To be sad that I’ve wasted £17 on a bottle of Bailey’s?

Bought a bottle of the chocolate Bailey’s today thinking it would cleanse my memory of downing a pint of Irish Cream when I was 14 (it was the only thing my parents had and I wanted to get smashed Grin) and throwing up everywhere. It did not. It still tastes like the original with a weird, very mildly chocolate aftertaste. I really wanted to like it as I’m a big fan of sweet liqueurs. Everyone else seems to adore it. I just can’t get past that horrid boozy taste!

Think I’ll give it to DPs instead.

The tesco cheap version is nicer and doesnt have that harsh boozy taste.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 20/12/2025 21:57

You are bu because l bought a litre from Tesco on Clubcard for a tenner .

WingBingo · 20/12/2025 21:58

Add milk to it! Longer and fresher.

XWKD · 20/12/2025 21:59

I find it leaves a weird residue in my mouth. I probably need to wash it down with gin. 🤔

My first thought was £17?! It’s a tenner in Tesco!

I got it with my Amazon groceries (gives me 10% of my purchase as credit on my phone bill) 🥲

Put it in a coffee or hot chocolate. Its much better than drinking it straight

tartyflette · 20/12/2025 22:04

I find it very sweet and cloying and actually not boozy enough, but much improved by a decent slug or three of whisky. Unfortunately this will not solve your problem at all, OP.
Perhaps some ready-made chocolate milk might do the trick?

GrumpyOldWoman2 · 20/12/2025 22:04

Has anyone tried the Hotel Chocolat Chocolate Cream? Was it nice?

Never liked Baileys.🤢
Much preferred Devonshire Cream, much nicer taste.👍

My favourite of all time is Drambuie.😃

You should've bought a mini if you just wanted to try it!

Do you like hot chocolate? I hate cream liqueur but they tend to be quite nice added to a hot chocolate.

Rocknrollstar · 20/12/2025 22:06

Put some tia Maria in a glass and then carefully pour some baileys on top. It’s called a Baby Guinness. But why didn’t you just buy a miniature?

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 20/12/2025 22:06

original Baileys is still lovely but all of the other variants are inferior. The chocolate one is really rubbish.

EarthSight · 20/12/2025 22:09

If you can find anything like Penderyn Distillery's 'Merlyn' online, in terms of recommendations, then I think you'd like that much better than Bailey's.

I don't really like Bailey's. It's cloying and tastes odd, whereas Merlyn was fresh and sweet without being cloying. Honestly it was like a drinkable dessert, it was so good. Shame they discontinued it :( , as it was available in places like Tesco, but maybe there's other cream liqueurs out there like it.

Hankunamatata · 20/12/2025 22:10

Combine with frijj Chocolate milk

Happyjoe · 20/12/2025 22:10

Apparently there is a terrys chocolate orange baileys this year. Now, if I still drunk anything, I'd go for that.

I used to use Baileys hot out the microwave when I had a sore throat from a cold. Better than any cough sweet on the market!

Hankunamatata · 20/12/2025 22:11

Or good glug in coffee with cream

Edited

Only full sizes on Amazon fresh.

I love baileys and I know my son has bought me a bottle for Xmas, which means I can't buy a bottle before Xmas which means I can't have any until Xmas night! So yabu to rub it it! 🤣🤣

Nomoredamnmats · 20/12/2025 22:15

Pour a slug over good vanilla ice cream. Tia Maria is good like this too.

GrumpyOldWoman2 · 20/12/2025 22:15

ooh the hot chocolate suggestion worked! it’s rather lovely.

Baileys is shit since they changed the recipe…try Coole Swan - much nicer.
