The cost of living has not gone down. I live in the US, in a red state in the south; we moved here 18 months ago for DH’s work, 6 months before Trump was inaugurated. Groceries, energy and eating out all cost more than they did in summer 2024. Gas prices fluctuate but are no way consistently less than when we arrived.

BTW, we also lived here during the Obama years and the cost of living was genuinely affordable.

There is no point in trying to educate people like this. They are beyond help.

A neutral source of reference is invaluable. 'Google' both censors results and gives prominence to those that promote the leftist agenda favoured by the company. The 'Brave' browser is recommended as a politically unbiased search-engine; it also doesn't track you. For so-called 'confirmation bias', stick with 'Google' 🤷🏽‍♀️
