If your partner has a football season ticket…

Would they go on Boxing Day and leave you home alone all day?
Just wondering if I’m being unreasonable because football bores me rigid and I can’t imagine leaving my partner of 6 years alone on Boxing Day.

OP posts:

He wouldn’t but only because the public transport is so rubbish here Boxing Day other wise tbh yes he would . Tbf I don’t really mind either way

I thought it would have to be Middlesbrough as well. Basing that geographically rather than saying its a scary shithole. I haven't been there for a few years but pretty certain it isn't a scary place

And they are currently doing well after a few seasons of not doing so well

Hello @Brefugee thought there might be more of our lot from our other thread over here on this thread 😉

My main confusion is that if he has a season ticket for an English team, he’s driving at least 3hrs each way (ish!) for a normal Saturday home match.

Wouldn’t that be a problem all year round?

I support a team in the middle of Germany. We have fans who travel incredible distances. At least one flies up from Switzerland for home games

NoisyViewer · 26/12/2025 20:39

H & son have a season ticket & I’ve been left many a Boxing Day on my own. I’ve enjoyed that more than having them here as Christmas is such a rush & because everyone breaks up a week before the day I’m ready for a bit of alone time

Well yes, but a season ticket implies regular attendance (or a waste of money getting one). I’d assume he’s travelling that far pretty much once a fortnight.

You’d assume OP would have a problem with that every other weekend too.

The batsignal must have gone out...

NoisyViewer · 26/12/2025 20:44

I don’t get the social class comment.

Scoobydoobydoo19 · 26/12/2025 20:45

I have been to a football match today (I'm female) and if I had a partner, they would absolutely be left at home if they didn't want to come with me!

Tbh I think OP is just feeling miffed and wanted to vent.

She ad her DH need to learn to communicate and plan better.

Two days of the year wanting to spend time together as a couple, makes me needy?

Is this the only time you spend together as a couple? I doubt it & I would guess if it was then you’d have every reason to complain. But with nothing open in a 30 mile radius you’d be doing the same thing you do the majority of the time.

CosyDenimShark · 26/12/2025 20:53

Yes, the only reason I was peeved is I'm not a season ticket holder & couldn't get a ticket to go too. Instead, I enjoyed the peace and put my feet up watching a Disney+ movie they didn't want to watch. Absolute bliss.

Me too 😍

DH and DS have tickets and would definitely go, there wasn’t a match today but they’re going on New Year’s Day. DD and I will go horse riding. You don’t have to stay at home you know!

Daisylove1 · 26/12/2025 21:17

I have two toddlers and husband is a season ticket holder. I don’t care when he goes the match- Boxing Day is a good day to go surely?
One day isn’t a big deal. 99% of the comments here are saying you’re unreasonable- maybe you should listen.

I support a premier league London team.

An old friend emigrated to Oz about 20 years ago and still attends at least 10 home games a year - flying over for a few days then returning home

PollyBell · 26/12/2025 21:24

When my husband did I had no issue him going boxing day, He doesn't need to entertain me i am not a child

If it is about Middlesbrough then clearly she's never been to Middlesbrough! She doesn't know about the Cleveland Hills, she's never visited Captain Cook's monument, she doesn't know about Yarm Village

Brefugee · 26/12/2025 21:29

Are all you footy fans involved in the football chat?

Me neither.

I need to know which team OPs DH supports though . We need to know if he's come home happy!

I wondered about Bradford - promoted last season with record breaking crowds after years of being in League 2, and not in a salubrious area. There would be stuff to do in the city centre though if OP decided to go along.
