In tears in the restaurant bathroom.. TW: Periods

I know this is probably stupid but here goes.

come out this afternoon for a really special celebratory meal with my DH and his family.

I am currently on my period, however when I woke up this morning I woke up in a pool of blood. My underwear, pyjamas, bed linen - all of it was ruined. I’m sorry this is probably TMI. I didn’t have much pain, just surprised me.

Anyway - I am currently in said restaurant and I’m really struggling. My stomach is cramping beyond belief, literally one wave after the other and I can feel ‘gushes’ (I’m sorry Blush)

I excused myself to come to the bathroom and literally cannot get off the toilet. I’ve been in here over half an hour and have text. DH to please explain to his parents I’m not feeling well.

My stomach is literally agony and I feel like I could pass out from the waves of cramps. Literally one after the other and the bleeding has gotten really heavy again.

I am on the implant so whilst I do get ‘periods’ they can sometimes be irregular / I skip them.

I am sorry this is probably TMI but I’m in so much pain I’m just doubled over and can barely move. I don’t know if this is normal or not. 😩

Hi I used to have this stabbing pains whist having what seemed like food poisoning coming out both ends at the same time.
I was checked for endometriosis and was negative and was told that the knife in the belly cramps were contractions and I was also allergic to my own hormones prostaglandin!
The old style feminax(can you still get it) and an iud helped a bit and I’m afraid time. Generally only the first day is completely unbearable and second day super heavy.

I believe feminax is just rebranded ibuprofen. OP has said she can't take it because of stomach surgery.

This sounds like you have endometriosis, please have it checked out .

Whowhatwhere21 · 25/01/2026 13:05

Hope you start feeling better soon OP.
I've got 3 persistent ones on my right side, one has been there for 2 years and is now a bit bigger than a can of pop, plus the other 2 at 5cm each. They can have me in absolute agony at times and I'm on morphine but still feel the pain.
I started having periods similar to yours, not every month though. Thanks to all the scans and bloods I've had for ivf, we discovered the big cyst is sometimes producing high estrogen. Everytime my bloods come back with high estrogen, I can guarantee I'll have a bad period like yours. My clinic have put it down to the estrogen thickening my lining even more than normal

Endo can cause endometriomas which are also referred to as ‘chocolate cysts’ as they are blood filled. I wouldn’t discount endo or PCOS or a combo of both. The only way to diagnose endometriosis is with a diagnostic lapraoscopy and it takes the average women 7yrs for diagnosis as it is so hard to be taken seriously.

Please don't undermine what she's been told by the physicians who are actually treating her. She's in hospital atm. This won't be helpful.

bit harsh, endo can cause cysts that bleed and they get misdiagnosed as simple, fluid filled cysts all the time, especially in A&E and GP’s. I was told i had benign simple cysts, had an episode just like the OP and it turned out the cysts were endometrial and complex linked to severe endo disease. All of this had been missed my previous scans and A&E. Sadly this is not uncommon for women suffering with Endo.

Sounds like you don’t know anything about Endo. It can cause endometrial cysts that bleed and rupture. A lot of women don’t know they are there until this happens in similar fashion to OP. They’re also misdiagnosed on ultrasound all the time as simple or non complex cysts. Even in A&E and by physicians who generally downplay this condition. The OP could well have benign fluid filled cysts, but even on rupture to cause this amount of bleeding is atypical.

It's not harsh. You don't have access to her notes. She's in hospital atm. You're putting doubts into her head about her diagnosis. That's inappropriate. It's perfectly possible for a ruptured ovarian cyst to cause this type of bleeding without it being endo related. Just stop it.

And neither do you, but she asked for advice or this forum. And no, I won’t stop highlighting its worth considering endo if this hasn’t been done. It’s one of the least researched areas of medicine despite millions of women suffering it and who when they present just like the OP, and it gets dismissed or ignored.

She may well not have it, and to consider it doesn’t cast doubt on a diagnosis, a ruptured cyst is still a ruptured cyst endo or not. Biut It may help a repeat of down the line. Glad she is being treated though.

Not since she was admitted to hospital by experts, she hasn't.

Of course it’s worth highlighting the possibility of Endo. I really wish someone had highlighted it to me years ago and my body wouldn’t t be in such a bloody mess now with some major surgery to face later on this year. Endo cannot be confirmed without a laparoscopy so it hasn’t been ruled out here.

I don’t live in the UK - for those that were wondering about my timeline I’m in the Middle East.

I did wonder how you got through A&E and hooked up to IVI so fast! My hospital has been in critical incident since the start of January meaning THERE ARE NO BEDS and not even trolley in the corridor space. Same in lots of other hospitals in the UK. Get well soon OP.

Ask your partner to go to nearest shop and get you strong pain relief and period products and wipes if needed. No need to be embarrassed.

Book an appointment with the GP and ask for a gynae referral as this sounds so painful for you.

Doesn't it get on your pip when people fail to read the updates..drives me nuts

But she's now on a ward, is being treated after being given a diagnosis. By a Doctor.

You were most definitely casting doubt.

Precaution, not doubt. She asked for advice and my previous posts were to go to A&E and to consider an adenomyosis/endo diagnosis as it fits with a chocolate cyst rupture. This was before her update. Endo help boards are full of stories just like this one which is eerily similar to how I presented and was told the same thing as OP. A year later, repeat situation and a long winded route eventually led to a diagnosis and my intent was for the OP to avoid the same.

I don’t want to derail the thread further but saying to consider an endo cyst doesn’t cast doubt on a benign fluid filled cyst Dx. Only a lap procedure can ultimately rule endo out. Cyst treatment will be same regardless but endo is so often overlooked by Drs and it’s something to be aware of.

Are you anywhere near a supermarket or boots? Nip out and buy maxi incontinence pads, they are really absorbent so give confidence and take ibroprofen (double dose). I switched to Lidl brand incontinence pads years ago and never have had a leak

My partner bought incontinence pads from lidl by accident for me instead of period pads one time- I agree, they are great, way more comfortable, and the elasticated inner legs part makes much more sense than wings too.
