I see one poster changed it to "mass exodus".
Bit better.

lightand · 02/02/2026 15:58

I had wondered before, elsewhere, if people say things as wishful thinking.
In this instance they wish X was dead, and so project their thoughts.

Crushed23 · 02/02/2026 16:06

At least one of the investors is US-backed, so I can’t wait for the all posters who are boycotting US-owned goods and services to bore off the forum 🥳🥳🥳

Is there a P. Nisbeaker? 🙂

Nice to meet you.

Peenysbeeker · 02/02/2026 16:24

This happened to an Irish forum some years ago and there was a 'massexodus' to another smaller site which at one point once it became very popular was to be sold but the owner decided to lock it down to private instead for some reason. Maybe there was not the financial investment to bother selling but the site is still going now just not too well known. The other site being sold prompted the move and no idea why as that site died a death itself not long afterwards.
Dont think I would want to keep a site forever myself so Justine obviously has her reasons for selling but I cannot imagine it will be any better for users in the long term. Maybe forums as a whole are dying out.

I do. I wasn't a member but used to read the boards. I was a 'bagger' from Handbag. 😂There were some characters on those boards and lot of laughs. [tattooee ring any bells? 😃]

So all of this is reminiscent of when Handbag went to shit.

God yeah, Handbag! That’s a blast from the past. What or who was Tattooee? I remember a girl who got her son’s name tattooed on her and it was spelt incorrectly and it made the papers. She took it in good grace to be fair!

That's who I meant. Yes she was a good laugh and good natured about it all. It spread over three or four boards at the time. 😅

ETA: It was she who misspelled 'tattoo'

Got you. Yeah agreed she was a good sport about it all.

Nice for them to let their users know, are we boycotting?

Why would they let users know when Justine's made her disdain for them clear on a number of occasions, including the infamous one where it was said the content producers were piggybacking on those prepared to pay for the Premium version?

Amiiee · 28/07/2026 00:41

Was about time

Tinytimmy123 · 28/07/2026 06:05

I used to read the Daily Mail many many moons ago...not for its politics just for the gossip and crossword. ( Now, i wouldnt use it to start a fire nor go online to Femail if my life depended on it) When 'the mail' started to go online to -Femail' ...there was the Charlotte Street /femail forums which were along the same structure and themes as mumsnet. Because of the similarities anyone know if the Femail forums site and Mumsnet were interlinked by originators, backers?? Just curious.

Perhaps it's time users started setting up their own chat forums. (Terfsnet, anyone?)

In keeping with the thread I'd like it noted that my real name is Dan Gleballs.

Haha. You don't remember the Moldies row, and the Christmas of a Thousand Burnt Turkeys then.

I wonder if we'll get the laugh react emoji back 😁

I hope not! They way people use the laugh reaction to passively aggressively mock people is just vicious and unkind.

MuddyPawsIndoors · 01/02/2026 17:26

The thing is "I’ve only just reregistered after...." is a tale as old as time on Mumsnet so they know that no matter what they do to the site, loads of people will be back regardless.

I deleted my original account here.

I use a separate browser for Mumsnet so any parasites (cookies) I pick up are contained but I see no adverts at all as it happens. The built in privacy features which I activated to the max seem to work well.

What does Mumsnet being sold have to do with trans people?

How do so many threads on here degenerate into people whinging about gender?

If a PE company wants to buy this place up then why not? It’s obvious that Justine and her mates aren’t interested in it any more, there’s no investment, no overnight moderation in spite of what happened last year, it’s just a cash cow for them.

What value is to be gained from the data on the site remains to be seen, but since most threads are people lying about their salary or how beautiful and willowy their children are, people arguing about strangers’ genitals or obvious perverts trying to get the wide-eyed Disney characters who spend their whole lives on here to tell them stories about their nipples, I think they’ll be very disappointed.

What happened last year?

Portakalkedi · 29/07/2026 21:33

I wouldn't be interested if it went jnternational, might as well go to reddit.

ChelseaFox · 29/07/2026 21:53

First FIFA and now MN. Everything just gets ‘bigger’ and somehow worse.

A number of appalling incidences of child abuse images being posted. It went on over a number of days if I recall.

I'm surprised you don't remember, if you were around then. They had to suspend all image posting for a while.

I was one of the first people to report the images (to the poor shocked nightwatch mod, and thank goodness I knew to do that.) In fairness I didn’t realise that this incident is what was being referred to by this post.
