Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

The only question that matters is why you are trying to justify and excuse state officials murdering people in the street?

To celebrate and normalise it

Statement from Alex Pretti's parents -

"We are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.

I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."

Meanwhile, border control commander Greg Bovino -
"The victim, the victims are the Border Patrol agents"

Greg Bovino's name is so appropriate. Because he's absolutely full of bull shit.

I think that whatever the problems with ICE and their mistakes the amount of fearmongering over Trump being a dictator is hyperbolic.
He has frequently talked about Vance or Rubeo being his successors and there's no reason to believe that he will not leave.

"Mistakes"? Cold blooded murder (twice) is not a "mistake".

He has frequently talked about Vance or Rubeo being his successors
Trump is just the puppet. The people with the real power are the likes of Peter Thiel and Steven Miller. When he carks it (he's 79 and in poor health) sure, Vance will replace him. That doesn't stop him from being a dictator, and it certainly won't stop Vance - who is just as evil, but not as stupid as Trump - from being a dictator too.

there's no reason to believe that he will not leave.
He didn't exactly leave without a fight last time.

I think it's helpful, putting blame where it belongs

Why don't other states and cities have the same problem with ICE removing those there illegally? Why is it only Minneapolis with the Gov Walz and sidekick mayor whipping up hate and unrest?

Los Angeles had an ICE invasion and protested. Chicago had an ICE invasion and protested. Portland had an ICE invasion and protested (pictured). Maine is now suffering from an ICE invasion too.

Just because you weren't paying attention (and no white people were murdered by ICE) doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

Also, isn't it weird that these are democrat held states when the numbers of undocumented migrants are much higher in Florida and Texas. It's almost as if it is politically motivated....

Those there legally have been taken to be questioned and returned home. They have not been 'disappearing them to camps', only deporting those there illegally.

Why are you lying when it is so easily disproved?. The five year old and his father who were taken recently are in the US legally but are now in a camp in Texas where no one can contact them.

DdraigGoch · 25/01/2026 18:39

expatme · 25/01/2026 17:24

But can you admit that you were wrong about the photo being discredited? Because that's it's real is not an opinion. It's a fucking fact.

I'd have a lot more respect for these regime apologists if they could admit they still hold their (shameful, imo) opinions, which is valid, but they can accept that a fact is an actual, provable thing.

I've noticed over the last few weeks that certain posters have been finding it more and more difficult to defend ICE. As time goes on there are more incidents that make even them hesitate.

Renee was murdered, and they were all "domestic terrorist, FAFO...".

Some teenage US citizens were abducted from their workplace and beaten up before being dumped miles away, and those posters went "I don't like that, but...".

Now Alex has been murdered and they are really struggling to argue now, they'll change the subject to anything else ("fraud...illegals...") to avoid it.

Even the Second Amendment cultists have woken up, they've realised that if the government can use a liberal's legally held gun as an excuse to execute them, that opens the door to governments restricting all gun use. They've clearly worked out the meaning of the poem:

First they came for the Ecuadorians
And I did not speak out
Because I was not from Ecuador

Then they came for the brown citizens
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a brown citizen

Then they came for the white liberals
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a liberal

Then they came for the gun owners
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

It's not Tim Walz and Jacob Frey who are whipping up hatred and unrest. It's Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi who are making up lies to discredit the innocent victims who have been murdered by ICE.

Even the NRA have a problem with Alex Pretti's murder.

This is what is very worrying. If they don’t mind murdering people in full public view what might they be doing behind closed doors?

Has Liam Ramos, the 5 year old little boy with the hat with bunny ears and the Spider Man backpack been returned home? Last I heard was that he was in a detention camp in Texas.

It is unclear whether he has been allowed to stay with his father, or whether the little boy is imprisoned alone.

He is the fourth child in his school district to have been seized by ICE agents.

If you condone this, you have well and truly lost your moral compass.

How do you know they’ve been returned home? You think that these thugs who blithely murder people in broad daylight aren’t unaliving people behind closed doors? Black people over here aren’t particularly safe in police custody, never mind over there.

So if you are snatched from the street by unidentified, armed men, who don’t care to see your ID, if you have it or they believe it’s genuine, or that you’re a citizen, and taken to some godforsaken detention centre, no phone call, no lawyer…

you’re fine with that? Cos it’ll be sorted in a few days and you’ll be kicked back out on the street, no apology, and likely without your phone.

that’s ok?

I have to say, at least he’s gone no comment and said what happened will emerge after an investigation.

still think he’s an SS throwback, but on this occasion that’s the correct thing to do.

it’s what Trump an puppy killer should have done instead of screaming about armed terrorists and intent to kill all the brave ICE agents…

A different opinion is not misinformation some of you need to accept that. And no I'm not a 'naziiiiii!!!!!!!' before that one is thrown at me in a desperate attempt to shut me up.

Misinformation is the sharing of incorrect information without malicious intent. Disinformation is the malicious intent to share incorrect information. Many of us share misinformation rather accidentally about a number of mundane things. Misinformation doesn’t need to be politically motivated and can essentially be spread through things lost in translation. So yes, a difference of opinion can often be misinformation. You really need to accept that.

The US government is sharing false information with malicious intent for a political advantage. That is disinformation. If you are taking part in the spreading of disinformation, that is much worse than misinformation because there is malicious intent behind it.

Staggering isn't it? They're saying the quiet part out loud, and you still get people pretending this is about immigration control.

There are concerns today that there is a protest happening inside that detention center. While, I can completely understand why they might be protesting, it must be terrifying for that little boy if he’s in there. Hearing the sounds coming from within the walls, from an observer outside, is incredibly upsetting. It feels like a concentration camp.

At the end of her letter, where she demands full access to voter rolls, Medicaid, food stamp databases and for sanctuary state laws to be rolled back. She says:

I am confident that these simple steps will help bring back law and order to Minnesota and improve the lives of Americans.

I mean… is that blackmail? We will stop killing your citizens if you stand down and give us this information.

Reporting on the protest inside the ICE facility where they believe the five year-old boy is held. It includes information on how they are allegedly cutting off Internet access and preventing attorney visits.

I’d like to say they’re not, but American schooling has widely been known to be sub-par for the western world for a long time. This is the outcome now. They drink the kool-aid and believe it’s good for them.

Republicans have worked hard to defund public schools in the states that they control, and as most funding is raised through local property taxes this disproportionately affects poorer people. Those people are then easy targets for Fox propaganda.

The school textbooks in Texas are riddled with propaganda too. They had a creationist chairing the Texas State Board of Education which vetted the textbooks allowed to be used by all public schools in the state. The US Civil War (where the south fought to keep slavery) becomes "The War of Northern Aggression". One passage in a "history" text book claiming that the US was alone on D-Day.

Here's a NYT comparison of several passages between the Texas and California editions of the same textbooks:

Not even kicked back onto the street. ICE have been dropping severely injured people into the middle of frozen woodland in the dead of night. It appears that the depths of their cruelty know no limits.
