If your partner has a football season ticket…

Would they go on Boxing Day and leave you home alone all day?
Just wondering if I’m being unreasonable because football bores me rigid and I can’t imagine leaving my partner of 6 years alone on Boxing Day.

OP, you sound increasingly ridiculous with every post.

If everything "within 30 miles" is shut what would the two of you have actually done together today that would have been so much fun?

SleeplessInWherever · 26/12/2025 18:21

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 26/12/2025 18:16

That was my guess too 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m from there, and it’s my guess as well.

Confused if so, though. What would be the point in having a Blackburn season ticket if you lived in Scotland?

BeeHive909 · 26/12/2025 18:21

There’s only one big game tonight and it’s my team at home and Newcastle. And I can tell you now my town is certainly not a shit hole and I’d be very offended and interested if you are calling it one where you live in Scotland haha.

clary · 26/12/2025 18:23

The city where he goes is an absolute scary shit hole.

Sorry @HomeAloneBoxingDay as others say, where is this?? Glancing at home games today – I mean Middlesbrough is not my favourite place (I used to live nearby) but it’s not scary; Millwall is not lovely but it’s in London and there are plenty of nicer areas nearby; and then I mean, Huddersfield? Bolton? Sheffield? all perfectly fine places where you could have a coffee or a wander round a park on a lovely day like today. Do tell where this "scary shithole" is.

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 26/12/2025 18:05

Agreed! Curious as to where this ‘absolute scary shit hole’ actually is 😂

London? 😂

According to so many posters on here, it's the most frightening city in the country 😂

Cuwins · 26/12/2025 18:24

sweeneytoddsrazor · 26/12/2025 18:19

I thought it would have to be Middlesbrough as well. Basing that geographically rather than saying its a scary shithole. I haven't been there for a few years but pretty certain it isn't a scary place

Went to a wonderful RSPB reserve near Middlesbrough a couple of years ago

HunterHearstHelmsley · 26/12/2025 18:24

Finding OP's snobbery about football and the "scary shithole" town her DH has visited to be hilarious when she claims to live somewhere "deprived" herself! Can't be quite as fancy as she imagines herself to be.

Her DH is having family time away from her, sounds like he has the right idea!

Blump2783 · 26/12/2025 18:24

I wouldn't care personally but everyone places different levels of importance on different things.

Nucleus · 26/12/2025 18:25

TidyCyan · 26/12/2025 18:14

I wondered maybe Middlesbrough as they are top 2 at the moment and it's sort-of close but it's not a scary shit hole or a city.

I am going with Gateshead, on the basis that it has to be within a couple of hours of somewhere rural in Scotland and they appear to have been making progress through some of the lower leagues. I thought Middlesbrough might be a bit far.

You may well be correct!

SleeplessInWherever · 26/12/2025 18:29

My main confusion is that if he has a season ticket for an English team, he’s driving at least 3hrs each way (ish!) for a normal Saturday home match.

Wouldn’t that be a problem all year round?

If you’re right this is very insulting. I thought Manchester but even 6 years ago getting a season ticket for either premiership team playing tonight was difficult, for the visitors it was impossible and still is.
So likely lower leagues. All northern. She’s insulting a massive proportion of the MN readership by saying somewhere that’s probably fine is a shit hole. Not helping her argument but she lost that when she judged our class.

BartholemewTheCat · 26/12/2025 18:31

Perhaps in 2026 you should think about relocating to somewhere more central, and expand your network. You seem to be putting an awful lot into your DP to keep you entertained.

Can you not drive, OP? Would it not have been worth climbing in the car and visiting somewhere befitting your social status?

If it was Gateshead he'll have had a miserable day.

I cannot think of any Munro within a couple of hours of Gateshead .

Your team have always been in the premiership though, so can’t be them. Plus, I suspect we’d be hearing a lot more about how outrageous if was for him to need to stay overnight. Weirdly late kick off for a Boxing Day match.

HomeAloneBoxingDay · 26/12/2025 18:36

Ok it’s unanimous, I’m wrong 🙋‍♀️
It seems my family putting people before sport on Boxing Day is not the norm and I stand corrected.

Why do you need a specific day in the calendar to be told to put your family first?

Or, y'know, some people do both family and sport like your DP who is going to watch sport with his family.

shame encouraging your partner to enjoy his favourite hobby is not your norm.

It seems that today the OP is bored, so it's today she needs support and someone to entertain her

God stop moaping and complaining and acting like your sport free family are some kind of higher beings.
Maybe gran yourself a baileys and stick on a girly film... and don't act like a dick when your husband comes home after his nice day out.

Yes I drive up and down the UK frequently on my own. I have a big network.
But on Boxing day I would have liked to stay home with my partner, go for a hike and get the fire going, cook nice food, listen to music and chill together, rather than on my own.

I’ve just updated to say why, but you don’t need to be so mean.

If you’re from a football family, you wouldn’t understand why it’s not the be all and end all for others.
