Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

Why was the guy carrying a gun? We don’t yet know his background. We don’t know if he was a threat to just ICE or people around him. Had he started firing the gun indiscriminately and shot dead bystanders, then the rhetoric would be ‘why wasn’t he brought down when his gun was spotted’.

Anything else you want your imagination to include in your rubbish attempt to justify this murder?

We could be here all night...

You realise this wasn’t in the UK right? This is an open carry state in the US. People don’t get “brought down” because they’ve been spotted carrying a gun. It’s legal and people do it all the time.

Im not a fan of guns myself but to say that this murder was warranted because he had a gun in his pants is bollocks.

BlackCrowKing · 24/01/2026 23:44

DdraigGoch · 24/01/2026 23:41

People in the US often carry guns. It's not unusual. He had a licence to carry a concealed firearm and therefore was breaking no law. At no point did he threaten the agents, or even touch the gun.

I bet that whenever there's a school shooting you'd be the first to blather that "the second amendment is there to stop a tyrannical government".

Oh they’ll tell you in a minute that they aren’t American, nor are they a bot. They’re just curious about “hypocrisy”. Just the type to have been reporting their neighbours for harbouring Jews during WWII.

After graduating from Green Bay Preble High School, Alex Pretti attended the University of Minnesota, where he was listed as a "junior scientist" at the medical school.

He was an ICU nurse who obtained his license in 2021, and had worked for the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

He had a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in Minnesota.

And, even if we didn't know any of that, there would still be no excuse for what happened to him today, nor the plain and obvious lies (clearly contradicted by video evidence) coming out of the Trump administration today.

I doubt 77 million Americans voted for kidnapping and killing people in the street.

If you cannot see this is wrong then you're very much part of the problem.

No, let's not pretend. They did indeed vote for the kidnapping and/or killing of people on the streets. They just didn't expect that some of the people being kidnapped or killed would be white American citizens. As long as the people being pushed into unmarked cars or shot were brown and/or potentially non-citizens then they were absolutely fine with that.

Itstym · 24/01/2026 23:45

DdraigGoch · 24/01/2026 23:33

People are indeed dying in ICE detention. 32 people died in ICE custody last year. Those are just the ones we know about, of course. The conditions in these centres legally amount to torture.

That is heartbreaking and infuriating.

I can’t imagine how under threat and anxious people over there must feel.

Sadly I can’t visit the U.S. anytime soon then, especially while I’m still on this medication.

I go to the U.S. once a year normally, I love it there and have close friends in various states but I just can’t risk it right now.

DdraigGoch · 24/01/2026 23:45

@Alltheyellowbirds not forgetting that at the moment that he was shot, he hadn't been in possession of it for several seconds, one of the other ICE agents had taken it and stood clear. It's also worth noting that as his body is limp on the ground the agents keep firing. Something like another seven rounds.

This was murder.

Do you ever feel the need to take a long shower, or at least scrub your tongue, after you post?

Shame on you @Livelovebehappy
Take a look at the video posted on this thread from the angle of the woman in the pink jacket.

...And if that is still your America - where it's ok for 6 masked men to shoot an ICU nurse - if you think that's ok and that's their job - then you are a morally repugnant person.

NamefortheseThreads · 24/01/2026 23:46

Passingthrough123 · 24/01/2026 23:32

Where are they saying he had the gun? Because he was wearing such form fitting clothing that it surely would be visible in all the other footage if it was holstered under his jacket or in his waistband. I mean, they are claiming it was a semi-automatic handgun and two magazine rounds!

The White House has posted an absolutely batshit crazy post on their social media. Honestly, this guy has the nuclear codes 🤦‍♀️

Yes @Livelovebehappy - get your facts straight and stop being so gullible and stupid.

NamefortheseThreads · 24/01/2026 23:49

Livelovebehappy · 24/01/2026 23:12

People should really wait to hear the facts. We all know what happened when people were spouting nonsense in the immediate aftermath of the Renee shooting before the real story immersed. Why can’t people just stay away from the area where ICE are trying to carry out their job, and not interfere with the law enforcement process? The people there today were not protesting peacefully, but being violent and aggressive, which could have harmed the very people they claim they’re trying to protect. 77 million Americans voted for Trump to sort out illegal immigration. He’s carrying out what he was voted in to do.

