Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

"Decent people having differing views is fine.
People voting for violent fascists is not."
It's a shame that you seem incapable of making this distinction."

The whole point of democracy is that people can vote for whomever they want albeit Certain parties may be banned legally from standing.

Certain people may tell themselves they are intellectually superior to others and be the arbiters of what is difference of opinion and who are" violent fascists "but at the end of the day" the American people voted for trump and his policies, and did not do so in the belief they are "violent fascists".

Yes. DH just said that he needs to find a way to dispense with the midterms.

I say it on a loop to anyone who will listen, but I believe that America has seen its last free and fair presidential election for a long time.

The US hasn't seen free and fair elections in a very long time (if ever).

So you are

Anti-Immigration
Anti-Abortion
Anti-Free Speech
Pro-violence against protestors
Pro-Mass deportation

…I’m sure we can guess the rest of the list.

And doesn't live in the US, so is an immigrant - oh, sorry, expat.

100% of people at my laptop voted for @RingoJuice to go away. So it must happen. The person has spoken.

Nobody has yet explained just how Renée Good was going to kill him with her car. Even if she was driving straight at him, he was already really close to the bonnet. I had a car reverse out of car parking space in Tesco, hit me at a greater distance and it didn’t even push me over. I got a couple of bruises. Car she was driving, about 0-60 in 10 seconds and he shot her about 2 seconds after she started moving, it would have been going no speed at all.
She couldn’t have killed him even if she wanted to.

You can fall under the wheel of the car, get run over and/or get dragged. Her wife and the other ICE agent still had their hands on the car, they both could have been dragged.

She was being reckless AT BEST

The male protestor seems like he wasn’t really doing anything

boo fucking hoo

They cover their faces, obscure their identities and act like thugs and outlaws.
They deserve the doxing (but not threats, especially to their families)

There is a rule of law, or there isn't

Well it just begs the question- how are they organised and doesn't there need to be a much more intelligent solution to world problems. You might as well try and stop the tide, as try to stop people moving around. I agree with immigration regulations and enforcement but all enforcement has its limits.

We don’t catch and release ‘asylum seekers’
its just mopping up Joe Biden’s mess.

If the asylum seekers were housed at these facilities while awaiting their case, then it wouldn’t have been an issue. No pull factor to LATAM either. Obama understood this.

Where are you getting anti-abortion?

I am very, very pro-choice.

And I was supporting those pro-lifers being jailed because they literally chained themselves to a clinic door. That is not ok

Where are you getting anti-abortion? Because you voted for a man who promised to appoint judges to overturn Roe vs Wade way back in 2016...

Not sure you can be very, very pro-choice and vote for "the most pro-life president in history"

if i were trying to address immigration seriously?

I would stop all immigration and handle the backlog of applications.

I wouldn't just send in a bunch of right-wing thugs in masks and no identifying masks to do waht they like against low-hanging fruit.

It’s actually just illegals. And they’ve no right to be in America.

Yes, they are being targeted because they REFUSE TO LEAVE.

It actually isn’t “just illegals”… it’s also people who have every right to be in the USA.

Really, that’s your argument. Do you know anything about cars at all? It takes speed and motion to drive over a speed bump for example, she had neither. Just how was she going to drive over a body, maybe a dead body but not a person who could, you know, move.
and just show me how the others could be dragged by having hands on car, again not possible. This ICE Agent was dragged by a car before, but that was because he has smashed the back window of a car and was reaching in to drive to get the driver and the driver drove off.
Perhaps if the Ice Agent had just stood there and she knocked him down and then reversed backwards and forwards over him, you might have an argument for murder, but I’m fairly sure she wasn’t going to that, she just wanted to get away.

sugarapplelane · 25/01/2026 11:24

But the holocaust started like this. ICE are like the brown shirts. Hitler’s ruffians.

Yes - the next steps are to massively expand ICE whilst creating a more controlled private bodyguard for Trump, then someone close to Trump to point out that ICE could potentially also take him out as leader now they are so big, then the leaders of ICE to be arrested or 'accidentally' killed resisting arrest, then fortunately it turns out that this leaked page of 'the Epstein files' say they were all Bad People anyway so we will never talk of them again and ICE is slightly reduced as a sop.
The search terms are "Kristallnacht" and "Night of the Long Knives".

I disagree with pretty much everything Ringo says, on stands for. Ringo is my opposite in most areas politically, but that includes abortion.

Ringo is very pro-life, although generally very right-wing. I'm the opposite. I remember this from a previous thread a week or two ago.

In the same way, it's possible for me to be pro more restrictions on abortions (not to the current republican level in America though), but that I'd also vote democrat, it's possible to be pro-choice and still vote republican. They aren't single issue parties.

If you are pro-choice, or pro-womens rights I struggle to see how you vote Republican. Their laws have led to women bleeding to death after being refused basic medical care.

Can I ask... when looking at the Renee Good video do you think if you were the ICE agent you could have thought she was driving towards you with all the behaviour that I described and in the circumstances that she was in.

She was reversing away from him when he drew his weapon. The shot that killed her was through the side window - how is it possible to shoot someone driving towards you through a side window?

Quite apart from from the fact that shooting the driver of a moving car resulted in them slumping on the controls and accelerating. If he really had been in harm's way then he made things more dangerous for himself.

Nanny0gg · 25/01/2026 12:01

RingoJuice · 25/01/2026 11:00

ICE needs to be left alone to do their job.

Unlike with Renee Good (who did put an ICE agent at risk) it seems that there was no reason to shoot. I don’t celebrate this, but we need to ensure public safety. I think the National Guard should be called in, because of course ICE cannot do their job under these conditions (though I believe it was Border Patrol in this case)

If your response to this is ‘Stop Ice’ I can’t take you seriously. If your idea is ‘how can ICE do better?’ then I’m all ears.

A good place to start is by hitting employers and landlords.

But murder and intimidation are not their job

Making unsuitable candidates ICE agents is wrong

And when all this is over, they will never recover their reputation

There are pro-choice Republicans. And believe me. I was pissed Trump wasted a SCOTUS pick on the pro-life lobby, ACB has been a terrible choice.

That's not really for me to answer is it? You could post me the question -how can you be pro-life and back a party who would (In my opinion) be okay with killing babies, but reality is there's really a political party where you agree with everything. Thankfully I'm not American, and it's all academic. I'm a labour supporter even though I'm worried about their view on women's rights. It's often picking the best of a bad bunch rather than slavishly agreeing with everything a party believes in.

Once again @Mumsnetis deleting posts that do nothing other than call out minimisation of what is happening in America.

What do your moderators actually stand for, Mumsnet? Is it a free pass on using this site to justify extrajudicial murder, and if not, why aren't you deleting any of the posts abusing the memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Goode?

You have absolutely lost it in terms of moderation policy on these threads. Shame on you.
