Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

"Times have changed indeed
Just 6 years ago these guys were saying they couldn't breathe while wearing a mask. Now they can't execute American citizens and beat up migrants without one 🤷‍♀️"

Don't know what you are on about

John McCain died in 2018 and Obama was pictured in mask many times. To my knowledge neither "beat up migrants".

Ironic that I made a point that politicians used to respect each other and you responded by defaming a dead man for cheap point scoring

Ironically your response to the OP shows you have little understanding of Irony.

I find it so ironic that last year was the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust. Talk about history repeating itself.

This is how it starts…..

Not focussing on Renee at all. I’m talking about the subject of this thread - the guy had a gun. He was clearly there not to peacefully protest, but to harm someone if given the opportunity. Clearly wasnt carrying a gun to defend himself as he was the aggressor in the situation. The Mayor, who is very much against ICE, even admitted that the protest today had got out of hand.

Huh? If you are legally carrying a holstered gun you are an aggressor?

That makes a significant minority of Americans constant ‘aggressors’ then in any situation on any day.

Have you ever been to Texas? Go to lunch anywhere a you’re surrounded by people openly carrying, in accordance with state law.

Presumably it would be ok for ICE to walk in and shoot first then? Given that almost everyone in the room would be an aggressor.

They are following the rule of law. We voted for mass deportations, our Congress voted for fund them.

They. Are. Not.

They are required to be identifiable by badge number.
They are not allowed to enter a premises without a legally executed warrant

They are not allowed to shoot an unarmed, restrained man on the ground.

Added to all the bullshit they are perpetrating on the real natives of your country.

I understand you. You are scared. Not sure what of, exactly, but clearly you are petrified. But you have to observe the rule of law.

But well done, you just make our case for us. You have absolutely zip in terms of justification.

It’s like when you watch grainy old footage from 1930/40s Germany, of Jewish people being paraded through the street, beaten, murdered, and their body left in the gutter, surrounded by bystanders and onlookers.

We can sit here and say “why did those people stand by whilst those atrocities were happening” in some sort of disbelief … but now the same is happening in the US, and we start to understand why those people stood round and did nothing. protesting against the regime gets you summarily executed.

It’s a small step for the USA now, to become an Authoritarian regime, and when they stop going after the illegal immigrants, it will be the dissidents, the liberals, the “left wing”, the intellectuals (see Hitler, Stalin, Mao).

I’m with you, I’m in the UK, so you do what you can from here.. I also have family in Minnesota, and I want them out.

It must be very frightening to watch if you have family in Minnesota. I hope that they stay safe. Flowers

I will admit that I have been guilty of wondering why the American people are not doing more to resist. But you're right, it's easy to say from afar.

Renee Good and Alex Pretti have both lost their lives trying to peacefully resist. We should respect their bravery.

ICE needs to be left alone to do their job.

Unlike with Renee Good (who did put an ICE agent at risk) it seems that there was no reason to shoot. I don’t celebrate this, but we need to ensure public safety. I think the National Guard should be called in, because of course ICE cannot do their job under these conditions (though I believe it was Border Patrol in this case)

If your response to this is ‘Stop Ice’ I can’t take you seriously. If your idea is ‘how can ICE do better?’ then I’m all ears.

A good place to start is by hitting employers and landlords.

Is ICE's job to violently detain anyone they fancy, treat them as sub human, ignore evidence that citizens they are detaining are not "illegal", traumatise children and ignore due process behind the veil of anonymity and dubiously conferred "immunity" ?

Because that is what they're doing, and that is what people are fighting back against.

I have long suspected that immigration policy in the Western world has been engineered to stoke hatred and division and set the stage for tighter control of the population. Call me a conspiracy theorist, because that's the easy cop out, but destabilising poor countries via military action and economic skullduggery on any number of allegedly "noble" pretexts while siphoning off resources and letting dictators run roughshod over their own people was only going to lead to displacement of people fearing for their lives and using any means possible to escape. And those people will be a mixed bag because humanity is a mixed bag. But the genuinely vulnerable vastly outnumber the willfully criminal and don't deserve to be collateral damage in conflicts not of their making. And nobody deserves to be brutalised full stop.

What is the point of laws, justice systems and due process if they can be overthrown in a fit of pique by people brainwashed by ideologies that seek only to feather the nests of a deranged elite who do not see "others" as human.

And the biggest joke of all is every time "God" gets invoked, and "Christianity" because everything OT seems to be the core, as opposed to NT teachings. I'm not religious but alot of the fundamentalists claim to be and the hypocrisy is breathtaking.

And now the results coming to a street near you.

I don't think Jesus coming with a sword was supposed to be taken literally, and how does one turn the other cheek when the vulnerable are slaughtered?

