To be sad that I’ve wasted £17 on a bottle of Bailey’s?

Bought a bottle of the chocolate Bailey’s today thinking it would cleanse my memory of downing a pint of Irish Cream when I was 14 (it was the only thing my parents had and I wanted to get smashed Grin) and throwing up everywhere. It did not. It still tastes like the original with a weird, very mildly chocolate aftertaste. I really wanted to like it as I’m a big fan of sweet liqueurs. Everyone else seems to adore it. I just can’t get past that horrid boozy taste!

Think I’ll give it to DPs instead.

I wouldn’t blame the Baileys, I still can’t drink Cointreau after a very drunken night on it 35+ years ago that involved, being already drunk and downing 1/2 pint straight Cointreau in a wanny (one go 🤦🏻‍♀️) .

Used to love it but my mind/body obviously still remembers that night!

That’s a daft amount to spend on a bottle of Baileys even if it was the best thing you ever tasted 😂

This brings back the warm Malibu with no mixer incident of 1988. I have tried to forget. 😶

I can’t even think about Malibu after the Christmas 2008 incident. My poor brand new Christmas pyjamas. My poor bathroom. My poor head the next day

@GrumpyOldWoman2 yes, we liked it more than the Baileys Chocolate.

purely for scientific purposes me and the (adult) children have tried many different varieties of Baileys
Tiramisu - 9/10
luxe Chocolate 6/10 - Hotel
Chocolat one is nicer
Chocolate 5/10
Birthday Cake 6/10 - too sweet
Cinnamon bun - 5/10 very strong cinnamon aroma, definitely tastes like an alcoholic cinnamon bun
Eton Mess / Strawberries and cream 6/10 like a strawberry crème from a box of Roses
espresso crème 9/10
toffee popcorn yet to try
terry’s chocolate orange yet to try

plain Baileys is still a strong contender 9/10

Can I recommend you add Amarula to your list to try.

To me it's much nicer than Baileys, as it's not whiskey based. It's made from marula berries.

I bought a bottle today actually. I like making Dom Pedro's (which is a blended milkshake), in coffees and of course over ice.

I had what sounds like a similar teenage experience to you @GrumpyOldWoman2 with a friends parents bottle of carol Ann or something like that. The bottle was split in half with a dark liquor & a cream one. Makes me feel sick just thinking of it!!! 🤢

however, baileys in hot chocolate or coffee is just the ticket 30 years later!!

Gowlett · 22/12/2025 18:01

Ha ha… My exact same first-booze experience!
But, it didn’t put me off Baileys at all, thank God.
I like Coole Swan now, it’s more refined. Lovely!
