In tears in the restaurant bathroom.. TW: Periods

mygodd · 24/01/2026 11:52

I know this is probably stupid but here goes.

come out this afternoon for a really special celebratory meal with my DH and his family.

I am currently on my period, however when I woke up this morning I woke up in a pool of blood. My underwear, pyjamas, bed linen - all of it was ruined. I’m sorry this is probably TMI. I didn’t have much pain, just surprised me.

Anyway - I am currently in said restaurant and I’m really struggling. My stomach is cramping beyond belief, literally one wave after the other and I can feel ‘gushes’ (I’m sorry Blush)

I excused myself to come to the bathroom and literally cannot get off the toilet. I’ve been in here over half an hour and have text. DH to please explain to his parents I’m not feeling well.

My stomach is literally agony and I feel like I could pass out from the waves of cramps. Literally one after the other and the bleeding has gotten really heavy again.

I am on the implant so whilst I do get ‘periods’ they can sometimes be irregular / I skip them.

I am sorry this is probably TMI but I’m in so much pain I’m just doubled over and can barely move. I don’t know if this is normal or not. 😩

I tbink Îd phone 111 for advice tbh. Or even A and E . You haven’t any aspirin by any chance have you?

pteromum · 24/01/2026 20:59

I actually think this is a great idea to post here.

can’t move. Need help, embarrassing situation, in-laws waiting.

it has been resolved and hopefully OP is ok.

a little female reassurance she needed help was what was needed. 🤷‍♀️

You need to get to A&E, believe me, I know.

She's in hospital!

Sorry should have read the whole thread!! Glad you’re being looked after!

silverwrath · 24/01/2026 21:27

Just read through your replies. You wee scone. What a day you've had. Glad you're now settled on a ward. Hope you have a peaceful night. 🌸

TakeMe2Insanity · 24/01/2026 21:29

Sending sympathies as well. Mine use to be like this and it was horrible I’d flood through everything. I would highly recommend asking your gp for a transcerverical scan and ask for them to check for fibroids. If you do have them ask for them to be removed because it can be life changing.

is this usually your experience of your period?

My question too. It sounds extreme...poor OP.. do you have any painkillers?

suki1964 · 24/01/2026 21:39

I had the worse ever periods on both the implant and the injections - flooding , cramps, constant bleeding - the works

I begged for a hysterectomy - refused as too young and no children, but eventually found a great Gynaecologist who agreed to do one, if I tried the Mirena coil for 6 months first. Saved my sanity , my social and sex life.

Wasnt without its problems BUT they were minor inconveniences compared to the periods I had

RabbitFurCoat · 24/01/2026 21:44

Just wanted to say, pp is correct about ibuprofen - I have to take ibu, para and codeine every period because of scar tissue (two separate surgeries for ectopic pregnancies) and I never, ever take too much ibuprofen. I can tell after a day or so on it that it's aggravated my stomach a bit, it's not something anyone should be doubling up on. It never used to bother my stomach but over the years, it will, trust me.

OP and anyone else who experiences this - a lot of bleeding and pain like this can be due to an ectopic pregnancy, always, always get seen if it happens. A rupture can be really dangerous. I haven't seen anyone mention it yet so wanted to post specifically to highlight it.

Op is in hospital and you wouldn't take aspirin if you're bleeding hesvily

Thanks

Hope you are getting some pain relief now that you are in A&E.

dontforgetme · 24/01/2026 21:57

Hope you’re doing okay op. Thinking of you.

OuchAndAbout · 24/01/2026 22:03

Oh wow you poor thing! I'm glad you've had the problem diagnosed and are in good hands.

If your bleeding is still miserably heavy after a few days, have a look at the menorrhagia support group on facebook. There's some really useful support and tips for coping with very heavy bleeding. I've sat on a loo continually passing clots and liquid, and it's spectacularly not fun. Get the hospital to give you some post partum pads and/or full incontinence knickers before you go home, if they haven't already (in fact definitely ask a nurse for them now if you haven't already!). many of us recommend Tena incontinence knickers - they were the only thing I felt I could wear for more than 30 minutes without bleeding through.

