Is anyone following the Nancy Guthrie case?

Couldn't see a thread

Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mum of a US TV newsreader, is thought to have been kidnapped from her home

Does anyone think this is weird and that there's more to the story?

I believe the ransom deadline has also passed.

I can't imagine how I would feel if this happened to my vulnerable mum. I hope she's found soon

Where are you seeing this reported?

Three suspects detained, one dead according to Shadow Hills neighbor | The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie | kvoa.com

guinnessguzzler · 14/02/2026 08:12

Thanks @lovelyweatherforasleighride it says I can't access for legal reasons, something to do with GDPR, so presume that is stateside reporting. BBC have just posted an updated article but nowhere near as much info. I expect they'll catch up once they've gone through their verification process.

The whole thing is just awful, it's horrible to think of anyone being put through that trauma but particularly an older person and her children must be so worried.

lovelyweatherforasleighride · 14/02/2026 08:14

First two paras:

"TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - A Shadow Hills resident tells News 4 Tucson that she witnessed three people being detained during a SWAT operation on Friday night. According to an unconfirmed report by a neighbor, another person shot himself in the head.

This comes after a SWAT situation occurred in the Shadow Hills neighborhood on Feb. 13. A man and a woman were detained at the house, and a third person was detained in a traffic stop, according to sources close to the investigation."

I saw some "experts" discussing the doorbell footage.

They very much felt the balaclava clad intruder was an amateur-he was unprepared with anything to cover the camera and attempted to do it with a piece of shrubbery.
They were saying a professional would have brought something to cover camera and not been shown in a close up 👀

guinnessguzzler · 14/02/2026 08:25

Thanks @lovelyweatherforasleighride that sounds terrifying.

NewAgeNewMe · 14/02/2026 08:33

I keep thinking of if this was my mum. So scary for all involved.

HighStreetOtter · 14/02/2026 17:16

Now they’re saying nobody was arrested in the swat raid this morning. It’s not looking good.

I work as a carer many of whom are a similar age to Nancy and live alone some fairly rurally. Each evening as I lock up I can’t help but think of Nancy and how scared she must have been. I can’t imagine how awful it must be for her family and friends.

lovelyweatherforasleighride · 14/02/2026 20:59

I keep reading stories from former law enforcement from the local area openly criticizing the sheriff in the media, saying he is ego-driven and stubborn. This situation is insane:

"TUCSON, Ariz. (NewsNation) — An FBI official tells NewsNation that Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is blocking federal agents from accessing key evidence in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, hindering the bureau’s ability to assist in the case.

The evidence includes a glove discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s home and DNA samples — described as “basically all the evidence” in the case so far, according to the FBI source. The sheriff sent the evidence to a private lab in Florida for testing instead of allowing the FBI to send it to its laboratory in Quantico, Virginia.

“We had to ask them to help, they didn’t ask us,” the FBI source said, adding that the bureau will have to test the evidence again after getting it back from Florida, which will take more time. “This is dumb,” the source said. “It’s insane.”

What's the latest with this? I have the impression it was very badly managed by the first responders - is that the consensus?

HighStreetOtter · 01/03/2026 15:12

Gosh, have they still not found her? Not looking good really.

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 01/03/2026 15:17

Yes I can't believe it's not been solved yet. Have the ransom notes and emails stopped?
It sounds like they've run out of leads. So sad for the family

It all seems to have gone very quiet doesn’t it. At first I was hopeful that this may mean the investigation was moving forwards but it does seem to have stalled.

In all honesty I can’t find much hope that she will still be alive. It does unfortunately sound like there was significant signs of violence within the house. It was also known the man was carrying a gun.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 01/03/2026 15:26

I was thinking about this, I’m starting to think sadly she will never be found,

Ohhhthedrama · 01/03/2026 17:31

It's so wierd isn't it. I wonder if something totally out of left field happened. Like she was burgled but not hurt just scared and went wondering off confused into the night and has succumbed to the elements somewhere.

Sadly this is not the case. There is evidence that she was hurt and that there was “significant signs of violence” within the house.
If she had been burgled and wandered off she would have almost certainly been found. The area in which she lived is suburban. Houses 100m or so apart. The local area has been searched extensively and has been crawling with press since she went missing. She had limited mobility she would not have been able to travel far unaided.

The police have been clear from the outset that this was an abduction. At the point Nancy was removed from the property all evidence points to her being alive as her pacemaker was still recording her heart rate until she was out of range. That data (according to media reports) also strongly indicated that she was highly stressed in the period up to her removal from the house.

guinnessguzzler · 01/03/2026 21:24

It's almost too awful to contemplate. I really feel for Nancy and her family. I can't imagine why anyone would be so cruel.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 01/03/2026 21:44

I read somewhere that the FBI moved the command post to somewhere else a little further away. Plus her home is no longer considered a crime scene, the police have done what they want with fingerprints etc and are almost at the stage of handing it back to relatives. None of that sounds good at all unfortunately.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 02/03/2026 07:59

Very sad indeed

Reliablesource · 02/03/2026 08:17

Very unlikely that she is still alive, given her age, poor health and the fact she hasn’t got her medication.

I think the most plausible explanation is indeed a kidnapping for ransom by someone perhaps connected to, for example, a gardener, pool cleaner, postman, window cleaner, etc, who will have mentioned who she is and that she lives alone, etc. Ransom plan obviously went tits-up and now the culprit may have a dead body to dispose of, which is a whole different scenario.

The stuff about unknown DNA is not helpful. EVERY house will have unknown DNA in it. Think about all the previous people who may have lived in or visited a house, plus every plumber, electrician, cleaner, grocery delivery person carrying groceries into your kitchen, etc over the years. Unknown DNA all over the place.

The theories about Trump/Epstein are just too wild IMO. There are much easier ways to get at someone without drawing so much attention. Think it’s also dreadful to point the finger at family members with no evidence - surely we can assume that the police have scrutinised the family and their alibis for the night in question.

TessTickle0 · 02/03/2026 08:40

That does seem likely.
I know about a fake note but was a ransom not ever received and did the family not pay?

The family said on camera that they would pay the ransom upon receipt of proof of life. None has so far been provided.
