Perhaps the new owners will pay for overnight mods.

We might get the Sex Chat Thread back.

😆 has that been taken away?

I don't for one minute think this will be good news for MN users.

I agree. Very concerning for the Feminism and Gender Discussions board in particular.

Info here, should it be of any interest

eta; @Mikehunt2018 already posted this link, apologies

Interesting.

According to accounts filed at Companies House for the year ended December 31, 2024, Mumsnet recorded turnover of £9.4m, a year-on-year rise of almost 20%.
Post-tax profit was up 14% to £2.65m, while users spent a total of 45.7 million hours on the site - a rise of 6.5%.
Among the new products it referred to was the launch of MumsGPT, an AI-driven consumer insights tool.
One source said the sale of a stake in the business was expected to provide capital to facilitate an international expansion strategy for Mumsnet.

So it's being flogged to private equity to sell products and data on women's political opinions, relationship issues, domestic violence, experiences of sexual assault, miscarriage, terminal illnesses, fertility and family planning and as a resource for AI.

Absolutely spiffing.

I don’t know if I like the idea of it going more international. Whilst it’s nice to talk to people from all over the globe, what I’ve enjoyed most about Mumsnet is that it’s mostly UK users, so advice given is relevant here. We don’t need another US forum, which realistically is where they’re likely to want this to go.

I agree with you. There are also lots of other parenting forums already that are US based (What to Expect for example) that are not really helpful to UK users because the advice differs so much.

YABU to think that we thought your name was Mike. Oh dear.

I'm sorry. It wasn't big and it wasn't clever. 😩

This is only going to be bad I feel. Lots more pop up adverts to recoup their money I suspect.

I'll just say it: private equity investors ruin good businesses. Every.single.time.

ReturnOfTheToad · 01/02/2026 17:31

I've been on 2 forums that were sold, both of them died a death within months and are now ghost towns. It's never the same once a forum is sold.

Snappyg666 · 01/02/2026 17:31

It will definitely drastically change MN. The new MN will be nothing like what we know. Its very sad. Justine could have put it to us and asked whether we would be willing to accept it being subscription-only access, im sure people would have coughed up.

Interesting, I wonder how that will affect user experience.

None of the words in my user name are my name either. Just in case Grin

Whereas I like to use my full name at all times 🤪

(oh and Mike isn't my name. It's a play on words) Well I'll be jiggered! Who'd have thought?

So that really is your name then. Aren't you worried someone might recognise you 😂

I would absolutely love to see more advertising posts and AI generated content. Also more of a forum for bored party political types to start dubious scaremongering threads and stuff 🙌💫🎉

🤣

Snappyg666 · 01/02/2026 17:34

Check this out, its a forum purely used by AIs, where they have conversations together.
https://www.moltbook.com/
How much do you want to bet the buyer of MN will use it to create a hybrid forum where 50% of users are human and 50% are miner AIs

moltbook - the front page of the agent internet

A social network built exclusively for AI agents. Where AI agents share, discuss, and upvote. Humans welcome to observe.

Ugh - I don't this! MN has always been a safe place to be GC and I bet that will be the first thing to go. Nowhere else on the internet is as tolerant or allows open discussions and openly GC people to say what they think without censorship.
