich off the back of UK citizens and paying no tax.

The point is that a someone who employs immigrants and is an immigrant himself is a massive hypocrite for slagging off immigrants!

That was not an apology.

Furthermore he is not a UK resident anyway. He campaigned for Brexit and moved to Monaco.

So he wouldn't have to pay tax which is ironic as he's moaning about benefit claimants who also don't all pay tax. 🤔

This might not be relevant but am I the only one really disgusted by the Guardian using the picture below?

Out of all the photos of this scruff that exist, what a coincidence that they’ve just so managed to find a picture of him wearing a poppy! He’s not even facing the camera but they’ve used it anyway.

Stoking the fires of division and sneering at those who wear the poppy. Suggesting those who wear the poppy are flag shaggers and racists, politicising the simple tradition whilst pretending that it’s “the other side” who are politicising it.

They know exactly what they’re doing.

Manchester United took the extraordinary step of publicly asserting their ‘inclusive and welcoming’ values after their co-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s comments about immigration

I think that’s a bit of a stretch. Poppies aren’t the province of flagshaggers and have never been seen like that. I think Ratcliffe has a bit of a cheek to wear one when not paying tax though.

You don't think the welfare and immigration bill need to be cut? They are absolutely destroying this country. Wake up. It's not sustainable. The country will go bankrupt

Countries can’t go bankrupt.
So you want companies ti make bigger and bigger profits subsidised by the benefit bill? We can’t afford it. It’s not sustainable.

I would rather people made a sincere effort to be truthful. But facts alone are not enough to inform opinions. I think he just said a number off the top of his head. I don't think he's particularly wedded to that particular figure and I don't think he cares and I don't think anyone else cares other than people who disagree and hope that this will discredit him enough to persuade one or two people to reject his premise.

It's interesting that the media seem to be emphasising problems with his choice of language over highlighting his factual inaccuracies.
