In tears in the restaurant bathroom.. TW: Periods

mygodd · 24/01/2026 11:52

I know this is probably stupid but here goes.

come out this afternoon for a really special celebratory meal with my DH and his family.

I am currently on my period, however when I woke up this morning I woke up in a pool of blood. My underwear, pyjamas, bed linen - all of it was ruined. I’m sorry this is probably TMI. I didn’t have much pain, just surprised me.

Anyway - I am currently in said restaurant and I’m really struggling. My stomach is cramping beyond belief, literally one wave after the other and I can feel ‘gushes’ (I’m sorry Blush)

I excused myself to come to the bathroom and literally cannot get off the toilet. I’ve been in here over half an hour and have text. DH to please explain to his parents I’m not feeling well.

My stomach is literally agony and I feel like I could pass out from the waves of cramps. Literally one after the other and the bleeding has gotten really heavy again.

I am on the implant so whilst I do get ‘periods’ they can sometimes be irregular / I skip them.

I am sorry this is probably TMI but I’m in so much pain I’m just doubled over and can barely move. I don’t know if this is normal or not. 😩

Yes it is very very sad @GettingBoredNow she wouldn't be interested or help and having not been interested when her son and GC have needed medical help and ended up in hospital obviously it's the correct call she's a vile woman
Yes it's sad for us all but well done on recognizing that not everyone has a lovely mil

whereisit1 · 25/01/2026 09:10

I'd glad you were taken seriously at the hospital OP. Hope you feel better soon x

EleanorReally · 25/01/2026 09:26

glad you are being looked after now
sounds tough

FcukBreastCancer · 25/01/2026 09:30

I was thinking of you op. Then the dreaded period started for me today and so thought I'd check in and add my well wishes.
Hope the iron helps and they can control the bleeding.

Periods are absolutely shit. I've avoided them for years with contraceptive pills that I've recently had to stop.

I hope you dh can visit and bring some treats today. And that you got a least some sleep.
Take care.

Moltenpink · 25/01/2026 09:32

Hope you’re ok, I had this last year (a ruptured cyst) and I was so glad it happened at home, as like you I couldn’t move or do anything for an hour. Awful awful pain. Get well soon x

Itcantbetrue · 25/01/2026 08:50

There is no way I would share any personal info like this with my in laws !

Why? Its nothing to be ashamed of and every woman has periods including her mil.

Newsenmum · 24/01/2026 12:00

Id be quite concerned op. Any chance you think youre having a miscarriage? This sounds awful. Can someone come in and help? I wouldnt use a tampon.

Edited

Sounds like it. Have heard of IUDs failing.

PluckyChancer · 24/01/2026 17:37

Goodness OP, that sounds horrific!

I’m glad your DH is a good fella and you’ve got a bed on a ward and you’re being looked after. Take it easy and sending you hugs. 🤗

As another poster says, blood and other boldly fluids are easily washed out of fabric so your bedding won’t be ruined. Get your DH to put it all in the bath and soak it in cold water for a bit to get most of the blood out, before washing it in a biological detergent.

Yes. Make sure you only use cold water so you don't cook the blood on. When clean you can always do a hot wash or hang out in sunshine to freshen. Used to do this with chefs jackets.

SweetnsourNZ · 25/01/2026 09:39

So happy you are being seen to OP. Sounds painful.

She has complications with cysts which have caused the bleeding..she was admitted to hospital yesterday.

TheNinny · 25/01/2026 10:32

I was told I had 1 simple cyst and ignored - then had episode like yours. Turns out the cysts were endometriomas/chocolate cysts (symptoms of severe endometriosis) which are commonly misdiagnosed as simple cysts. I had two large ones that ruptured. They don’t go away on their own, they continue to get bigger fuelled by estorgen/hormones and surgery is the best way to treat them.

Push to get an MRI or if you can get one private do so - this will determine the tissue type and what kind of cysts they are. Ultrasound doesn’t distinguish tissue easily and cysts are often mis categorised which will affect outcome and treatment.

Never been out for brunch?

mygodd · 25/01/2026 10:44

I don’t live in the UK - for those that were wondering about my timeline I’m in the Middle East.

Blood will wash out easily if you wash at 30 degrees or less. Hope your health improves soon OP.

FcukBreastCancer · 25/01/2026 11:10

Op. Ive reported a few posts. Don't let them bother you.

Starlin · 25/01/2026 11:25

Am so glad that you're in the hospital OP. Just wanting to share the information that I received from my GP.

If during your period, you're going through more than 1-2 pads an hour /more extreme pain than normal, please get seen and reviewed as a matter of urgency (of course ruling out that this isn't a 'normal' occurrence for you). At my "worst" I couldn't do the school run because the 20min walk there and back meant I would have flooded a maxi pad, underwear and trousers.

ItWasnaMeGuv · 25/01/2026 11:47

Just seen your update, glad its not miscarriage and pleased you are getting treatment. Hope all goes well Flowers.

Therandomtrekker1 · 25/01/2026 12:09

Hi I used to have this stabbing pains whist having what seemed like food poisoning coming out both ends at the same time.
I was checked for endometriosis and was negative and was told that the knife in the belly cramps were contractions and I was also allergic to my own hormones prostaglandin!
The old style feminax(can you still get it) and an iud helped a bit and I’m afraid time. Generally only the first day is completely unbearable and second day super heavy.

zingally · 25/01/2026 12:18

If this is far out of the way of a normal period for you, I'd say it reads like a miscarriage and you need to see a doctor.
I see you saying you're very careful, doubling up on protection etc, but nothing is quite foolproof.

All that being said, bodies can do batshit things sometimes. Bar far the worst period I ever had was the first one I had after my first tangle with Covid. It could have been a coincidence of course, but in almost 30 years of periods, it was the most painful I've ever, ever experienced.

Endometriosis (or Its sister Andenomyosis) very rarely shows on ultrasounds and is very hard to diagnose. IUDs can help a bit but I would consider this diagnosis again if you haven’t had an MRI or even laparoscopy as your periods still don’t sound ‘normal’ in any sense. Waiting lists are long though and it’s often a fruitless process as women’s health gets dismissed so easily.

She’s been to hospital and it’s cyst complications.

mygodd · 25/01/2026 12:40

Thanks everyone for your help and lovely well wishes.
I must say it’s a little bit scary being in hospital over here, it’s very different to what I’m used to back home in the UK.

DH and I moved over here a year and a half ago as his Mum needs a little more care now and his lovely Dad is suffering with early dementia.

Im hoping to be out soon but the nurse has explained there is some concern around the fact I am still bleeding heavily and it hasn’t appeared to stop / stem enough yet.

Still passing big clots. The largest they said this morning was similar to the size of a golf ball, so the nurse said it’s no wonder my stomach cramps are so painful. Blush