Well, we all said that it appeared that Renee Good had been murdered, and we were right. And, oh look, they’ve done it again.

On the waiting for the facts… Trump’s already spewed this shit all over Facebook, so… facts optional, huh?

I think you’re not far off with the fetish thing for some… Plus a good old dose of brainwashing for a lot of them.

I mean, if it wasn’t so horrific, you’d have to laugh at the fact that Republicans are now saying that somebody shouldn’t have been legally carrying a gun... I can’t work out how they know how to get out of bed in the morning and clean their teeth.

There are some people who blithely thought that they were just going to deport "the worst of the worst", are horrified by what is happening, and are now acting to protect the vulnerable. I know that "there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents" but these people do also need to accept that their votes led to this.

Martinez, a devoted Christian, said she voted for President Donald Trump in the past three elections because of his hard-line stance against abortion and gender-affirming care for youth. The granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant supported deporting violent criminals and had not paid much attention to reports of family separations in the first Trump presidency.

But over the past two months, after watching videos of federal agents aggressively detaining her neighbors and working directly with children parted from their parents, she has changed her views.

Minneapolis residents shelter immigrant children separated from parents and sought by federal agents

As more than 2,000 federal agents surge in Minneapolis in an immigration crackdown and clash with protesters on the streets, countless residents are also quietly resisting the operation through grassroots networks sheltering and supporting immigrants.

It's a documented fact that certain countries (primarily Russia but they're not the only one) pay people on social media to push viewpoints that increase internal political polarisation and dissent in Western countries. There was Russian money behind Brexit and there was Russian money behind the rise of MAGA to name just two.

Thousands of the people doing this are directly and knowingly employed by the governments involved. Thousands more get money doing it but by less obvious and more deniable means. And many tens of thousands more are useful idiots who have been taken in my the first two categories and repeat the same talking points for free.

I don't understand what's going on, are ICE literally patrolling and removing people all over the place? What's happening to the people they remove?

Some of them die.
Most of them are quickly moved to other states so they can't easily be found or visited

Quoting Nazi German history to these people doesn’t help. Because they’re not educated enough to know what actually happened to start WWII.

As the saying goes those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

but those who half-remember it repeat it while insisting it’s different this time.”

These are literally the same people who criticise Churchill and FDR for fighting WW2 and not joining forces with Hitler instead. I don’t think comparing them to the Gestapo is going to upset them.

Itstym · 25/01/2026 00:09

A lot of Latinos voted for Trump and are now looking all shocked that their family /community members are being deported. Absurd. It’s a toxic mixture of stupidity, selfishness and short sightedness. They didn’t care about other people being treated poorly as long as it wasn’t their friends or family.

Also some of it was misogyny and antiblackness - they didn’t want to vote for a mixed race/Black woman.

Honestly I despair sometimes. As much as I love how friendly and personable people are in the U.S.are it has made me look at people over there differently. Just because they appear warm and kind it doesn’t mean they’re not voting Trump.

He was not holding his gun. He was killed after they had taken his gun away. Six thugs and lynchers who have been given a uniform murdered one defenceless man.

CJsGoldfish · 25/01/2026 00:12

This makes it very clear WHY they are targeting the states they are targeting and the lies they are telling to justify it. Of course, the lack of critical thinking in the supporters of the regime make is far too easy.

This was behind a paywall but you can easily read it with https://www.removepaywall.com/

Basically, only 13% of Minnesotas estimated 495,352 immigrant population are undocumented. A very small percentage when compared to red states which, unsurprisingly, are not being targeted in this way.

Jesus wept. An ICU nurse. Murder. Outright murder.

It’s f-ing horrific. What has America become. Its National ‘government’ is so far removed from the America we (in the U.K.) used to see on tv 15/20 years ago. And completely at odds with the local government in states like Minnesota that are trying to calmly and legally run civil society for their citizens.

Trump is killing people for his own agenda.

I agree. Battlefronts in blue cities play right into the Republicans’ hands. They’re already making statements on Fox News baying for it.
