Is anyone following the Nancy Guthrie case?

Couldn't see a thread

Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mum of a US TV newsreader, is thought to have been kidnapped from her home

Does anyone think this is weird and that there's more to the story?

I believe the ransom deadline has also passed.

I can't imagine how I would feel if this happened to my vulnerable mum. I hope she's found soon

Horrible. The thinking seems to be her son in law, possibly with involvement of her daughter (not the newsreader). I think she’s already dead, the kidnapping/ransom is a red herring.

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 06/02/2026 00:37

That's horrific if it's someone relatively close or trusted. I did see that the blood on the porch is confirmed to be Nancy's. I agree it's not looking good.

I saw what looked like a news conference image with the newsreader in the middle, possibly flanked by her siblings, are they saying that the sister sat there is the one possibly responsible? How awful for the other two if so.

CollieModdle · 06/02/2026 01:34

It’s horrible.

The detail reported on the news about her pacemaker signal being disconnected (?) . What would make that happen? Is it a software or electronic process? They didn’t seem to imply that it meant her heart had stopped.

Momtotwokids · 06/02/2026 01:37

I’m in the USA and the news is everywhere. I think it may be someone who either worked at the house or knew her well. Personally I don’t think it is the son in law. I don’t think she is alive, she had some serious health issues issues and needed her meds.

I read it was that her Apple Watch was left behind in the house as she wasn’t wearing it, so the disconnection was simply that she (or her pacemaker) was too far away from the watch.

GhettoSnoopystar · 06/02/2026 01:41

I think some pacemakers have a separate monitoring device in the house, so it may just be that she was not near that, once she had left the house.

JustJoinedRightNow · 06/02/2026 01:47

It's awful. I really hope she is found safe and well.

CollieModdle · 06/02/2026 01:53

OK, thanks for the pacemaker info.

I wonder what disconnecting the door camera involves? And where it could be disconnected from without being seen? Have there been any details about the disconnection? E.g whether wires were pulled out of the wall or the WiFi connection to it was turned off?

It does sound to me as if the person could already have been in the house or knew the house and its systems really well.

Very much so.

If someone wanted her dead it would be easier and less risky to murder her in situ I would have thought. So a chance that someone is keeping her alive.

PainterInPeril · 06/02/2026 02:23

I'm following this case closely. There are rumours getting mixed up with actual news which is a bit confusing.
People will always point fingers at family but so far there doesn't seem to be an indication that they're involved.
There's a ransom note that may or may not be genuine, but it has to be treated as though it is. I hope she's found safe, but it's looking less likely as time goes on.

YankSplaining · 06/02/2026 03:55

I wouldn’t call Savannah Guthrie a newsreader, exactly. She’s a co-host of the Today Show, so it’s a lot of interacting with guests. She did used to report on trials earlier in her career, though.

American in the US, and this case is getting nonstop coverage over here. It’s such a bizarre one because it’s not obvious, at least to the public, what the motive was. Did the kidnapper(s) know Nancy Guthrie’s daughter was famous, or just that Nancy was a rich old lady? The fact that they haven’t been in touch with the family, despite pleas, makes me think that maybe the original plan was to hold Nancy for ransom but something went wrong and she’s deceased. For the kidnapper(s), there’s no point in getting in touch if they can’t provide proof that Nancy’s alive.

All of her medications were left behind at her house. I’m not sure what they were for, exactly, but I read that they were for serious health conditions, so they fact that she hasn’t had them for five days is another bad indicator.

I think it means that the person with the pacemaker is out of range from the monitor that would be plugged in beside their bed and sends signals overnight to the lab. When my husband travels he would either have to take the monitor with him or let the lab know he's away so they know not to expect signals. The monitor doesn't 'work' the pacemaker.

PainterInPeril · 06/02/2026 04:29

@YankSplaining Nancy has a pacemaker and takes medication for cardiac issues as well as high blood pressure.

Ohhhthedrama · 06/02/2026 05:51

It's like watching Dateline in real time. I really feel for the Guthries so much nasty speculation online. The person saying the Sil is involved is Ashley Banfield a true crime podcaster who claims to have a source in the police. Not exactly reliable. The sheriff's office has said they have no suspects or Poi and the public should not spread social media speculation. I hope this had a swift conclusion for the family.

JanBlues2026 · 06/02/2026 07:57

I think a planned abduction seems so unlikely and an odd choice of victim. I think it’s more likely an altercation with someone she knows or a burglary gone wrong.

VerityUnreasonble · 06/02/2026 07:57

The FBI have arrested someone for faking one of the ransom notes, although there are others. Awful people trying to take advantage of this.

25mini7 · 06/02/2026 08:50

Why would her son in law let her enter her home through the garage alone and drive off?. Surely anyone would escort an elderly lady inside, have a quick look round and then leave. Its odd.

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 06/02/2026 10:08

The doorbell camera removal is weird because the time that got disconnected was around 45 minutes before the apple watch disconnected from her pacemaker. So did they remove it then wait for a period of time to see if it triggered a silent alarm or something, before then entering the property? Or did they go in straight away, and then why would it take 45 minutes to take her unless it was someone known to her that was there under other pretences or whatever.

I’ve been following this. I’ve just discovered that Savannah Guthrie interviewed many of the Epstein victims ahead of his trial. The timing seems very suspicious, but no links have been made in Western MSM. It’s been reported in the Hindustan Times, as well as SM.

TigTails · 10/02/2026 18:52

They’ve released video doorbell footage of the suspect!!

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 10/02/2026 19:00

That looks really scary, the poor family.

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 10/02/2026 19:09

The stuff of nightmares, I can't imagine how terrified she would have been to have come face to face with somebody like that in the dark.
They seem confident she is still alive, I hope this will give them the breakthrough they need to find her

I’ve just started following this. The eyebrows on the person at the door are so strange surely it has to be woman?

TigTails · 10/02/2026 21:19

I thought that initially too, but when you look at the physical build of the person it definitely looks like a man
