Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

What about Northern Ireland. The U.K. invasion of Northern Ireland caused huge troubles and conflict in Northern Ireland up until 1998. That's very recent

I'm slightly inclined to agree with you, because I feel it's important to bear some responsibility for my country's past, because it shapes the way we interact with the rest of the world .

For example, I despise British and American exceptionalism and oftentimes I cringe going abroad with some of my loud and sometimes arrogant very British and proud friends .

On the other hand, I'm very obviously half Jamaican, so I can also be seen as product of my own country's bad past, but that sometimes comes with it's own set of problems.

Yes. DH just said that he needs to find a way to dispense with the midterms.

I say it on a loop to anyone who will listen, but I believe that America has seen its last free and fair presidential election for a long time.

Me too. Be wary America your constitutional rights are being eroded.

You are governed by a narcissist psychopath who is hell bent on a fantasie driven agenda for his legacy (nothing else).

He will find some way to get the next vote against the constitution to happen. And then we are all fucked.

ItstoolateformeDaveyourselves · 25/01/2026 03:39

"seen with our own eyes". I think that covers it.

Let all the trump apologists try to justify this murder. Every American should be deeply ashamed of their country right now.

I’m American and feel that everything going on in government here is a huge embarrassment. We have some very stupid people in this country but there are millions who don’t support this authoritarian nonsense.

As far as the latest news from Minneapolis, as more video has become available it has shown that the man shot and killed by ICE thugs was carrying a permitted firearm and had the weapon removed by an ICE officer seconds before being killed. It looks like he was never holding the gun. Shameful.

I’ve just seen a video of this and it’s appalling. ICE agents seem to think that they can act without any comeback it’s unbelievable. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be in the USA right now especially as someone who is not white and who has put up with stuff like this for years. Really dreadful, hateful stuff.

The first american police force was slave patrols, where armed white men controlled the movement of black 'people' (chattel as they were designated). Slavery (and the Fugitive Slave Clause) was part of the white settler entity's constitution for the first 100 years of its existence. george washington (owner of over 600 slaves) signed the Fugitive Slave Act of 1793

ICE is bad, but it is nothing remotely close to the kind of state sponsored terror the white settler entity inflicted on people.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 25/01/2026 04:48

Look at how the bloody country started. Look who the first settlers were, look how they treated the indigenous population. Look at how they developed their economy and how they treated the black population once they were no longer allowed to enslave them.

Place is a failed state, built on rotten foundations. None of this is out of character, nor a surprise.

hollytheheroic · 25/01/2026 04:57

It seems clear they now think they have carte Blanche to kill anyone they want because they know there will be no consequences. This was obviously going to escalate in this way after the last shooting. And if this is similarly brushed under the carpet then on it will go.

leaflikebrew · 25/01/2026 05:18

It transpires that the 37 year old man they killed was an ICU nurse Sad

I find it very hard to believe he was carrying a gun.

I think he was carrying a legal gun, he had a permit. And he wasn't using it, it was holstered. They took it away before executing him. I have no idea how any republican supporters can use that as a 'reason' this poor man was killed, the irony of it. He was exercising the right to bear arms that they fight tooth and nail to defend.

justasking111 · 25/01/2026 05:48

I wouldn't carry a weapon of any kind to a protest but people are in the UK these days.

Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they’re robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone.

Anne Frank

A chilling quote and scarily close to what we've been seeing.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/01/2026 22:27

OMG - that woman Noem is painting a very different version of what the video plainly shows - AGAIN!!!!

She just lies and lies and their supporters swallow it over and over and over.

I am so sad for my American friends and the many many Americans who never wanted this.

Irren · 25/01/2026 06:34

malinta · 25/01/2026 02:52

That's funny. I thought the British always say to seperate the person from the country's deeds?

When there was a thread here before about all the murders and the atrocities that the British empire committed up until the recent past, every British person on the thread said 'its nothing to do with me, its not my fault that I was born on the same patch of land' etc etc

Not, not every British person, many are able to acknowledge this. I remember that thread and it was not one with no dissenters. Our own horrific colonial past is exactly what should make us so aware of what is happening here.

