Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

How is it holding them accountable?

By pointing out this is what they were supporting when they voted for Trump. You’re the one who said that wasn’t a helpful rhetoric. But it’s true.

He was the aggressor??

What do you get out of telling these evil little lies? You aren't winning hearts and minds, people just think you're sick and twisted.

Probably Russian bots. And unfortunately Russian bots on social media have won a lot of hearts and minds and that’s one of the reasons we’re stuck in this situation.

According to alt national park service the NRA have issued a statement.

I just saw that, if they’ve pissed off the NRA, then perhaps there’s a chance of a few craven Republicans shifting their views of which side their bread is buttered on.

I wonder if the other gun lobbies are going to speak out. I think the NRA isn’t necessarily the power they once were, but still…

The irony if this is what it actually takes for some action on gun control.

And just fyi the British don't "always say" anything because like every other nationality we are not a monolith 🙄

This.

I heard someone say (maybe the Mooch on TRIP US) that they’re told to hide their faces because they’re doing things you need to hide your face to do. In other words, they’re actively encouraged to commit crimes. They’re basically criminals. It’s like the mafia have stormed into parts of the US and are killing helpless citizens. I feel for anyone in a state with ICE running rampant. Scary time to be American right now in general.

What about Northern Ireland. The U.K. invasion of Northern Ireland caused huge troubles and conflict in Northern Ireland up until 1998. That's very recent

You do realise that the plantation of Ulster was in the 17th century by a Scottish king? Long before the UK was a thing? I don't see the relevance to this incident to be honest?

Warmlight1 · 25/01/2026 07:38

leaflikebrew · 25/01/2026 05:18

It transpires that the 37 year old man they killed was an ICU nurse Sad

I find it very hard to believe he was carrying a gun.

Hospitals are hazardous places to work especially as ordinary people can carry guns. It wouldn't surprise me one bit that nurses carry guns if the patients do.

HighStreetOtter · 25/01/2026 07:38

How can the US attorney lie so blatantly? The guy didn’t even approach law enforcement. He certainly didn’t approach with a gun (makes it sound like it was being waved about).

If concealed carry is legal then it’s legal. You can’t shoot someone and say ah well he had a legal gun in his holster which he’s allowed to have, he didn’t pull it on anyone but we shot him anyway.

How have intelligent people allowed themselves to become as bad as Trump. Are people really that scared of being sacked that they will turn a blind eye to what’s going on and even worse actually support his rhetoric? God it really is like Hitler in the 1930s.

"Civil war = National Guard = No mid term elections"

Wow. There is a lot of hyperbole on this thread. Americans whether democrats or republican believe in democracy.

Trump and his administration had a clear mandate / "will of the people" etc and probably tell themselves they are shaking up the established order to get things done but that does not make them fascists.

Wow. There is a lot of hyperbole on this thread. Americans whether democrats or republican believe in democracy.

Sorry, let’s tone down that hyperbole shall we:

  • It’s only a few citizens getting shot a little bit dead by their own government.
  • How super cute that five year-old boy looked in his darling bunny hat as they used him for just a teensy bit of bait and took him to stay in their hotel just down the road.

Those Republicans sure love their democracy! Shall we sing The Star Spangled Banner now, or later?

I doubt he carried one at work. I know US nurse uniform policy is lax compared to the U.K. but I’d suspect they might have a rule on carrying a loaded weapon under your scrubs.

however that doesn’t mean that out of work he wouldn’t carry one just because he’s a nurse. I don’t pretend to understand why someone would want a gun unless hunting and you don’t hunt moose or bears with a pistol. I assume he felt he wanted one for potential self defence if he got mugged. 🤷‍♀️

What about Bloody Sunday? That was only in 1972 in Derry, considered to be part of the UK. Innocent protesters were shot because of the culture in the British army to hate the Irish and see them as less. The British government protected the soldiers and denied justice over and over until they could hide behind the defence ‘it was too long ago, the soldiers are too old’ etc. This is exactly what could happen in America, so is very relevant.

