To wonder if past trauma was a factor in the Renee Nicole Good murder and that, while not absolving agent, it shows ICE should select agents more carefully?

Reading this from the BBC, I wonder if the agent was suffering from previous trauma. They had earlier been in the Iraq War and then had huge number of stitches after being dragged by a car while arresting apparently a 'child sex offender' illicit migrant last March.

Thus I wonder if, because Renee Good clipped them with the car earlier(as The Times indicates), shooting at her car as she drove past was less a rational decision borne from evil and more an instinctive reaction from recent trauma with cars on the job?

This is NOT an excuse. But I wonder if it also shows that ICE are selecting traumatised agents who are too dangerous, due to this, to be in that position?

Oh, I 100% agree. They are only ramping up. My point was only in response to the people that say ‘well they should have made themselves legal.’ And how it is so misunderstood. How hard most of these people have actually been trying to do that. Although I have to say, I think most of the people saying it are either callous and or not intelligent enough to understand it anyway.

I think it’s interesting how vociferously people are trying to shut up people that are speaking out against it. The rhetoric that we see with Renee Good, who was killed for it FFS, is that if she had just behaved and been quiet then it wouldn’t have happened. The fact that we have people there documenting what’s happening and protesting, the vast majority of whom are doing so peacefully, is imperative. People always want to shut up women. It just turns out ICE seem to be able to do, violently, with impunity.

And, as we know, you can’t appease abusive men, whatever you do. Unfortunately, when I look at Maria Corina Machado handing over her Nobel peace prize to a bolster Donald Trump’s ego, there’s no point. That will never be enough for him. The power and violence is the whole point.

I believe that the ICE agent acted wrongly by shooting Renee Good three times.

I respect the courage of police officers, soldiers & other professions that require controlled violence. That doesn't change the fact that studies show higher rates of DV in these professions. The military also has high rates of sexual assault. I think that IS relevant in the context of what I & many others believe was an unreasonably violent response towards a woman disobeying his orders.

Misogyny and homophobia towards lesbians tend to go together, so it wouldn't be surprising if negative attitudes towards lesbians/women in lesbian relationships was a factor, though that is speculation also. Clearly we cannot know much for certain about this at the moment.

I agree they should not be conflated, the prison in El Salvador many were taken to sounds abusive but thus is not an Auschwitz situation.

Moreover, most of these people probably ARE illegal immigrants. That doesn't make ICE beyond criticism, but it does mean most probably should be arrested & deported.

There should definitely have been immigration reform.

I don’t know why the previous poster is thinking that we would want ICE to protect us? That is not in their remit.

They are not there for that at all. As much as there are issues with the police, ICE is something else entirely. Their training is woefully short and background checks are almost nonexistent. There are some verified articles where journalist have applied to ICE themselves to prove this.

and yes, they are literally violent thugs. Come on, you only have to watch a couple of videos to prove that. They are being encouraged to be violent. They have employed Proud Boys, FFS.

Incidentally, if you've read the book The Wave, that was based on a real life US high school experiment which basically did that in the 1960s.

The fact they did not get involved is the reason it’s such a mess. In my home city, cops will alert ICE and they will calmly pick up them up and detain them prior to deportation. Also the usual worksite raids too.

Minnesota’s problem is that activists are out of control. If they would just let ICE do what we’ve voted for them to do, there would be far fewer problems

They aren’t criminals, as illegal immigration is a civil offence. However, the president is a convicted criminal himself so people who voted for him would be fairly inconsistent if they held strong anti-criminal views.
