To be bemused by Radio 2 today?

Romesh Ranganathan show with Sally Traffic messing around and just talking all the time and not playing music? I don't want to listen to them chattering away as if there's no audience.

Other people like Michael Ball don't play their own songs.

I've never really thought it about I suppose. He's doing Love Songs, which is much, much broader than Musicals.
Anyway, she's annoying whether she plays her own song or not.
The one she played today (I know him so well) reminds me of being in 6th form and us belting it out so I am going to excuse her.

Personally think it would be mad to hire Elaine Paige to do a musicals slot and then her never play her own stuff, given that she was a massive star in musical theatre.

I think the show tunes slot is past its sell by date but goodness knows what would replace it going by recent changes.

It's a bit egotistical though isn't it. Not quite on a par with Elisabeth Schwartzkopf choosing seven of her own recordings for Desert Island Discs but same ballpark.

But I don’t think she plays herself particularly often. Probably less than someone else presenting a musicals show might!

Another show I have to avoid when EP is on. That false laugh is so annoying - did someone tell her it was cute once when she was 16 or something?

I didn’t mind the show so much when Michelle was presenting. I love her Friday evening show too.

I disagree. When they're a good DJ, I love listening to them talking. And I guess (playing devils advocate here) that if they only ever played music, there would be no need for the radio shows to even have DJs!

I do agree though about a lot of these. I like Sara Cox but "kids in a car" 😡and Romesh and Sally drive me mad too. Also, Vernon Kaye with his "janice, janine, jolene" schtick.

Although I suppose that all presenters have had their "thing" over the years. Terry Wogan with his TOGs and Janet and John, Steve Wright with "serious jockin, no G"....

These callers who are standing on a vibration (titter titter )plate on Scott Mills. No idea what they’re saying and it’s really messing with the bass or levels on the radio. Going right through me

I used to live Sounds of the ‘70’s when Johnny Walker was alive, but I can’t stand Bob Harris. Such a name dropper, he’s been everywhere and knows everyone. It’s so self indulgent it drives me mad!

I became so annoyed with Sally and RR 2 weeks ago that I wrote to complain. They were laughing right through the traffic bulletin so I couldn't understand what she was saying and it was actually about the road I was on. You can't say you are a public service broadcaster and then fluff the public service bit. I got a 'we've passed on your complaint to the show' and then nothing, no follow up and no improvement. And now I don't listen to the show at all. I'm obviously getting old.....

He does 4-7 on Greatest Hits Radio now! Come on over. It's glorious.

I was thinking about the state of BBC radio today. They keep saying they are worried about getting future generations to listen...but music experts say that younger people are listening to older music more than ever due to streaming.

I looked at the sounds app. There are 4 radio one variant, 2 radio three and four, 4 radio five. Yet the rest of the radio world...virgin, absolute, greatest hits have got 60,70,80,90s versions...why is the BBC so out of step with the rest of the industry.

This must be why they keep forcing kids to ring in all these shows. Romesh keeps having kids on "pitch your passion", Sara Cox with the fucking irritating "kids in a car".. there was even a random child playing the bastard tin whistle on the 5.40 game last night (encouraged by his insufferable mother).

I complained about Vernon and Ellie and got the same standard response.

I think Sara Cox would be better on kid's radio if it exists. She seems to focus a lot on kids, whether in a car or not.

Oh yes, fucking embarrassing on the all Friday request show...put Tarquin on...and Tarquin makes Sloth from the Goonies seem erudite.

I can't imagine there are many adults out there who want to listen to kids waffle on or play a musical instrument horrifically on their commute to or from work.