2021x · 25/01/2026 07:50

I have got to the point where I percieved that all the reporting from the US clearly has a bias.

I watched the Renee Good video and it was clear to me she acted in a way that could have be reasonably believed- in the circumstances- to cause harm to the officers with her car. 1. She was not protesting peacefully like the other group. 2.She did not exit the vehicle or take her off of the steering wheel when given an order by a law enforcement officer. 3. She tried to leave while the officer was in the car and 4. When she pull foward her front wheels are in-line with the chassis unlike when they are on full lock during her reverse. All of those actions, in that situation could be interpreted as threatening.

All the coverage was either she is a "terrorist" or that she "was clearly just turing to leave" neither of which were true. It was also not fully explained what she was doing there- why she was parked across the road and why her wife was outside the car telling her to drive off... that makes no sense if "she was just dropping her kid off at nursery".

Now this new person is an "ICU Nurse" or "he pulled a gun". The footage is far too confusing to say whether they took it off him before or whether he reached for it. Its hard for me to understand why a "peaceful" protester would have a firearm- but I am not from the US and I percieve the culture is different. It would be intersting to know the result of these conflicts if firearms were outlawed .

In short this is why Trump is winning- not because he is a pathalogical liar, but because he is forcing centralist non-political people to choose extreme responses. He has created an environment that has destabilised the media to the point where they clearly have to "choose a side" to appeal to the audience. Same with Hammas vs Israel, same with TG vs Women.

No, Trump is winning because of people like you willing to excuse murder. You’re not even trying with your misrepresentations.

I don't actually think that all those protesting were innocent unlike this individual in America however they shouldn't have been shot. I also didn't see the point of prosecution of the British soldier if you let the IRA terrorists get away with it.

This is a good example. Rather than asking me why this is what I saw you are jumping straight to an perception that I would excuse murder.

This is exaclty why Trump is winning.

The Right to free speech
The Right to bare arms
The Right of lawful assembly

You have to worry about how many more rights that citizens are prepared to give away to appease MAGA. It will be elections next.

The George Orwell 1984 quote is perfect “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command”. I know it’s been me mentioned a lot, but you do wonder how, with life being constantly recorded, that couid get away with it in modern times, but the comments in The Mail make you realise that they do.

Can I ask... when looking at the Renee Good video do you think if you were the ICE agent you could have thought she was driving towards you with all the behaviour that I described and in the circumstances that she was in.

Well, you presented incorrect and obfuscating details about the deaths of people in which we have extensive examples of video evidence. I’m struggling to think how you come back from that. But, perhaps you’ve had second thoughts.

You know what though, don’t bother. I’m done. Making excuses for people being murdered… and actually suggesting things about those innocent people to sully their characters? Nope.

Fulmine · 25/01/2026 08:01

Livelovebehappy · 24/01/2026 23:12

People should really wait to hear the facts. We all know what happened when people were spouting nonsense in the immediate aftermath of the Renee shooting before the real story immersed. Why can’t people just stay away from the area where ICE are trying to carry out their job, and not interfere with the law enforcement process? The people there today were not protesting peacefully, but being violent and aggressive, which could have harmed the very people they claim they’re trying to protect. 77 million Americans voted for Trump to sort out illegal immigration. He’s carrying out what he was voted in to do.

It's accepted and clear that this man was simply filming ICE. How is that anything other than peaceful protest? Why shouldn't they be filmed? How does that stop them doing their jobs?

How does it justify murder?

Oh, we would absolutely love a full investigation. But… the feds are refusing to let enforcement carry out those investigations. So tricky. At least we have all of that video evidence though.

I don't understand what's going on, are ICE literally patrolling and removing people all over the place? What's happening to the people they remove?

They are disappearing them without access to lawyers. They grabbed a 5 year old 2 days ago.
