I know this is a crass generalisation but I actually don't
.

OP posts:

This thread made me laugh as I have loads of friends and nearly all of us seem to like our coffee extra hot.

Errr, let's be rude about people. Nice approach

It’s sarcasm, directed at the OP’s sweeping ageism.

But worse than original

mathanxiety · 29/12/2025 17:59

I'm over 60 (just). Nothing has changed in my hot beverage drinking preference yet, but hopefully I'll have time to get to my DM's level of heat tolerance.

I think DM used to drink scalding hot tea and coffee to keep warm, as an alternative to installing central heating when we were all children.

Why did you write this?

Because it was funny?

Tryagain26 · 29/12/2025 18:01

I am over 60 and I always wait until my coffee had cooled down before I drink it. I never drink it boiling.

Tryagain26 · 29/12/2025 18:03

randomchap · 29/12/2025 09:26

My mum

She likes it about 40% milk from the fridge so she can drink it immediately

But never drinks the last mouthful annoyingly

I never drink the last mouthful either. I have no idea why . It's a habit from childhood.

I’m 70 and I don’t like coffee at any temperature. HTH.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 29/12/2025 18:08

I’m 51 and have my coffee much hotter than dh, 65!

We both drink it black but I always have to wait ages for him to finish in cafes.

sodabreadjam · 29/12/2025 18:19

I am well over 60 and I have always left hot drinks until they are warm - I will drink them down to blood temperature if I forget about them. When they are roasting hot they burn my gullet. DH (older) has always drunk his piping hot - don't know how he does it.

Conversely, I hate hot food that has gone cold.

I don't think age has anything to do with it.

RaraRachael · 29/12/2025 18:19

I always ask for extra hot drinks in Costa etc after being fed up of being served barely lukewarm ones.

Skybluepinky · 29/12/2025 18:29

Lots as they get a bit shaky and don’t want to risk spilling it down themselves.

WhineAndWine1 · 29/12/2025 18:35

I’m 41 and I get my coffees extra hot. Also like my food straight from the oven can’t be doing with Luke warm stuff.

Tell anyone who likes overly hot tea or coffee that it's a shortcut to oesophageal cancer. The risk of it has certainly stopped me drinking it too hot! In fact I tend to drink more coffee than tea because it's not as hot when it comes out of the machine (and unrelated, I don't need sugar in it but I do like sugar in tea so I drink less tea).

Please don't.

Nobody needs a random (or otherwise) person volunteering their opinion upon their tea or coffee. And if you're interrupting somebody having their first, sacred, meditative caffeinated drink of the day, you might as well go and poke at a rattlesnake to tell it off for swallowing its food whole.

pumpkinpaste · 29/12/2025 19:27

Me, can’t abide it hot. Warm is good.

Me too on both counts but I'm not 41!

I think you are seriously missing the irony in @5128gap‘s posts - which have given me a good laugh (along with a few other posters) and turned this thread around for me.

Are you new here? Mumsnet is … robust with opinions. Dont like it, you can trot off to Hunsville.

5foot5 · 30/12/2025 00:48

I am in my 60s and of course coffee has to be hot! If you have left it too long and it is going tepid then you throw it out surely?

OTOH in the summer I like iced coffee occasionally.

This might be an unpopular POV but I think modern coffee shops are a PITA. There is this big menu of caffeinated beverages with all these options and each one takes 2 or 3 minutes to make so there is usually a long queue. And none of it tastes as nice as straightforward filter coffee. If they just had jugs of that always available you could ask for a coffee, they would pour it out, job done.

CoffeeCantata · 30/12/2025 06:57

For me, brown drinks need to be very, very hot.

I care not a jot about what you're supposed to like, or what the 'correct' temperature is. I hate tepid coffee and tea.

I'm a coffee fan and I do know the theory - it shouldn't be brewed too hot etc, and all the different brewing methods. But I'm also old enough to know what I like and I will always ask for 'extra hot' in a cafe, or take it back if it's tepid.

CurlewKate · 30/12/2025 08:18

I also like my white wine practically freezing. How old am I?

RosesAndHellebores · 30/12/2025 08:22

@CoffeeCantata all brown drinks - does that include coca a cola?
