In tears in the restaurant bathroom.. TW: Periods

I know this is probably stupid but here goes.

come out this afternoon for a really special celebratory meal with my DH and his family.

I am currently on my period, however when I woke up this morning I woke up in a pool of blood. My underwear, pyjamas, bed linen - all of it was ruined. I’m sorry this is probably TMI. I didn’t have much pain, just surprised me.

Anyway - I am currently in said restaurant and I’m really struggling. My stomach is cramping beyond belief, literally one wave after the other and I can feel ‘gushes’ (I’m sorry Blush)

I excused myself to come to the bathroom and literally cannot get off the toilet. I’ve been in here over half an hour and have text. DH to please explain to his parents I’m not feeling well.

My stomach is literally agony and I feel like I could pass out from the waves of cramps. Literally one after the other and the bleeding has gotten really heavy again.

I am on the implant so whilst I do get ‘periods’ they can sometimes be irregular / I skip them.

I am sorry this is probably TMI but I’m in so much pain I’m just doubled over and can barely move. I don’t know if this is normal or not. 😩

So glad to hear you’re waiting to be seen.
Periods can be truly awful, I don’t know how many times I’ve been caught in a similar situation.

Because heavy periods have always been a norm to me, I never thought to seek help until recently. When I consulted my gp, she said I probably have endometriosis and recommended mirena coil (I had had 2 kids and was feeling “done” by this point). Had it fitted last year and never looked back. Wish I’d had it done earlier.

All the best.

viktoria · 24/01/2026 17:51

All the best for you.
So glad you're in hospital and being looked after

Londonrach1 · 24/01/2026 17:51

Please seek medical attention as you said this isn't what you normally are like. You not spoiling the meal as you are unwell and need support and help. Hugs x

Londonrach1 · 24/01/2026 17:53

Just seen your updates. You did the right thing going to hospital. Hope you feeling better soon x

Thank you all, I hate having to go to hospital and especially hate the thought of wasting anyone’s time, but I am glad I’ve been seen.

Have been hooked up just now to an IV drip for fluid and am resting in a ward until we know the next steps.

You're not wasting anyone times also speak to the hospital or gp about checking your iron levels as its a lot of blood to lose and you might need some iron

Yorkshirelass04 · 24/01/2026 18:01

Hope you feel better soon. I understand feeling like a fraud at A&E with period pain as I had a very similar episode as you. But it's really important you get the root cause sorted.

Kepler22B · 24/01/2026 18:12

i’m so glad you were seen and being looked after.

Hope you have a restful night.

Lovemybunnies · 24/01/2026 18:17

Hi OP I’m so glad to read that you went to A&E and got help. Rest up and get well soon.

PotatoLove · 24/01/2026 18:19

I'm so sorry OP, can your DH pop out to a shop and get you some heavy duty pads etc? I feel for you ❤

PotatoLove · 24/01/2026 18:21

Just read your update OP, very glad you went to A&E.

SevenYellowHammers · 24/01/2026 18:25

Just sending love, prayers and hugs. Let us know how you’re doing when you can x

Jumimo · 24/01/2026 18:31

So glad you went to hospital and are being treated.💐

longtompot · 24/01/2026 18:31

Oh my word @mygodd I was going to emphasise with you and say I've had a similar experience but just reading your updates, mine were nothing like what you've been through (out for the day with my parents, got to destination and flooded. Got to the loos but didn't have any pads on me and no wipes. Had to clean up best I could and use wads of loo roll. Cut short my day out and had to get my dh to come and pick me up)
I am glad you are in hospital and being treated. I hope you will feel much more comfortable very soon 💐

Livpool · 24/01/2026 18:32

Hope you get sorted OP - it’s a cliche but you’re in the best place

usedtobeaylis · 24/01/2026 18:36

Oh this sounds so terrifying for you OP. I'm glad you're in a safe place and being attended to. And how awful that women doubt A&E is the place to go with several pain and bleeding.

Climbingrosexx · 24/01/2026 18:37

I was going to say 111 at the very least but glad you went to A&E. Wishing you well OP

steff13 · 24/01/2026 18:37

jamandcustard · 24/01/2026 12:08

I think you need to go to A&E. This isn't normal OP. You need to get some help.

I bled A LOT last month, and my doctor told me if I had to change my last or tampon every hour, I should go to the ER. So I agree with this. The blood loss can be very serious.

oustedbymymate · 24/01/2026 18:39

Have you had periods like this before??? I don’t want to alarm you but it sounds very very similar to
my early miscarriage

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 24/01/2026 18:41

This sounds like fibroids. Make sure you see the doctor tomorrow latest. If there’s any chance you could be miscarrying see a dr this evening

MissMoneyFairy · 24/01/2026 18:51

Op is in hospital for those who don't read the threads

angela1952 · 24/01/2026 18:55

So sorry to hear about your problems, hope that they sort you out quickly. My DD had a twisted ovarian cyst when she was 14 and it was excruciatingly painful.

Justnamechangedagain · 24/01/2026 19:00

Sounds like polyps. Definitely needs checked out. Polyps are easily resolved. I had similar symptoms. Obviously it can be something more serious so needs checked asap.

Iamnotalemming · 24/01/2026 19:01

Get well soon OPFlowers

RoseInBloome7 · 24/01/2026 19:02

Get well soon OP and hope you’re more comfortable now x

MJOverInvestor · 24/01/2026 19:03

mygodd · 24/01/2026 12:05

@OneNeatCatSorry - no, I’ve never had any period as painful and heavy as this. I do suffer with period cramps but this is next level.

Could you be anaemic? One of the symptoms is very heavy periods (which, of course, makes you more anaemic, so it's a vicious circle).
