To have not lied to DS about trans actor in Last Christmas?

DungOnATwig · 24/12/2025 01:10

Watching above with DD17 (lesbian) and DS11 (straight) earlier today. One scene where a female presenting (long hair + fake eyelashes) but clearly biologically male actor plays a doctor (just Dr). DS says "that......lady sounds like a man".

I said yeah it is a man love. A man who identifies as a sex they are not.

DD paused then typed a wee bit more furiously than usual for 30 secs but then was ok. She knows tbf. She's lesbian and not pan.

It was so distilled down to me at the point of his very innocent (and tentative so as not to offend question) that I am not prepared to lie to my kid about the fucking fundamentals of life and tell them that person is a woman. Fuck that.

Merry Christmas 🍷

Also FUCK THAT FILM 😭😭😭😭😭

I find Mumsnet users to be an intelligent and understanding group until we get to the trans debate. On this subject it's a hotbed of intolerance with its inflexible and hate-filled TERF mentality. I despair.

I also love the film and my first thought was is this character is trans?

But then, my immediate second thought was how beautiful they are. Really really beautiful. A lovely character.

Just made the film even more interesting as it is a story about transplant which should be brought to the fore far far more imho.

Men are just THE BEST at womaning, aren’t they?

AuntyAngela · 24/12/2025 07:21

"ioóii neh".

Sometimes I feel that too. But usually only when my manager emails me to ask me to call her, so she can ask me to call someone to ask them to call her.

slashlover · 24/12/2025 07:28

They identify as a different gender, hence transGENDER and the change away from transexual.

What a ridiculous leap.

The actor did look nice in their scene.

TeaAndTattoos · 24/12/2025 07:38

YANBU I’m sick of people just going along with all this madness and playing along with the delusion. You were right to not lie to him and tell him that he’s a man.

It’s not.
“I wish I could do my make up that well”
“I wish I could walk in heels like that”
“You’re so beautiful”
“You’re more of a woman than I’ll ever be”
“All I noticed was how beautiful you are”

It's amazing how some on here can shoehorn Trans into every thing.

GarlicBreadStan · 24/12/2025 02:22

Because it doesn't matter. Why does it affect you how people identify? It doesn't affect trans people that you don't identify as trans.

It affects women and girls when men pretend they are women.

This sort of attitude always baffles me. There’s a bunch of people whose opinions you like and respect; then you find out they think differently to you on one specific subject. Why is your response “Oh no, they were terrible people all along!” rather than “Hmm, I wonder if there’s more to this topic than I realised?” This lack of curiosity and self-examination is not a good thing…

I've told women their makeup is lovely.
I've told women that I absolutely can't walk in heels and am in awe about how they can do it.
I've told women they look beautiful.
I've told a woman her dress is gorgeous and really suits her.

This is man. Not a woman.

Not only that, he’s a man who “identifies” as a lesbian.

Peak misogyny

"This kind of gushing sycophancy is reserved for men, exclusively."

I was pointing out that it's not. You might not say that to other women but many of us do.

PegDope · 24/12/2025 07:52

How is it anti-trans to point out a biological fact?

Honestly it’s so boring now.

A woman has to be outrageously beautiful for other women to comment.

A man just has to put lipstick on and he’s suddenly so devastatingly beautiful that we can’t plainly see he’s a man anymore.

MummyWillow1 · 24/12/2025 07:57

I’ve watched that film about 3 times and that aspect never even registered.

Fair enough but OP’s son did notice and asked a question.

OP wanted to know if she was reasonable in her answer.

firstofallimadelight · 24/12/2025 07:59

I’d have said it’s a trans woman, which is a man who identifies as a woman. No need for a gender debate while watching a Xmas movie.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 24/12/2025 07:19

Wow.
What a nasty, bitter, Pearl clutching fucking way to turn a compliment from one human being about another human being into something deeply murky.

You must be a joy to be around in person.
Fuck me, this is a cesspit of shite on this Christmas Eve.

TelephoneWires · 24/12/2025 08:01

I think that in the context of this film there is really nothing to criticise about having a trans woman being the doctor. I am ‘gender critical’ and along with many people on Mumsnet believe that people can dress and present as they like but that there are limits such as single sex spaces, medicalisation of children and trans women in women’s sport.

In this particular scenario the person is a cardiologist I think and not making any points about being in women’s spaces or women’s sports or medicalising children. We get accused of wishing that trans people did not exist. This trans person is literally just doing their job in a film. So I really don’t think there should be any objection unless people think that trans people should be shut away and not seen anywhere.

It’s pretty anti-trans to say ‘fuck that film’ for the mere fact of casting a trans actor in a minor role, don’t you think?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 24/12/2025 08:03

PlanetJanette · 24/12/2025 07:11

Glad I’m not the only one who spotted this.

Interested in why the OP and everyone saying she is NBU thinks ‘fuck that film’ for the mere fact of having a trans actor in the cast is appropriate or reasonable?

Regardless of how OP wants to describe that actors sex or gender, why on earth is it anything other than rank bigotry to object to the mere fact of a trans actor having a (minor) role in a movie?

I think she means it made her cry?

This is not related to the trans actor, I'd imagine.

Two separate points

Is it? That's not my experience at all.

Maybe you should socialize with nicer people.
