To wonder if past trauma was a factor in the Renee Nicole Good murder and that, while not absolving agent, it shows ICE should select agents more carefully?

Reading this from the BBC, I wonder if the agent was suffering from previous trauma. They had earlier been in the Iraq War and then had huge number of stitches after being dragged by a car while arresting apparently a 'child sex offender' illicit migrant last March.

Thus I wonder if, because Renee Good clipped them with the car earlier(as The Times indicates), shooting at her car as she drove past was less a rational decision borne from evil and more an instinctive reaction from recent trauma with cars on the job?

This is NOT an excuse. But I wonder if it also shows that ICE are selecting traumatised agents who are too dangerous, due to this, to be in that position?

ICE agent in Minnesota shooting was dragged by car in June

The officer was injured in a separate case that also involved a car pulling away during an investigation.

@deargen Agreed. Let’s look at all the stuff Trump has said that they’ve cheered on. There’s so many but one recent one I can recall off the top of my mind, was “quiet, piggy” said to a female journalist who instantly looked embarrassed and downcast.

@HarrietPierce appalling.

I remember Biden calling someone fat at a debate. Nobody seemed to mind that

It’s amusing that mild profanity and a decisive public stance so offends the sensitive sensibilities of MAGA supporters, while the brutal, bullying tactics of ICE are rationalised as a necessary means to an end. Perhaps the mayor’s frustration was a natural consequence of the inhumane actions his administration has been witnessing? Surely his decisive 'I run this town' rhetoric should appeal to MAGAs drawn to take-charge, no-nonsense patriarchal authority figures.

'Mild profanity'. Honestly the minimising on this thread. The word fuck certainly does not offend me however a 'mayor' telling law enforcement officers to 'get the fuck out' is at best stupid and inflammatory and at worst encouraging violence and disorder. If he doesn't know that he should not be in the role.

I wasn’t aware of this but whatever Biden or any other president has said we know Trump has said far more and far worse. If I could be bothered I could pull up a long list.

ETA: But anyway that’s neither here nor there about Biden because Maga don’t support him either. So not sure of the relevance.

I believe that poster was pointing out the hypocrisy in MAGA supporting a verbally abusive misogynist xenophobic and racist bully who regularly says awful things then clutching pearls at what this mayor has said. Or that’s what I was doing anyway.

You don't think his silly speech might have inflamed an already volatile situation? Imagine if he was trying to do something and his local plods went on telly to tell him to stfu. It's not helpful is it. He should be working with other enforcement forces not showing off.

Maybe he has, you know- 'principles'!

Ice are just thugs This is absolutely disgusting. Listen to this Minneapolis pastor talk about how he was assaulted by ICE!

A man said ice said this then they did that. Riiiight. Is there any footage of this as the activists usually tend to film everything.

'Probably to prevent social media posting"
'That's the most stupid excuse I've heard, and there's some stiff competition on this thread.'

You obviously are oblivious fo all the vultures who do indeed love to take snaps of horrific incidents and post for the clicks? It's all over social media. Of course they aren't going to give access to any Tom Dick or Harry professing to be an expert.
Medics arrived within minutes.

You're reminding me of Lord Percy in Blackadder. "You might be gloaters, we're up to our ears in gloaters here"

If I'm at work and a customer collapses, if someone introduces themself as a nurse then I'm going to take their word for it that they're more qualified in first aid than me. If they then pulled their phone out for a quick selfie, I'd move them on but it's incredibly unlikely that someone would claim to be a HCP when they weren't.

Surely ICE have footage from their bodycams?

Oh that's right. They don't wear them. Handy that.

Why don't ICE wear bodycams ? I mean it's not as if they would ruin the lines of their mixed up uniforms. What with their body armor, bandannas, multiple side arm holsters, tricked out ARs, radios, mag pouches, bundles of zip ties, flares, maglights, night sights, bowie knife holsters, survival kits in a can, pictures of dear leader in a waterproof wallet.....

Surely they could manage to fit a bodycam on too?

Do you not think dragging people out of cars, beating people to a pulp and shooting them in the head might not cause civic unrest.
The fuckwits pulling out pistols at close quarters and pointing them at protesters heads would also piss me off and make me more inclined to get out there.

Civic unrest is what happens when you send a bunch of untrained illiterate goons to terrorise a population.

DdraigGoch · 13/01/2026 14:13

Gloriia · 13/01/2026 07:45

'Flying squad of goons'? You mean immigration and customs enforcers desperately needed in Minnesota?!

'Imagine what it's like for a local Mayor'

Oh the poor mayor. Who gives a shit about that prat. They need to deport criminals not tell people trying to do their job to 'get the fuck out'.

They aren't "desperately needed" at all. This is an intimidation tactic by the federal government - flood the streets of blue cities with masked thugs in order to terrorise the population who didn't vote for the regime. Maybe try and stir up a riot so that the regime can claim that they have grounds for invoking the insurrection act and deploy the National Guard. We've seen this in LA, DC, Chicago and Portland. Come the midterms they'll want every polling station in purple areas surrounded by goons.

The only people inflaming anything are Noem, Vance, Trump et al, spreading lies about the victim.

I think obstructing law enforcement officers causes unrest.

You know these people have a job to do and removing criminals is a good thing, yes?

autodex · 13/01/2026 14:21

She was told to stop by law enforcement offices. An officer was trying to open the door of her car. But she did not stop, but instead she drove her car towards an officer. He can't be expected to trust that she was going to turn at the last minute.

It's tragic for her children but she made a catalogue of poor decisions. She is not entirely without responsibility for what happened.

ICE officers are working in extremely hostile environments. They can't really be expected to trust that those who have come to oppose them, and drive a car towards them, mean they no harm.

LlttledrummergirI · 13/01/2026 14:21

If they were removing criminals then you might have a point.

It seems to be an exercise in how to terrorise a population to force them to come to heel under facist rule.

You are clearly not an historian.

Yeah. They remove convicted criminals from jail and set them free at the border.

It's not victim blaming to state that when armed officers tell you to get out of your car then it's probably a good idea to get out of your car rather than drive off.

However this does not warrant the shooting. This depends on whether the officer can demonstrate to the follow up investigation whether in those circumstances he reasonably thought that either his or his colleagues lives were in danger or not from the vehicle driving off.

At the time of the shooting the car was moving towards him. You can clearly see this in one of the videos. He comes into camera view. The car drives towards him.

He was not in fear of his life as the car was driving off. He was in fear of his life as the car was driving straight towards him.

Frankly, this latest Truth Social post from DJT sounds properly threatening: "FEAR NOT, GREAT PEOPLE OF MINNESOTA, THE DAY OF RECKONING & RETRIBUTION IS COMING!"
What does that mean in practice, I do wonder...

ItWillWash · 13/01/2026 14:42

If the job they were doing was so vital, perhaps they should have spent more time doing it and less time killing American women.

Hmmtheplant · 13/01/2026 14:45

1dayatatime · 12/01/2026 14:34

I don't think any rational person would suggest that persons who are legally living in the US either on a visa, green card or US citizen (naturalised or born) should be deported.

Deportations should only impact those that are in the US illegally. In addition it's unfair on those migrants that have gone through the correct and timely process to enter the US legally to a) see illegal migrants cut the queue and b) to now feel at risk from the immigration raids by ICE.

I think you’ll find the US president is suggesting that citizenship be stripped from certain individuals, so this is incorrect.
