Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

No they should be as some of the illegal people are indeed violent criminals. Walz and co need to tell the locals to stand down, ICE are active in many places and it's only Minneapolis they seem to have such a carry on with agitators.

Because they are taking legal immigrants, children and families and disappearing them to camps miles away. Taking them from cars leaving the abandoned car in the street.
Should people just ignore it when friends and neighbours are going missing. Where is the line the sand?

I think that whatever the problems with ICE and their mistakes the amount of fearmongering over Trump being a dictator is hyperbolic.
He has frequently talked about Vance or Rubeo being his successors and there's no reason to believe that he will not leave.

Fear-mongering? No, we can just stick to the facts to show the hideousness of the situation. You’d have to be either naïve in the extreme, or in favour of his aims, to think any exaggeration is needed with Trump‘s current behaviour.

There’s a very graphic video on X, no car, no weapon drawn, at least 6 ICE agents beating him on the floor and then one gets their gun and shoots him.

There is a very graphic video on the BBC.

Those there legally have been taken to be questioned and returned home. They have not been 'disappearing them to camps', only deporting those there illegally.

It is an absolutely genuine picture as it was a frame taken from one of the videos which were shot. In fact if you watch the video taken by the lady in the pink coat, you will see the shot for yourself.
The US government is saying that he was ‘brandishing a gun’ which is a complete lie, so I guess they are happy to try to discredit this picture as well

I’d be careful there, Gloria has just had me deleted for suggesting she’s posting misinformation… 😆

I haven’t reported any of the misinformation I’ve seen from a small but persistent contingent of posters on this thread, because I think it’s a good example of how Trump is getting away with what he’s getting away with.

Each time they post these things we can refute with facts so they’re useful in this way. I’m assuming MN isn’t aware of that when they’re deleting people pointing these inaccuracies out. I’d like to believe that anyway.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 25/01/2026 17:16

Americans - is the whole point of the damn second amendment so your government cannot just shoot you in the street?

They are literally shooting you in the street. What the fuck is happening?

Why don't other states and cities have the same problem with ICE removing those there illegally? Why is it only Minneapolis with the Gov Walz and sidekick mayor whipping up hate and unrest?

Gloriia · 25/01/2026 17:17

Why don't other states and cities have the same problem with ICE removing those there illegally? Why is it only Minneapolis with the Gov Walz and sidekick mayor whipping up hate and unrest?

Because it's a blue state. Florida has a far greater number of undocumented immigrants but ICE isn't going to round up people in a state where the majority of voters are Republican. And Walz put his head above the parapet when he went on the ticket with Kamala.

Bloozie · 25/01/2026 17:22

Wow. People willing to stick their neck above the parapet and publicly defend ICE despite the clear sequence of events shown from multiple angles in videos, and in full sight of the laws around lawful gun carry, when it is appropriate for officers to use lethal force, and the rights to both protest and record law enforcement.

Shame on you all.

If it is not safe to exercise your lawful right to protest, or exercise your lawful right to carry a weapon, then you are not living in a free country. A government using force to suppress opposition is a fascist government. And look at all your craven lickspittle apologists, welcoming it with open arms.

Fucking shame on every single one of you. This is no longer about immigration control or getting dangerous criminals of the streets and the fact you still think it is shows how quite frankly stupid too many people are. This is state-mandated suppression of opposing voices - note how ICE aren’t out in force and killing civilians in red states like Florida, where there are far higher levels of immigration. Right now the government is executing people that don’t agree with them in the street. When it happens in any other country, right-minded people oppose it. That any of you are defending it, is mind-blowing to me. You really swallowed the Kool-Aid.

Try a little thought exercise. Try holding the following paragraph in your heads.

Uncontrolled immigration is bad. Criminals on the streets is bad. Shooting unarmed protestors without just cause is also bad. Protest is legal. Carrying a gun in Minnesota is also legal. Shooting a civilian that showed no intent to use that gun after you’ve taken it from him anyway is illegal.

A different opinion is not misinformation some of you need to accept that. And no I'm not a 'naziiiiii!!!!!!!' before that one is thrown at me in a desperate attempt to shut me up.

But can you admit that you were wrong about the photo being discredited? Because that's it's real is not an opinion. It's a fucking fact.

I'd have a lot more respect for these regime apologists if they could admit they still hold their (shameful, imo) opinions, which is valid, but they can accept that a fact is an actual, provable thing.

ietsfrans · 25/01/2026 17:25

ICE are shooting to kill citizens at close range, execution style. Trump was humiliated in recent days. His team is looking to distract from that, as all that makes Donald look weak.

The regime haven't got the numbers to target all of the blue states (or more specifically the major cities that those states revolve around) at once. So they've hit them one or two at a time. Los Angeles. Portland & Chicago. And now the Twin Cities and Maine

And yet most ICE arrests are in Texas and Florida, because local law enforcement support ICE.

