Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

No, I don't think they're mutually exclusive. But it does make it harder for the Trump administration to frame it as him being an undesirable who had it coming (although ICE could execute Jesus on the street tomorrow and the cult would fall in line).

What's your evidence that he was whipped up by extremist rhetoric?

From the videos he's filming the protest/ICE (perfectly legal) then goes to the aid of two women (who were also not acting aggressively but were being pepper sprayed). He's then beaten, disarmed (not that there's any indication he was doing anything other than exercising his legal right to carry a gun - something the American right has prioritised consistently, even when it's led to the murder of countless children) and shot in the street.

It is not illegal to protest. It is not illegal to protest whilst carrying a gun (same as in the states it is not illegal to go buy milk carrying a gun, or got to a yoga class carrying a gun).

If you think any of Alex Pretti's actions are in any way domestic terrorism (which you imply by not knowing what the 'threshold is' then I don't know what to say.

Yes you are right it is a challenge, but Trump only has 2 speeds "off" or "full blast". That is why we have to be careful about jumping to any conclusions because there will be a point where they do tell the truth and then it makes everyone question themselves.

I used "normal guy whipped up by the internet" as a way of describing why someone would be at a protest where there are law-enforcement officers who could use lethal force as oppose to thinking they were a domestic terroist.

So you’re blaming both recent shooting victims because they were there? Just so we’re clear? You think by being in the vicinity of ICE agents they deserved to be shot and killed in the street?

God fucking help humanity. I hope we’re hit by a mass extinction event. We’re fucked.

So now you have reviewed the footage, and accept that he didn’t pish anyone, what is you take on last night,

I see a man who is protecting a woman being peppered sprayed by un-uniformed people, who then dive on him.

What happens in the huddle I still don't know. Hopefully there will be some better footage.

I don't know why the protestors/ICE are any where near each other in the first place. I don't know why escalation has happened and desecalation techniques by the law enforcement either didn't happen or didn't work.

NamefortheseThreads · 25/01/2026 08:40

2021x · 25/01/2026 08:23

From the video I saw Alex Petty strike a woman to the ground- I have no idea who she is.

Then he is jumped on to what I assume are at least 3 ICE officers- then the footage is taken from much further away and is really grainy. I can't tell who is doing what, I can't even tell who is who as they are all dressed the same.

WTF. It’s as clear as day that the ICE officer aggressively pushed the woman to the ground and Alex Petti helped her up - he was then pepper sprayed, and then you know what happens next. The woman reports that the last words he said to her was asking whether she was ok.

You know what I’ve just been watching? A video of him reading the last salute to one of the veterans who died at the hospital where he works. The son of the veteran said that he couldn’t imagine sharing this video, but decided to do so to show the respect and compassion Alex had shown to them in a difficult time. This is the man you are making shit up about after he has been executed.

Question, if you picture who you were five years ago, could you imagine saying the kinds of things you’re saying now?

Perhaps you’re right that it’s irrelevant he’s a nurse, really. Because whoever he was and whatever he did, he wouldn’t have deserved to be executed in the street by his own government. But we hope that these details will help to humanise people to those struggling to find compassion, not working for you though?

Are you just making up videos now? Have you actually watched them? Have you read the witness statements that have been released where witnesses say they didn't see him be aggressive, he was trying to help up two women who had been pepper sprayed?

I honestly don't see how you can state this in good faith. It's very clear whose side you're on despite your claims otherwise.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

Yet many posters have watched the same videos of the Renee Good incident and interpret it differently or disagree over the what the videos show or which "evidence of eyes and ears" should be trusted and which not.

In this case, the videos I've seen shows he was clearly shot while incapacitated and unarmed.

However, there are quite a few videos suggesting that the agent who removed his legally carried gun then took it out of its holster and in doing so caused a " negligent discharge" prompting other officers to open fire.

More evidence will present itself in the days ahead no doubt.

They’re armed, state mandated thugs. That’s it.

If I had walked in front of a stationary car, my first reaction would be to jump away from it when it started moving. You are depicting this as if she was accelerating towards him, which of course is absolute nonsense.

Is that the norm or has it changed recently?

Basic police training in the UK is 90 days. If they are only doing one aspect of that it would make sense that it was half?

Also I am assuming they are recuriting the "heavies" i.e. people who can handle highly volatile environments, so may the bar has to be low.

Sounds plausible, thank you. Still cynical, but I'm not au fait with such protocol, so thank you for a "reasonable" alternative 🙏

It’s not at all plausible, unless they’re incredibly badly trained.

There’s absolutely no need to discharge a loaded weapon to clear it, and had the PP accidentally fired a bullet from their ‘cleared’ weapon into those sand blocks then they’d have been up on a charge for a negligent discharge.

You clear a weapon by removing the magazine (where applicable), working the slide or bolt to eject the round in the breach, then physically checking and eyeing the breach and muzzle to see that they’re clear.

The very last step would be to allow the working parts forward and pulling the trigger (with the weapon pointed safely) to bring the firing pin / hammer home. If you’ve left a live round in place after all that, and the weapon discharges, then you’re a fucking idiot.

Yep, and law-enforcement is taught not to walk in front of a car in the first place. But he did it twice. And the shot that killed her? That was through the passenger window when he was standing at the side of the car. He then turned the car into a potentially lethal weapon by shooting the driver and sending it speeding into a collision.

From what I could see he was in the centre of the front of the car... so jumping wouldn't have worked. It was a huge error to stand there though.

Civil war = National Guard = No mid term elections
Trump is killing people for his own agenda.

I remember Trump being impressed when Zelensky told him they couldn't have elections in Ukraine because they were at war and had been invaded and had invoked martial law.
Trump is encouraging insurrection so he can declare the same and avoid possibly damaging elections in the future. Trump is facing not only losing an election but prison time.
