And not mummy anymore 😔
Didn’t think it would happen this young (7)
Want to be mummy a bit longer!

What age was your child when you started being called mum and how did it happen?

Seems pretty normal to me, I'm afraid. It's about that age when "mummy" feels babyish to kids.

Bowling4soup · 13/01/2026 12:45

My son has been calling me mum since 6. and even worse my just turned 5yo (bday today!) has been calling me a mix of mum & mummy for about 6 months ! Copying off his brother I guess 😭

MikeRafone · 13/01/2026 12:45

mine still call me mummy, they are both over 18 and think it is hilarious

museumum · 13/01/2026 12:46

I have absolutely no idea - I feel like Ds used both interchangeably for years. Probably from 6/7 up to 10. He’s 12 now and I’ve no idea really when he last used mummy. I didn’t notice. I suspect it lasts longer if they gave younger siblings.

shouldofgotamortage · 13/01/2026 12:46

Imagine how I feel, my 14 year old calls me mother.

Poppingby · 13/01/2026 12:46

My oldest is 17 and still calls me mummy! My 15 yr old stopped at about 7 but she still does sometimes when she forgets she's cool.

Grammarninja · 13/01/2026 12:46

18 months! 😢She's very into brevity of communication. Loves a nickname 😏

Barrenfieldoffucks · 13/01/2026 12:47

We are mother and father now, or 'bruh'. I think they have reverted to mother and father because they didn't want to go to mum and dad, but it sounds more jokey than mummy and daddy.

They are teens though.

Youngest calls us mama/mummy and daddy, he's 8. Or bruh. 🙄

CoastOfXmasPast · 13/01/2026 12:47

Mine is 26, still calls me Mamachka, which is Mommy in our native language. British in laws all call my Mamachka, first because they found it funny, it’s now stuck.

SparklyGlitterballs · 13/01/2026 12:48

Probably a similar age or maybe a year or two older, when it became muuuuuummmmmm....

They're young adults now and call me Marge (my name is not Marjorie and I don't think I look like Marge Simpson 🤣)

CoastOfXmasPast · 13/01/2026 12:49

@Barrenfieldoffucks I also get Mother if I am in trouble 😂 it’s like the equivalent of being called by your full name.

Chickadiddy · 13/01/2026 12:49

Mine started calling by my name at about 10 and there was no way back 😭

HoseGoblin · 13/01/2026 12:49

My nephew has been calling my sister "mother" since he turned 5 lmao. Kids are weird.

They grow up too fast.

ReturnToRiding · 13/01/2026 12:50

Give it a couple of years and you’ll be ‘bro’

ForPinkCrab · 13/01/2026 12:51

I get mumsy and mummabear from my 30 year old

gianfrancogorgonzola · 13/01/2026 12:51

Mine call me Mama, I love it!

HarryVanderspeigle · 13/01/2026 12:52

About 5 from one of the kids. The other is still going at 12. I blame Bluey.

Branleuse · 13/01/2026 12:52

Mine call me bruh and fam.

bugalugs45 · 13/01/2026 12:53

My niece asked her parents at a similar age, still slips up occasionally though

Oneleggedone · 13/01/2026 12:53

Mine is 22 and is back calling me Mummy after years of Mum, I love it

Interpink · 13/01/2026 12:54

Bro all the way here. Or worse : “mum mummy mummington mumford mumly mumatron mumapotamos mumalia mumtypumpty” until I answer. They are teens. This stage is almost as annoying as the toddler “Why?” stage they all go through.

Wildbushlady · 13/01/2026 12:54

My parents were still calling each other 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' up until my fathers death. They said they'd just got in the habit when we were little and never stopped. It was quite sweet.

Fancyahobnob · 13/01/2026 12:55

Is it wrong to say I don’t like mum as much and can she keep saying mummy

OP posts:
Interpink · 13/01/2026 12:55

I call them “famalan.” I know fine well that it’s meant to be “famalam” but I do it to be annoying. I also pronounce it “Fam-Alan.”

mwah ha ha

Gowlett · 13/01/2026 12:56

I’ll answer to Mom, Mommy, Mum, Mammy, Mama, Ma etc…
