I’m 26 with a 10 year old, but when I was 10 my mother was 50. Feels very strange, I remember being my son’s age and very aware my mother was way older than the other mothers.

I’m 35 with a 10 year old. My mum was 34 when I was 10, so pretty much the same.

OutieModeOn · 31/12/2025 15:52

Me 44, DD10, but I was 41 when DS was 10.

DM was 31 when I, eldest child, was 10, and 33 when DBro was born.

I basically had kids when I was 10 years older than my Mum was when she had hers.

LBOCS2 · 31/12/2025 15:53

I was her elder child and my mum was 47 when I was 10. When my elder was 10, I was 37.

When my mum’s younger child was 10, she was 51. I will 40 when mine turns 10, in a couple of months.

Minnie798 · 31/12/2025 15:53

I was 35 when ds1 was 10, 39 when ds2 was 10.
My mum was 27 when I was 10.

LikeNoYeah · 31/12/2025 15:53

I was 38 with a 10 yr old and so was my mum.

I was the opposite - I was ten years younger than DM when I had each of mine!

I think there are lots of 10 year olds with 50 year old mums, and if anything your son would be aware that his mum is much younger than the other mothers.

Not where I live….most have first babies in their 20s ( NW) ….my DD is now 31 with a 10 year old…..most 50 year olds are grannies where I am ( as was I at 50)

vanillalattes · 31/12/2025 15:55

MyNamedoesntWork · 31/12/2025 15:58

Me 50, my mother 40
Dd is now 26 and all her friends wanted to hang out at her home because it was more relaxed than at theirs

Neversaynever2893 · 31/12/2025 15:59

Me 41. My mum 26. Its funny how you mention being conscious of having an older mother as I was v conscious of having a young one. Much preferred it when my grandmother picked me up from school and the reason I waited.

Sassylovesbooks · 31/12/2025 15:59

I was 45 when my son was 10. My Mum was 39, when I was 10. My Mum was considered 'old' at 29, having a first baby. Mum said many of the women on the maternity unit were on their 3rd or 4th child at 29!!

Fundays12 · 31/12/2025 16:00

I am 45 with a 13, 9 and 6 year old. I was 16 when my mum turned 40. I think older mums are far more normal now than then.

However I do feel when you are an older mum you need to make a conscious effort to be aware of this. I know quite a few mums my age. Most are fit, active and look younger than they are. However one of my 9 year olds friends parents seem very old fashioned despite being the same age as me. They have very old fashioned ideas which definitely impacts on there child negatively.

dontforgetme · 31/12/2025 16:01

I was 31 with a 10 year old and my mom was the same, both our firsts. I’ll be 35 when my youngest is 10.

hancl84 · 31/12/2025 16:03

I am 41 and my mum was 41 when I was 10. But times have changed as I remember thinking my mum was one of the older mums when I was young, but I felt young when I had my first (at 28) and was the youngest of my NCT group.

It’s definitely location dependent. Where I live (major American city), no one has children before 30 (most people wait until after 35) and absolutely no one becomes a grandparent before 60.

Avantiagain · 31/12/2025 16:03

I was 47 with just the 10 year old. My mum was 32 with 5 children.

Crunchymum · 31/12/2025 16:04

I am 45 with a 10yo. My mum was 35 when I was 10, but 45 when my youngest sibling was 10.

GreenMarigold · 31/12/2025 16:04

My mum was 39 when I was 10, and I was 42 when my daughter turned 10