The Minnesota Governor was Kamala Harris's running mate in the 2024 Presidential Election so it's personal for the regime

Well Walz’s career is over. Fraud is too much.

During covid some dodgy nonprofits were allocated funds for providing meals to vulnerable children. It was a fraud, it got investigated, they got prosecuted. There was no evidence to suggest that Minnesota officials were in any way corrupt

AG Keith Ellison received money from Feeding our Future as a campaign donation. Just prior he had a meeting with some reps where they asked him to get state agencies off their backs, that they were being racist for trying to investigate their finances.

kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/ellison-pushes-back-after-secret-audio-tapes-posted-online/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Lots of countries had these sort of issues during the pandemic, funds were sent out without proper checks being made, think PPE in the UK

250 million stolen just in one state, just in one scam.

The ringleader of the scam was a white woman, but many of those also convicted were Somali-American

Bock was the only white person, and her Somali boyfriend was a huge part of the scam, funny how you call out the one white person verses the 80 Somalis involved.

And yes, most Somalis are legal. They are still disproportionately involved in these scams.

A far-right Youtuber posted a video on Boxing Day last year alleging widespread fraud in Minnesota daycare centres. There was no evidence to suggest that many of his claims were true

You really expect us to believe the ‘Quality Learing Center’ was legit? Really?

It is not just the daycares, but the autism centers and the home health centers. Fake invoices, fake clients, and a climate where investigations into it was seen as ‘racist’

Here is a very neutral take on it from NYT https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/29/us/fraud-minnesota-somali.html

Trump has grifted over a billion in the last year alone. How many government contracts has Elon been given?

I’d like to say they’re not, but American schooling has widely been known to be sub-par for the western world for a long time. This is the outcome now. They drink the kool-aid and believe it’s good for them.

Oh, yeah, you tell yourself that.

If they're murdering people in broad daylight in front of crowds of witnesses, I'm sure they're treating the detainees very fairly behind closed doors.

Have you not read any of the accounts from people who have been held? Actually, I don't know why I'm asking. If it's longer than 5 words and not on Fox or X or GB News or one of the fact-free outlets so beloved by Trump acolytes, it won't be familiar to you.

No, he was clearing the weapon, you remove the magazine, cock the weapon, inspect the chamber and then dry fire the weapon. The guy in the grey coat was doing that whilst walking away. Another border patrol officer was the one that opened fire.

A point to note, it is usual if you have justification to open fire (he didn't), you would almost always "double tap" when opening fire. You fire two shots and assess. Even if there was justification, the firer shot ten rounds. In a fair system it would be very hard to justify the last 8 rounds. I'm guessing the officer panicked and blazes away like billy oh. In that case he should be sacked for being incapable. In this case it was murder.

If I was the shooters colleagues, I would not be very happy with him. He fired ten rounds at close quarters when the target was surrounded by his colleagues. I'd be slapping him round the head

I doubt that he was panicking. Like Jonathan Ross, this appears to have been motivated by sheer rage.

The average reading age in the uk is between 9-11 and the average reading age in the US 12-14

It's mind boggling

Yep. Pam Bondi‘s referring to ‘fraudsters’ is quite hilarious. She’s obviously not stupid though, so must be in full awareness of what she’s doing.

Yes also I think some of them are, horrifyingly, just having a fine old time finally being able to do whatever the fuck they want.

This time though, the US government is encouraging them, though, rather than sending their ‘thoughts and prayers.’

There should be a curfew implemented in Minneapolis to keep the population off the streets when ICE are performing the role that they’ve been employed to do. This will stop unnecessary confrontations and interference. The Mayor has lost control, and needs to be replaced by someone competent who ensures the safety of everyone on the streets. The whole place has sunk into anarchy. Just stay at home fgs. Don’t drive through areas which are highly charged, to photo, confront and abuse people employed in a legal capacity to carry out their job.

No, there should be a curfew to keep ICE off of the streets while residents are there living their lives.

ICE can fuck off back to the shithole bible-bashing red states they came from.

Why shouldn't people take photographs of the things they are doing? If ICE are following the law then what are they afraid of? What would they want to hide?

DdraigGoch · 25/01/2026 17:40

Gloriia · 25/01/2026 15:03

Just awful. In such a volatile situation though even if I had a permit I certainly wouldn't attend a 'peaceful' protest with a loaded weapon and once reprimanded I'd stay still with my hands on my head. That's what Walz and co need to be telling the locals.

Yes it is of course horrific but stay still, follow instructions and then everyone's intentions will be clear.

He didn't have a loaded weapon when he was murdered. It had already been removed. He was pinned down by six officers, he was in no position to do anything. He had just been trying to help up a female bystander who had been ruthlessly attacked by the thugs. His last words were checking if the woman was OK.

The only question that matters is why you are trying to justify and excuse state officials murdering people in the street?

It says a lot about you.