I'm in combative mood as today is the 4th anniversary of the death of the love of my life. I can feel him spinning in his grave, a hunt sab, a CND member, a champion of the "alternative" community, with many friends in the US and a passion for the country and its culture, including its indigeonous history.

So take me on if you please, a grieving, raging widow mourning not just for herself but for humanity itself and at the end of the line with the horrors of the world. I'm not looking for sympathy, I'm looking for justice. And ultimately peace. For everyone.

You aren’t allowed to obstruct federal agents however.

They can assemble somewhere else, perhaps a federal building.

We went through this with pro-lifers, and we jailed some. You can understand why! Their objections do not outweigh the public interest

So you are

Anti-Immigration
Anti-Abortion
Anti-Free Speech
Pro-violence against protestors
Pro-Mass deportation

Yes I am being critical because as established he underestimated the situation...as I had as well. This does not mean I blame him, or think he deserved to be shot. But the people he went up against are poorly trained and I would also assume under huge pressure themselves.

We have to think of another way, the only way to do that is to be critical of events so we get the facts.

I have rarely seen such an astounding failure of logic in one post.

it is an amazing assertion.

MAGA in open carry states standing at ice-cream counters with an AR15 casually slung over their shoulder are exercising their 2nd amendment rights.

But someone with a permit and a carefully holstered handgun is an aggressor?

As we said previously: when the NRA are criticising you, you really need to rethink your life chioces.

This is the level of argument we have. Everything we say that criticises those thugs is met with this bullshit.

"Yes, and shame on every single despicable one of them."

This reminds me of when John Mcain was at a rally or similar and one of his supporters started badmouthing Obama. He pulled her up on it, saying he was a decent man who had differing views on certain areas....

Times have certainly changed.

Decent people having differing views is fine.

People voting for violent fascists is not.

It's a shame that you seem incapable of making this distinction.

Reminder that Kyle Rittenhouse showed up to a protest like this and the Republican/MAGA lot called him a hero.

Amazing how cowardly and spineless the "don't tread on me" crowd actually are.

Didn't just show up, but killed two people and wounded a third.

Yes, they are being targeted because they REFUSE TO LEAVE.

We've been through this on other threads. I've posted links showing the similarities to the Holocaust.

In the instance of the father and child who were lifted were legally claiming asylum and they did have a right.

What's happening is that ICE appear to be randomly targeting people which ISN'T legal.

Asylum seekers do not have to be living in the community. They can be at a government facility and be heard by an immigration judge there.

This was the practice under Obama. So they can have their case heard and then probably get rejected. Because they are from Ecuador, so it’s very unlikely to be accepted

Also to add that I recall pro-lifers in the UK getting jailed for crossing the buffer zone.

Similarly, there should be some sort of buffer zone for ICE agents, they cannot do their job when surrounded by protestors (I know that’s the point, they don’t want ICE to do their job, but they cannot obstruct operations in this way)

I suggest you read up on.. the Fraud investigation dates back to 2020, and around 50 people have already been convicted. The person who masterminded the whole thing was a white, American woman who is currently in Prison

The claims were rehashed (with no new evidence) by a right-wing, anti-immigration you-tuber, which gave Trump the excuse he needed to go into Minnesota.. mainly because it’s a Democrats state, and he doesn’t like Tim Waltz - I do still believe though, that this is about distracting people from the Epstein Files, and distracting people from the Trillions of dollars that Trump cronies are taking out of the county - including those making money from ICE activities, such as the private prison providers. Private transport providers etc .

So the Fraud has been, and continues to be investigated. It was a convenient hook for Trump to hang his “anti-immigration” crack down on

That's a good summation.

And the federal prosecutor who was actually the person who prosecuted, and was continuing to prosecute, the fraud cases, resigned due to the government's actions over Renee Good.

So, just maybe, it's not really about the fraud.

Well no, it’s not about the fraud here because most Somalians are actually legal. It’s a different kind of problem. I shared the link to the NYT earlier so you can understand the depth of the fraud. It’s bad.

But this ICE operation targets illegal aliens, as well as asylum seekers (who mostly have no case for asylum and they can be more quickly processed at dedicated facilities, a la Obama)

AliceandOscar · 25/01/2026 11:41

Nobody has yet explained just how Renée Good was going to kill him with her car. Even if she was driving straight at him, he was already really close to the bonnet. I had a car reverse out of car parking space in Tesco, hit me at a greater distance and it didn’t even push me over. I got a couple of bruises. Car she was driving, about 0-60 in 10 seconds and he shot her about 2 seconds after she started moving, it would have been going no speed at all.
She couldn’t have killed him even if she wanted to.