TheNinny · 24/01/2026 22:04

Things like adenomyosis can make periods super heavy and extremely painful. Like you I had a history painful and heavy periods and then one cycle they started getting unreal heavy. Once it passes I’d definitely chase a gyn referral if you haven’t already.

One period i had the worst pain ever, worse than giving birth (to where i thought appendix had burst), went to A&E - long story short 2 week pathway due to raised tumour markers, MRI etc and now gyn surgery pending for huge endo cysts (not cancer thankfully). Don’t let them fob you off, get an ultrasound or a CT and a CA125 (which can lead to an MRI to exclude cancer if raised).

babyproblems · 24/01/2026 22:06

i don’t think this is normal - I’ve never ever had anything close to this except during child birth!!

If it was any other part of your body, you would probably call an ambulance. I would really advise you to seek medical advice asap! Hoping you are ok xox

justasking111 · 24/01/2026 22:10

Glad you're at the hospital. It sounds awful for you. Hopefully they'll be able to sort you out.

Flomingho · 24/01/2026 22:15

I don't want to alarm you, but I experienced something similar which was an early mc , only two days after a positive test. No pain when the significant blood loss occurred but horrific cramping a day later.

SeaShelli · 24/01/2026 22:15

This sounds familiar to a miscarriage that I had, please take care and get checked out

Redpeach · 24/01/2026 22:20

Your first sentence - "i know this probably sound stupid"- is so sad - women are so used to minimising female reproductive health issues

DreamTheMoors · 24/01/2026 22:21

One thing that makes me unreasonably angry is women who apologise over and over and over for situations they have ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER.

You need to stop concerning yourself with who you're with and what they’re doing and CONCENTRATE SOLELY ON YOURSELF!!!

Hasn’t anybody from your party come in to check on you? The bastards if they haven’t. You need immediate medical attention, because what you’re describing is in no way normal.

If you think you can manage to make it to the door to catch someone’s - anyone’s - attention, try that. And ask them please to call for an ambulance.
Then sit as quietly as possible in as comfortably as possible position and wait.
Don’t worry about anything or anybody else - the folks you came with will find out soon enough when you wheel past on the gurney (or whatever it’s called).
Think about yourself.
I’m thinking about you and hoping you’ll be okay real quick and sending my love from faraway ❤️

Oh - I see I’m a day late and a dollar short. I’m thrilled you’re much better, @mygodd— please don’t ever apologise again. Much love ❤️

mumwithallthebooks · 24/01/2026 22:25

Really glad you got to the hospital. I have endo, adeno and PCOS and my periods were like this until I had the coil. I remember how scary it was and how the pain was super intense so please try not to feel too guilty for going to A&E. You've done the right thing and they need to work out what's causing it for you.

DreamTheMoors · 24/01/2026 22:33

Donald Trump does.
Have you seen the back of his hands? One is smeared with makeup & the other has a gigantic bruise showing.
”I want thin blood.”
He’s nutty.

My apologies - Trump takes a massive amount of aspirin daily & was bragging about it a day or two ago. He was the first person I thought of when I saw your comment. ❤️

This sounds horrendously stressful. Sending you lots of hugs xxx

MySaintedAunt · 24/01/2026 12:39

iirc the rule of thumb is if you are soaking through a pad in an hour you need medical attention, esp as this has not happened to you before.
Please get help from your DH/MIL etc and call 111. And don't worry about the meal, you're unwell and it can't be helped.

Agree.
I had one bout of peri menopausal flooding so bad that I was bleeding through a pad in five minutes. I didn’t go to A& E but I should have, I was exhausted for so long afterwards.
Friend with similar went to hospital and they gave her something to stem the bleeding.
