I think it's the right thing to do, honestly. Why shouldn't she retire

lightand · 01/02/2026 17:44

GrooveArmada · 01/02/2026 17:29

I agree. Very concerning for the Feminism and Gender Discussions board in particular.

I have mixed feelings about that.

it is quite an horrific board.

PrincessScarlett · 01/02/2026 17:44

How do they know how old everyone is? From the threads I am on the age limit is not 45.

lightand · 01/02/2026 17:44

Queue a pile in or on.

I imagine it was to be done on the quiet with little information for MN users.

Like that was ever going to happen. Hopefully MN aka Justine will make a proper to announcement - directly to the users.

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/02/2026 17:43

It's really really hard to imagine more adverts.

The ads are getting out of control.

TellingBone · 01/02/2026 17:45

An opportunity here surely for some enterprising MNetter to set up an alternative board to which we might all migrate?

quantumbutterfly · 01/02/2026 17:45

BlessedCheesemaker · 01/02/2026 17:26

I would absolutely love to see more advertising posts and AI generated content. Also more of a forum for bored party political types to start dubious scaremongering threads and stuff 🙌💫🎉

Plus ça change....

Mansionscoldandgrey · 01/02/2026 17:45

This will be outing, but I am actually called Wayne Kerr.

I’m not I believe the user info. 8m users per month? How come on the threads that show views it’s very rarely in the hundreds?

Mumsnet's users are predominantly women aged between 25 and 45.

I have made threads about this but I think the users who are the most active are 55 plus.

Keroppi · 01/02/2026 17:45

What text based forums do we have left for UK centred mums? Netmums with their awful UI? Reddit Envy
Locked down Facebook groups I suppose. Or we retire to gransnet!

Monty34 · 01/02/2026 17:47

Westfacing · 01/02/2026 17:43

45.7 million hours on the site

Good grief - no wonder buyers are interested!

It is information that is of use to some. Data. Views. A newspaper I used to subscribe to became overtaken by what appeared to be paid users who were all Maga fans. It was relentless in the comments section. Any view that was alternative was shot down, not once but many times.
I left.

nOlives · 01/02/2026 17:47

I can't blame her, it's one of those things. She's given us a good run and deserves to collect and retire.
Hopefully someone will be along to start a replacement.
My name is not Olive. I am not an olive (yuck). I am not olive. I am alive.

Are you one of the Go-Go's?

JillyJoy · 01/02/2026 17:26

Why on earth would such a group want it/us.
I read that Justine is negotiating with a private equity Group for part sale.
Perhaps this is why we have had so many more ads, including the full page ones.
Fattened up and taken to market.

Data

Twitter was bought because the prior tech was designing to silo public opinion.

If you were profile ACB your feed was filled with ACB.

they also deveolped the ability to hide your posts without telling you what they had done.

So if your world view was something senior manager did not agreed with you vanished.

That would allow the platform to shape the political landscape or even supress realtime reporting of events

And don't forget in the school holidays when the average age of users drops to 15 year old males.

As long as there's an Emmerdale thread. I'm in.

wtf have they used the word ‘plot’ in that title? Hmm

while I do hope that ‘international’ doesn’t mean ‘yet another American dominated SM site’, it’d be quite nice to have a few more from other countries (particularly I suppose other parts of the ‘Anglosphere’ such as Canada, Oz and NZ.

I suppose Justine can’t be in control of mn forever - shes about 60 now - but I hope she doesn’t relinquish overall direction for a while yet.

Back in the day we could look on something called Boardreader or similar and see who was the most prolific poster that week. Golden years, they were.

I was going to thank OP for their careful and deliberate explanation of their username, as if he or she genuinely thought Mike Hunt wasn't a joke almost every single teenager knows, along with his mate Hugh Janus and all the others used on The Simpsons (and others) for decades.

It's probably the least necessary explanation I've seen on here and that's saying something as there are many very funny puns and plays on words.

I don’t think they’re unaware of it being a known joke…
