Just read Wes Streeting has got second biggest fall in waiting lists in 15 years and ambulances arriving 15 minutes faster. I think that's an achievement in just over a year in government. Bit sick of all the Labour bashing. Dread to think what NHS would be like under orher parties..Waiting lists 20 years long and ambulances arriving 2 weeks after you call ? A packet if painkillers £20. A trip to the GP £ 100 for ten minutes.

Yes your son is doing very well Mrs Streeting.

PermanentTemporary · 17/01/2026 22:07

Agree, it’s a good step in itself.

You are barking up the wrong tree here .. The MN wing of The Daily Mail / GB news will be along shortly to tell you that Keir Starmer is the Devil, and Streeting is one of his imps.

They can’t ever say “I don’t like X, but I think that Y is good”. It’s the “all or nothing” Political cesspit we are currently in, where people are Angels or Devils, with very little reference to facts

Lamelie · 17/01/2026 22:10

I can’t get my head round Labour’s unpopularity.
I’m impressed and relieved that the NHS is improving. Certainly recent experience- two on the day GP appointments, two short (c 3 hours) from admission to discharge A&E trips and a scan referral within 2 weeks has been excellent. The above is me and DH and mil at least three health boards, not just one person.

Neveranynamesleft · 17/01/2026 22:11

Thanks for letting us know Keir....

bombastix · 17/01/2026 22:12

It is a big drop and well done him.

Lots still to do

TiredofLDN · 17/01/2026 22:13

Yes- I think anyone with half a brain knew it would take time to unpick all the damage caused by austerity, Brexit, Covid and deliberate dismantling/ underfunding of public services by the conservatives.

Sadly the electorate seems to have lost its collective mind, and seems to think that you can reverse literal decades of damage in 12 months.

Anyway I’m glad there’s a quantifiable change - and I hope Labour’s press team do what they should as we head towards the next GE and keep reminding people of the quantifiable, positive work they’re doing.

Thanks for letting us know Keir....

Why can nobody praise them without stupid comments like this?

Good. People are indeed seeing improvemenrs( I and friends have several anecdotes re this ) and the truth needs to get out there instead of the lies peddled by certain individuals in politics and the media.

Shame I still can't get a Doctors appointment.

How can you say that NHS service improving is bad?

Sesma · 17/01/2026 22:42

I think they know when you try to book an appointment if you are a Labour voter.

This is not an AIBU thread.

@thepuzzlewontpiece

I didn't

NoahDia · 17/01/2026 22:44

Credit where it's due

He's done well on this one.

soddingspiderseason · 17/01/2026 22:45

I’ve had excellent treated on the NHS last few weeks, including appointment after 4 days wait today with 2nd consultant. Yes its a 2 week pathway, but I’m frankly astonished at how quickly I’ve been seen.

Sure they are. But like that mad lad in Russia who thought Stalin was in power forty years after he died, sometimes people are just wrong.

LidlAmaretto · 17/01/2026 22:50

They have brought a lot of it on themselves with the numerous u turns. Either they are not thinking through their policies at all before announcing them or they are trying to implement policies but their own backbenchers are determined to undermine them at every turn. Seems like its a bit of both. Either way they are writing the negative headlines themselves, helped by their own party taking it upon themselves to act as the official opposition.

Anononony · 17/01/2026 22:51

After not being able to find an NHS dentist here since we moved 8 years ago we've finally been able to find one! Didn't go on a waiting list - saw a post on local FB group, called and we were all immediately registered. It's a new, seemingly 100% NHS one

HeyThereDelila · 17/01/2026 22:52

Now he needs to stop the puberty blocker trial.

1apenny2apenny · 17/01/2026 22:52

I’m not interested in headlines unless there’s data to back it up. Will celebrate when I can see it’s because of efficiency savings and all the money spent on the NHS working. Not impressed when:

: the list reduces because they change the criteria for getting on a list and therefore remove lots of people having done nothing, eg saying you can now only get a hip replacement if you are under 65 when it was 75 before
: using private healthcare at a cost of £££ , I could do this, it’s not a win or improvement
: claiming the figures have gone down because many have died waiting as the lists are so long
: counting people who left the list due to just paying for themselves

etc etc

We hear about people who receive great care and those that don’t. I’m sorry but I’m not convinced, I bet the figures have been manipulated so much that actually no-one really knows, it’s all headlines with no substance.

Endofyear · 17/01/2026 22:56

I think he's doing a pretty decent job to be honest - there are no quick fixes when our public services have been run into the ground by 14 years of Tory under investment. I saw a clip of Robert Jenrick 🤮 speech where he said 'I think we can all agree, Britain is broken' and I shouted at the tv 'Yes and you're the fuckers who broke it'!!! Honestly, the bloody cheek of him 🤬 sorry, rant over!

JemimaTiggywinkles · 17/01/2026 22:59

@1apenny2apennyif the manipulation is so easy, why didn’t the previous government do it?

Applecup · 17/01/2026 23:06

One swallow doesn’t make a summer. Labour are still in general doing a pretty crap job.
