Sorry if I missed a thread, but has anyone else seen this?

It’s fucking disgusting.

I thought nothing this man could do would shock me anymore, how can he still be in office?

I saw it this morning, whoever was our PM wouldn’t survive 24 hours in their job for this! As it’s Trump, guessing nothing will happen

I’m embarrassed to admit I’m American these days but TBF this sort of thing would have taken down countless other American politicians as well. No other previous president would have ever gotten away with the things he gets away with. He was completely right when he said he could shoot someone in broad daylight and not lose support from his followers. The MAGA cult is truly baffling to me and disgusting.

PermanentTemporary · 06/02/2026 14:31

To be fair, it is still almost impossible to believe the stuff that that man does during his no doubt lengthy bored sessions on the White House khasi.

Tryagain26 · 06/02/2026 14:31

I haven't seen it but I've heard about it.
Honestly I despair of the system in the USA. If the leader of any European country had behaved like this their position would be untenable. Trump seems to be able to get away with anything. The USA seems to become more and more like a dictatorship every day bending to the whims of a narcissist

emmetgirl · 06/02/2026 14:36

Nothing he says or does surprises me. He’s beyond vile and so are his supporters.

I mean Trump is a known racist so that’s no surprise.
But this who most Yanks feel best represents them so…..

I will say Trump’s obsession with Obama needs to be studied in a lab. It’s absolutely insane how obsessed he is with that man but I think he is still incensed that a black-ish man had the nerve to run for president and win. Twice!

Also likely another Epstein misdirect.

explanationplease · 06/02/2026 14:42

Poor America.

Lndnmummy · 06/02/2026 14:43

They 'the people' voted for this racist scum of a human being. Not one person can say they didn't know what they voted for. Of course they did. UK and Farage will be next.

I think it’s your useless media to be honest. In most European countries when a leader crosses a serious red line (which Trump has done about 10 times at least) the media as a whole will often come together and not let up until their respective party usually decides it’s not worth the headache and forces them to step down as party leader. While in the US the media is always walking on eggshells around “Mr President” as they have to respect “the office” even when the incumbent doesn’t.

I don't really disagree with anything you've said.

I think the difference for me between the examples in your second paragraph and Trump is that all of your examples have the chance to make a measurable difference. The teacher can educate the child, we can ostracise the friend at the dinner party, deleting the posts on the forum means the racist is just shouting into the void.

Criticising Trump doesn't have an equivalent effect. If anything, it just emboldens him, feeds into his us against the world narrative he has for his base. It's like he's a toddler who's discovered that shouting a swear word gets a reaction. There are no consequences that will get him to shut up, so the only way to deal with it is to not give him the oxygen.

I realise I'm in the minority on this though, so I'll pipe down and stop derailing the thread

He doesn't have to shut up (he won't). He doesn't have to learn (he's incapable). It still matters what we do and say.

If we ignore him, others won't. The racists he inspires and represents will give him all the oxygen and attention he craves. And if we're saying nothing, they won't be afraid to stay quiet themselves. If there's no backlash and no condemnation, the message that everyone gets is that racism will be tolerated.

We can't silence or educate Trump, but we can speak out for what we believe in and we should.

That isn't true, though. I think we should stand in solidarity with the decent American people who are as horrified as we are by Trump.

Lampzade · 06/02/2026 14:50

It is called deflection
He doesn’t want anyone talking about his links with Epstein so he deliberately did this to provoke a reaction
The man is sick in the head

TheCountessofLocksley · 06/02/2026 14:57

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 06/02/2026 12:54

Why should any of our politicians mention it at all?

It's not our country, not our politics. It's nothing to do with us. Commenting on it just throws more weight behind Trump. The best thing we can do is just ignore him as much as humanly possible.

All that happens if we comdemn it is that it gives Trump another distraction opportunity. That's precisely what he's looking for.

Because not speaking out and not challenging racism is how it starts to rise and spread. That man holds the highest office in his country - his behaviours encourage others to behave the same way. What message is he sending to all Afro-Americans/POC?

All world leaders need to speak up and say how this is unacceptable. Silence is not the answer when racism comes knocking and anyone who thinks is it is needs to take a long hard look at themselves because silence = complicity/agreement/empathy for those opinions.

JustMyView13 · 06/02/2026 15:00

You question whether they actually still live in a democracy given it appears nobody is able to do anything about any of this. As many have said, plenty of PMs here have lost their jobs for far far less. Everything Kamala said would happen, is.

Beamur · 06/02/2026 15:03

Almost everything Trump does is about something else. I think more people are noticing this. I hope so anyway.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 06/02/2026 15:12

@Isabella777 I think most non Americans understand this frustration. Even when people win a vote, unless it's a landslide there are still almost half the population that disagree and have to live with the consequences. Any reasonable person would feel sorry for those citizens who feel powerless and have to suck it up.

Thedogscollar · 06/02/2026 15:14

IceBrownie · 06/02/2026 13:43

I cannot abide this notion that the rest of the world should ignore it

It is not a US problem, it's an issue for HUMANITY and last time I checked that's as global as it can be.

Everyone with a platform should absolutely speak against it in the strongest possible way

Absolutely this.
It is up to everyone to call this shit out.
He might as well appear in a white robe with a pointy hood.
He debases the position he holds every single day.
I didn't think it could get any worse, then it just did.
If the highest office in the free world puts out this overt racism and gets away with it then what hope do we have.

Where this was heading should have been obvious when his mate got up on stage and saluted at his inauguration but people made excuses for it, just like they will make excuses for this.

Ponderingwindow · 06/02/2026 15:25

Trump is a racist and horrible person. He and his team post inflammatory videos to distract the news cycle from real issues.

I refuse to get angry about his inflammatory behavior anymore because that is what he wants. He wants me to get angry about a video so I don’t focus on the attack on American democracy.

He is trying to become a dictator and right now strategies like this are helping him.

You're not a minority of one. I agree. If we actually want racism to stop and are not just virtue signalling, then doing nothing is the correct thing to do.
Publicising this shite emboldens others to do the same. For Trump all publicity is good publicity. It is exactly what he needs to thrive. We need to completely blank the racist old git.

JMSA · 06/02/2026 15:34

Fucking hell. Just get assassinated already.

BelleDeJourRose · 06/02/2026 15:37

Yes he's disgraceful. He's cut from the same cloth as Nigel who was making hissing gas chamber noises at younger Jewish boys and bullying them in his late teens. I'm not far off in age from him and that was never anything other than despicable.

anotherside · 06/02/2026 15:38

And let’s always remember how Mr Farage views Trump.

Just several months ago he said:
“I have drawn amazing inspiration from the MAGA movement in this country. I’ve travelled the length and breadth of America. I’m the only figure from the other side of the Parliament that has consistently stood behind Trump, and stood behind the MAGA movement. I have never wavered in my thoughts or my views for one minute, even when it was an unpopular thing to do."

Trump America is repulsive, but he is still primarily (at least for now) an American problem for the American people to suffer. If we’re not careful we will get one of our very own before too long.

You can be angry (and should be) about more than one thing at once. We need to speak up because ignoring an unwanted behaviour will never change it - it just gives the impression of apathy, or complicity.

People may rightly despair at Labour and the Tories, but Farage’s lot would be on another level of awful.