And yes, we absolutely should be able recognise how many Americans are against this. One should be ashamed of one's country when it does bad things (yes also applies to Britain) lbut we should never forget that no corrupt regime is supported by all its people. We are discussing people who were shot whilst out protesting it, ffs! Millions of Americans voted against this and thousands are out actively protesting it. I don't know if I would be so brave against half-trained goons with guns.

Irren · 25/01/2026 06:35

And just fyi the British don't "always say" anything because like every other nationality we are not a monolith 🙄

It's America. Not illegal for him to carry a gun with permit and not as unlikely as you seem to think. Obviously I don't think that is a good thing.... but carrying a gun doesn't mean he was asking to get shot.

Lych333 · 25/01/2026 06:44

Where is the leadership??? Why aren’t Obama, Clinton, Bush, Biden standing and appearing together and collectively denouncing the autocracy and fascism that’s taking over the country they were presidents of? Where is Hollywood? All these millionaires are just protecting their cowardly arses and leaving it to those with far less to fight for their country. If AOC, the Mayor of NYC and Sanders can get off their backsides and speak why can’t the rich and powerful do the same?

leaflikebrew · 25/01/2026 06:50

@hollytheheroic and @Irren thanks for explanation.

That makes sense.

I have watched video footage and it looks like a pile on when he was trying to help a woman who had been pushed to the ground.

The White House has posted an absolutely batshit crazy post on their social media. Honestly, this guy has the nuclear codes 🤦‍♀️

This is honestly insane.

It's also written by AI / chatgpt (the double dash is the tell they caught the second one and overtyped it but missed the one further up.)

This is also very clearly NOT about "illegal immigrants"

As @CJsGoldfish and @Bloodylovecheese flag this is about something else entirely and part of a much bigger agenda.n

And let’s remember, it is the Republicans who have defended that right to the death, often, in fact, the death of school children. The NRA are not going to be happy about this and the NRA = big dollars to the Republican Party.

He was holding a phone not his gun (which he had the right to carry). Phones are something ICE fear more than guns. He was protecting a protestor to the end. After he was murdered and clearly no threat to anybody more shots were pumped into him for good measure. It’s there for the world to see from many angles. He was murdered and if a US Marine did the same as those ICE agents he’d be court marshalled.

The only hope is the mid terms- which Trump will try to cancel. It’s frankly terrifying.

Simplestars · 25/01/2026 07:03

This is beyond horrific.

thepariscrimefiles · 25/01/2026 07:03

As someone on X has posted:

'They will look you dead in the face and say J6 rioters with guns, poles, bats, etc were patriots, but an ER Nurse with a camera and a registered firearm was a domestic terrorist.'

Chris Murphy, a Democratic Senator has just posted:

'Pam Bondi just sent a letter to Minnesota officials saying ICE will leave if the state turns over its voter database to Trump. Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. It’s a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states.'

Walkden · 25/01/2026 07:14

"It seems clear they now think they have carte Blanche to kill anyone they want because they know there will be no consequences."

There is a new video posted from someone inside the car next to the video. In it someone really shouts "gun" moments later 2 gunshots are heard.

The gun he was legally carrying was a p320 apparently. We know this was taken from him by one of the agents, as this was shown in a separate video.

At what point have I claimed I’m not ashamed of Britains past actions? There are many times in my adult life when I’ve been very ashamed to be British. My Grandparents are Irish, I have a history degree. I’m well aware of our atrocities.

I stand by what I said, all Americans should be deeply ashamed, just like I will be ashamed again to be British when Reform get voted in here and our country goes to shit even more. I’ll never vote for them and you’ll never find me online apologising for the shit they’ll bring down on our heads or defending the idiots who do that can’t see clearly enough what is going to happen because they’re blinded by the hate they’re spewing.

According to alt national park service the NRA have issued a statement.
